Take a trip to the Farne Islands and see the nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is 2 miles north, with its wide golden sandy beach where the tidal island of Lindisfarne can be viewed. Steeped in history, Waren Mill is a further 2 miles up the coast. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. The bird sanctuary at Budle Bay has a vast expanse of mud flats at low tide, which is home to thousands of sea and land birds, perfect for keen birdwatchers. The market town of Alnwick, with its castle and many facilities, is a few miles inland. Alnwick Garden, with its Grand Cascade waterfall and restaurant within the largest treehouse in Europe, is within easy reach and a popular attraction.
