    Thirsk Holiday Cottages

Thirsk is a traditional English market town in the centre of North Yorkshire's farmland. The town was made famous by James Herriot, the veterinarian and author whose stories were set here. Today, Thirsk is home to the World of James Herriot Museum. You'll find one of the oldest racecourses in England, and the market square is still bustling on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Whether you're looking for a romantic break or a family trip, holiday cottages in Thirsk have something to suit everyone. There are idyllic country cottages with log fires and large gardens, perfect for winter getaways, as well as airy apartments with balconies and views of the market square.

Book your Thirsk getaway with confidence at Snaptrip. With thousands of properties across the UK available to choose from, we've got cottages for every taste and budget. Simply use our handy search filters to find a property that matches your criteria - from private hot tubs to dog-friendly cottages, we've got it all. If you need a little help deciding, our friendly customer service team are on hand to offer advice and assistance.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jeremy - Verified booking

A lovely cottage and very comfortable indeed.

Enjoyed staying there. However, there are a few things which made us mark down the property unfortunately and they are as follows : 1. No milk provided on arrival - I know this is not a given, but it is always a very welcome gesture, especially when you have had a long journey (which we did) and a cup of tea is what you desire !! 2. Cutlery - a good proportion of the cutlery had to be hand washed before using due to being very unclean/dirty. Perhaps they had been placed in an over-full dishwasher the night before and put away without being checked. Not the best thing to find, especially after the pandemic ! 3. Fridge Door - We were disappointed to find that the fridge was rather small, but also it was lacking a shelf at the bottom of the door in order to stand milk in. We therefore had to buy lots of one pint cartons instead, which obviously took up a lot of room and is more expensive ! We did note in the Visitors Book that other people had commented on this also. 4. Bin - The bin supplied in the kitchen was lovely and big, however, the foot pedal was visibly broken and could not be used. Therefore each time you had to lift up the lid with your hand. Again, not ideal for hygiene and cleanliness. A replacement bin could have been easily sourced by the owners. Overall, a lovely cottage in a super location, however, the above points did spoil it somewhat, especially bearing in mind the cost of renting the cottage for the week !! Your comments in return would be welcomed. Many thanks Jeremy Wallis and Lindsay Barker

Thank you for a lovely week long stay in your beautiful little Jasmine Cottage.

It is everything one would expect and enjoy in such an old place. The entrance lobby opens up onto the dining room with old and shabby chic furnishings. The kitchen has plenty of work surface and enough room for 2 people to move around easily. The lounge is surprisingly large with deep comfortable sofas. From the lounge there is access to a small patio and garden with a modest set of table and chairs. The 3 bedrooms are quite spacious. The bathroom has a bath with shower over it rather than a walk in shower. Lisa our host was friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. During our stay in the warm summer of 2018 the cottage stayed nice and warm throughout the night. It has been a pleasure to be able to use your cottage as a base to explore the Dales and the Moors, the market towns and picturesque villages, the nearby castles and Manor houses, to revisit childhood memories and to create new ones. We had quite forgotten just how much we love the area. Personally, we found the main bedroom mattress to be too hard for us, and the lack of WiFi n the cottage was a nuisance, but the local pub, a 5 minute stroll away, did prove to have not only a lively local village atmosphere with good value drinks and a sociable crowd but also a good WiFi reception.

      Little Gem !

What a find. No one could not enjoy their stay here. The property is of a high standard throughout, very clean and a great deal of care has been taken in its presentation. One of the best we have stayed in over 30 years. The description of the property under sells it and a number of key aspects are missing from the listing. There is a washing machine, large modern Smart TV, bath in one of the bathrooms, (we nearly did not book as grandad likes a bath) hairdryer in each bedroom, both bedrooms just have room for a blow up bed for a child to sleep, we took our own. Lots of room for a travel cot in both bedrooms. There is a hose in the garden to clean down the bikes, whilst Sutton Bank is only a few miles away (mountain bike heaven) Although in a rural location the WiFi was excellent all week. Well kept garden and small patio outside the kitchen door which we assume would be is lovely to sit in during the summer months. The national birds or prey centre and Thirsk birds of prey are both short drives away. Both are excellent. The owner was very quick to reply to our text and was very helpful. We would highly recommend this property. Kevin, Debbie, Thomas and Grandad.

We had a lovely weekend at Jasmine Cottage.

The weather was glorious and Lisa the property owner was very welcoming and allowed us to arrive a few hours early as there had been no one in the day before. The cottage was very comfortable, especially the beds. It is in a lovely area and there are lots of places to visit within a short distance. We spent a very enjoyable day walking at Sutton Bank with easy going paths which were good even with a baby and pushchair. We also spent a lovely day at Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley. We were however disappointed to find that the very pretty lawned garden shown on the website is sadly now all paving and gravel with very little greenery. The garden was one of the things that attracted me to the cottage as we love to sit outside and it would have been perfect for my 11 month old grandson to explore. It was not really safe to put him down to crawl on gravel or paving. Also the large walk in shower was perfect for the adults in the party but not for a baby and the website does state that there is a bath with shower over. I really think that details and photographs should be kept up to date so that customers are not disappointed or misled.

Jasmine Cottage was the perfect place for a very special holiday, we loved it.

It is impossible to tell how quiet it's going to be when looking for a holiday cottage but this is a truly quiet and peaceful spot (as someone mentioned on a previous review). When we weren't out and about (it's very well situated for getting to lots of lovely places), we made the most of sitting out in the lovely garden. The weather during the week was gorgeous, with the patio area and pebbles we were able to move the table and chairs around the garden to suit the sun/shade which was great! Lisa is lovely and was very helpful filling us in on the local area. She rang and booked a table for us at The Angel - Topcliffe, we ended up eating there three times, plus a takeaway - very friendly staff and delicious menu! We will definitely be going there for another holiday, we love the cottage and it is in a very beautiful part of Yorkshire.
