"Haave been here 4 times, comfortable, clean, good location for walking to Windermere or Bowness."

"Very smart, comfortable and well equipped cottage made for a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas break."

"Wonderful! our 2nd visit to Yew Trees and didn't disappoint, this cottage has everything we need, good heating system, two bathrooms, good kitchen with all the facilities, large lounge with open fire (we took two bags of coal & logs this time) small garden but no problem? our young Labrador loved the open field next door, Windermere to the right and Bowness to the left can't go wrong! We often walked from the cottage door up Lickbarrow road for 15 minutes, through right hand style and on to Post Knott then into Bowness .. quick swim in the lake (Holly) slow lunch in the pub us!"

"We have been visiting Yew Trees for 6 years and have always enjoyed our stay.We re-visit our favourite places, and discover new places each time. However, health issues are catching up, and we may have to discover new accommodation. The steps at the front proved a bit daunting this time, as did a lack of a grab-rail in the shower. But, we accept that that's our problem, not yours. One thing that could be improved is the key safe - could I suggest taking the utility door key off the keyring, or fitting a larger key safe - I had to resort to pushing the keys through the letterbox - struggled till I couldn't feel my fingers!Otherwise, a good time was had by all.Lovely accommodation, and very well presented. Thankyou"

"The owners need to pay attention to the cleanliness. Radiators had not been cleaned properly and the blinds were dirty, particularly at the bottom, with the bathroom blind having several dead flies stuck to it. (The dead flies were there last year so nothing has been done about that in over 12 months). The front door lock can be difficult to open. In the house book there is no number to ring in an emergency. It was difficult to get the washer to work properly - the "rapid" programme did not stop, so the machine had to be switched off manually. One of the bulbs in the kitchen needs replacing. These are all matters that could easily be resolved, but maybe the owners aren't bothered having passed the cleaning to a cleaning company who are not doing a very good job. Otherwise the bungalow is well equipped, so if the problems are dealt with and the cleaning is done properly this would be one of the better properties."

"This is a very good property due to its location being in a private area midway between Windermere and Bowness making it easy to walk to either. The property is spacious with just the right amount of equipment and not a lot of clutter. However the property could be excellent with a few tweaks. The outside of the property has recently been painted and some of the paving re-grouted but there are still some lose pavers and the picnic bench needs refurbishment as it detracts from the exterior of the property. I found that rain water was spilling out over the gutter at the front door and this was due to debris at the bottom of the drain spout which was being held in place by the drain cover. Would suggest that the drain spout should be cut back 1/2 to 1 inch to allow the debris to wash out. Some shrubs at the rear are too close to the property causing the guttering to block and overflow and the subsequent waterfall being heard from the bedrooms which is unfortunate at night. The hallway is spacious with chairs and a table but could benefit from coat hooks on the wall to the right of the door instead of having to drape them over chairs. The bedrooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage space and loads of coat hangers. However the bedrooms are let down by poor curtains and curtain rails with end stops missing which means if you pull the curtains open too far they come off the track. The bathroom and on suite are excellent but both could benefit from having spare toilet roll holders to prevent space loo roll sitting on top of the toilet and possibly falling into the toilet. The fabric blind and light shade in the on suite have both become covered in mould. As there is an opaque window they could just remove the blind. The kitchen could do with a few hooks to put a towel and tea towel on."

"This was our 3rd stay at this property and we had one issue which we raised with Cumbrian Cottages and whilst the owners were quick to try and sort out our problem our efforts to sort the matter with Cumbrian Cottages was not good .To resolve the issue involved one failed attempt to report it to their Windermere office and then another 6 hours later . A failed attempt to report it via their web site -could not do so due to 'technical problems' -one attempt via their chat line -could not deal with it as it was Customer care Then 6 telephone calls and one e mail to finally resolve the issue speaking to 4 different people .Conclusion by all means stay at Yew Trees but don't book via Cumbrian Cottages"

"We had a great holiday - and the points below are just for your information!!!However the photos of the property on the website do not do justice - a few new ones should be taken. There was a table/bench in the front which needed a good coat of paint. The heating thermostat was out of action and needed replacing. There is a dryer which was not mentioned in the description of facilities.A single armchair in the living room would have been appreciated rather than all doubles."

"Probably the best cottage we have stayed in, warm, spacious, great location, our young Labrador (Holly) particularly enjoyed the open field at the rear of the cottage, with great views of the lake from the top and a nice easy country walk into Bowness, a couple of friends joined us for the weekend so the two bathrooms were a great plus. the lounge, kitchen and bedrooms are very spacious and we had everything we needed, parking is easy, hope to book Yew Trees again at least once this year. Eric."

"Yew Trees is in an excellent location allowing you to walk into Winderemere and Bowness or enjoy country walks from the door. The property has a great layout with very comfortable settees and comfortable beds and an excellent on-suite shower room although I cannot say the same about the over bath shower. Thank you for the bottle of fizz which was so good I went and bought another bottle. During our stay there was a short power cut in the evening and when we went to look for the torch we found it was missing. Also found that the knives in the kitchen were so bad that they were almost dangerous to us when attempting to cut an onion. I noted in the visitors book that someone had mentioned this back in April. The equipment and layout of the kitchen was excellent but extractor fan could do with cleaning/replacing. I found that the front on the top left drawer on the chest of drawers in the twin room pulled off because it hadn't been glued on. I also noted that the light when entering the basement/Garage area was very poor at illuminating the room an as this is down a couple of steps I would suggest that it is replaced with a different bulb. On entering the property at the front door we noted that there were no coat hooks in the hallway but there were some useful seats available to sit and pull footwear on. This is a good property in an excellent location which could be made great with a few tweaks such as loosing the piano and replacing it with a bookcase or other useful piece of furniture. I would also consider turning the bathroom into another shower room but I realise some visitors particularly those the children may want a bath. The exterior of the property and grounds could do with some TLC which would also make it more attractive and safe to use. It may also encourage visitors to use the rear door into the basement/garage to bring in muddy/wet equipment where I noted there were door hooks and drying racks. On another note I would recommend the Prince of India in Winderemere if you are looking a takeaway."

"We enjoyed our holiday very much, and have stayed at Yew Trees a few times. Some of the kitchen equipment is getting a little tired - the knives could do with updating I felt that I was cutting up veg's with a meat clever! It was the only one that could cope with carrots.I also felt that it wasn't quite as sparkling as usual. We also had a problem with the shaving mirror in the bathroom - the light wasn't working and was out of use all week - don't know if the problem had been reported sooner."

"Comfortable, spacious relaxing bungalow. Parking space difficult to get in and out of, and garden in need of some attention, but overall a place we would consider staying at again"
    David ‐ 24 Oct 2018
"Good choice for those who have no car and can walk well. Supermarket and station only 15 minutes walk, lakeside and town takes a little longer but worth it. Plenty to explore in Windermere and Bowness area. Onsite parking is poor and difficult in the dark. Bed is very uncomfortable. Many issues with little, annoying, things, well recorded in the visitors book and ignored by the owners. Not awful by any means, but not on our list of properties for a second visit."
