The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!

It was also lovely and warm, starter pack of logs, matches and firelighters, great to be able to light the woodburner straight away as it was very cold weather. The cottage sits between 2 roads but luckily the traffic is very light/ nothing overnight. You can hear the traffic closing the wooden shutters at night helps reduce noise. Unfortunately the boiler makes rather a lot of noise which you hear overnight in the little bedroom ( we turned the thermostat right down so the heating wasn't on but boiler still noisy) Cottage in great location for walking, only short drive to Edale and Mam Tor great days out walking. If your a swimmer like me the highlight is the Lido in Hathersage, kept at 23 degrees during the winter, evening swim in the dark with pretty lights around the pool is magical

Take plenty of logs for the wood burner (you do get a starter kit

So much so that I rebooked after being there a couple of hours, the description is bang on, and the views and solitude are incredible I canât wait to get back there again.
