    Hope Valley Holiday Cottages

The joyfully- joyfully-named Hope Valley is one of the most loved parts of the Peak District in Derbyshire and refers to the areas centred around the village of Hope. It appears to be a single valley at first glance, but the river bisecting it changes name several times across the area. At the valley’s head, Peakshole Water flows to Hope, then it reaches the River Noe at Edale before entering the River Derwent. At Snaptrip, you’ll find a brilliant collection of Hope Valley holiday cottages from the UK’s leading holiday accommodation companies.

A visit to the Hope Valley should include a walk along one of the Peak District routes, with Winnats Pass, Mam Tor, and the Great Ridge all a short distance away. These are some of the most photographed spots in the whole county, offering breath-taking views at all times of the day, year-round. A variety of historical inns and restaurants offering wholesome home-cooked fare dot the villages and traditional Derbyshire ‘well-dressing’ remains an event here if you fancy seeing something a little different.

At Snaptrip, we’re proud to offer thousands of holiday cottages across the country. Under our best price guarantee, customers can remain assured of unbeatable value and once you visit these remarkable landscapes, we’re sure you’ll want to visit time and time again.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Hayley - Verified booking

Regretfully, I must raise a complaint about our stay.

The condition of the property was satisfactory. I would, however, take issue with the 'patio with furniture'. It was just a small space on the short path to the front door, and no patio as I know it. Still, that was a minor point. The toilet did not flush properly. The flush was too brief to flush everything away. Admittedly, it did flush properly sometimes, still, on those occasions the flush was still not strong enough to flush everything. I raised this with the owners and a gentleman did attend to the problem. He conceded it was an issue and said that he would ask a plumber to look at it - he added that he did not know when the plumber would be available. In the end, the plumber was due to attend the day after we left. The owner provided us with a bucket to flush the toilet. I subsequently raised this as a complaint but was informed that nothing could be done. In summary, we paid good money to stay in a property with a faulty toilet - one which we had to flush ourselves with a bucket. We are a family of four with two children, so this was a very unpleasant issue to deal with. I fully appreciate this was unforeseeable and I have not personal animosity towards the owners, they seemed amiable enough, but this situation was unacceptable and I would like to raise it as a formal complaint. I find if hard to believe that it was not possible to find a plumber to attend at short notice. Needless to say, we will not be using Sykes Cottages again. I would like to escalate this matter and look forward to a response. Mr and Mrs Rooney

Positives related to the property and information that we hope will be helpful people thinking about booking this cottage ; The property is just as advertised.

Large parking area for one car at the side of the property. A second car can park with ease, safely on the road, next to the cottage. The kitchen is very modern, with quality appliances and all the utensils you need. Both bathrooms are very modern, with powerful showers. Both bedrooms are a good size (we took a blow up bed for our son and there was still room to move around the room) One bedroom/bathroom is downstairs which was perfect for 86 year old grandad (no stairs to climb) Both bedrooms had hairdryers There was a strong bike store with lock - real bonus The owners garden is your main outlook and the flower beds are stunning! Amazing base for walking and cycling. There are National Trust properties near by and RHS partner gardens. Chatsworth House is a short drive away. Really small playground at the back of the cottage, great for U10's This cottage was outstandingly clean throughout, plus very tastefully decorated. Overall we would highly recommend this property. The only issue/down side to the property for us was the bedroom windows either had blinds or curtains on the windows. (but not both) The light came through the edges of the blinds/curtains from about 4.45am each morning, waking us up and having a real impact on the quality of our sleep throughout our stay. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Would be better if the listing stated Bessie Lane as opposed to The Hills. The white goods could do with an upgrade (though trivial, it's difficult to turn the temperature dial on the oven if you have issues with your arm as I do, the fridge/freezer opened on the wrong side and one of the shelves is broken [a smaller one would also take up less room]). The provisions provided on arrival was a lovely touch. Shame one of the windows in the living area was frosted glass and didn't open (however I am sure there is a reason for this). Kitchen utensil/crockery etc. is the best we have seen/used in a cottage, and the layout is well thought-out. The cottage was not cluttered with bits and pieces which improved the whole aesthetics of the living areas (the AA book we found in one of the cupboards was particularly useful). The garden area is tiny (though didn't bother us as it was too wet and windy to sit outside), what would be useful though, is a free standing boot brush/scraper. Bradwell is a pretty little village with all the amenities you need and well worth a visit, a good base to visit the High Peaks. Thank Anita for your attentiveness, prior to our stay.

This cottage is charming and cosy, in a fantastic location.

Hope is a bustling village with a good selection of cafes! The pub literally next door is very handy but not too noisy. It has spaced out tables outside for social distancing and staff all wearing visors. The hot water went during our stay but the owners got it fixed very quickly so it was no problem. We had a lovely stay but would recommend a bigger outdoor bin, as a family of 4 self catering a lot we had a lot of nappies and rubbish every day! Also bring some toilet rolls with you as 2 not enough for a week. The garden is safe and secure, ideal for kids and the view of the peaks is lovely and peaceful. We enjoyed hearing the cows on the field next door, luckily we were already up at 5am with the baby as they’re pretty loud!! If you have a baby, bring your own cot and high chair. There’s loads to do for families close by, in addition to all the hiking, including Hathersage outdoor pool (prebook), Thorpe farm (Hope valley ice cream where you can see cows being milked by a machine) and in Matlock the Heights of Abraham and Gullivers kingdom are super fun. Don’t forget your masks!

We enjoyed our short stay at the converted barn, the only issues we thought needed comment are about the toilet/bathroom.

I am not a fan of rainfall shower head especially when you have swing the shower door open fully and it then sprays out on the floor. The control has to go through the cold setting to get to the hot while you are standing in the rather cramped bath space. The main issue is safety, there are no grab handles to help you in or out and no anti slip surface for the bath. You may find it difficult to get to the barn if you are unaware that what appears to be a small path is actually the access road, we found a very helpful local that showed us where the property is located. Finally the gate catch keeps dropping out of it bracket and then the gate swings out across the road!
