"Upon arrival the bedroom smelt of damp and this did not go away for the 3 days we were there. The damp problem was with the window and the wall was cold and damp. We had no idea which of the two adjoining properties the owners lived at and did not see the owner and only briefly spoke to the husband. The bath was not fixed properly and was coming away from the wall at the taps end. The bath panel was cracked. There were also a lot of cobwebs in the property. There was no room in the kitchen to store grocery cupboard essentials but there were masses of casserole dishes etc. which is not what we would expect in a holiday cottage as you are there for a holiday and not to go cooking. The cottage information folder could do with some updating too. The hedge at the front of the property could have been lowered in order to afford a view of the open fields. On the plus side, the cottage is ideally situated for touring Hadrian's Wall, Newcastle, Northumberland and the northern Pennines."

"Wonderful location with scenic walks in every direction from the cottage’s door, view to the lighthouse, surrounding fields and golf course, and lots of entertainment from the friendly ponies; perfect for dog walking too. The cottage has all that’s needed for a cosy holiday, comfy beds, wet room shower, underfloor heating in the bathroom, log burner in the lounge, night storage heaters in all the rooms, clean and tidy throughout. The kitchen, especially the fridge-freezer, is small for a family, but with supermarkets close by, that’s no real problem. The owners are on hand next door and very welcoming and friendly. Ample parking within an enclosed charming small garden, with two seating areas for those sunny days. Bird watchers should take binoculars, as owls, hawks and others all around. Be warned, the fields can be muddy, so pack some boots and spare towels too. We enjoyed our stay very much and may well return soon."

"Great location for exploring the local area. Nice cottage with great views though it looks like they may be building at the front so the view may not be so great in the future. The house was nice inside. Nice bathrooms and bedrooms with good quality fittings and furnishings. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped - nice cooker etc. - though it could do with more crockery, cutlery and utensils. A family of four would struggle if all you have is four or six of certain things. A few things need attention. A number of light bulbs gone, things like towel hooks and bathroom cabinets not fixed to wall very securely. Decor also very bland with magnolia cream and beige everywhere. A bit more imagination would be nice. These are all minor issues, however. Overall a very comfortable stay with nice quality beds and sofa and bathrooms. Local pub excellent. Already recommended to friends!"

"We - that's my wife and I and our Cocker Spaniel - rate The Cottage very highly. It's warm and comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. My wife says if she's being super-critical then perhaps the kitchen could do with a grill and an extra cupboard to store food - but that really is being super-critical. Where The Cottage scores highest is for its location. With farmland on three sides it is remarkably quiet (usually the only sounds you can hear are the birds: listening to the owls at dusk was a special pleasure), yet it is just ten minutes from the Metro, ten minutes from the A1, and ten minutes from the A69. If you could choose a base that allows you easy access to both the city of Newcastle and the glories of Northumberland, it would be very difficult to find a better location. We loved it. "

"My girlfriend and I had a lovely week in The Cottage which was well equipped, clean and cosy. Due to it's ideal location, we were never far away from great places such as Gibside, Housestead's Roman Fort and Newcastle (would recommend Life Science Museum). When we arrived, we instantly felt comfortable and at home. All appliances were very easy to use - we did have a small difficulty in operating the shower, however all appliance manuals are provided and easy to understand. It was nice to meet Paul, who made us feel welcome and suggested several places to visit in the area. While Paul has an office extended from the cottage, he only worked when we were out, so we never felt intruded. Overall, we would definitely stay again and would recommend it to others. P.S. We loved the cake that Hannah baked for us :)"
