What our customers say about their holidays

    • Duncan - Verified booking

The high location of the cottage above the waters of the Menai Strait is certainly a premier feature.

Considering all we are going through at the moment, the cottage was extremely clean and smelt fresh. The result, I would guess, of a lot of extra hard work on behalf of whoever cleaned the place. Internally the cottage is open plan and there is a lot of space. We liked the non-slip floor in the large shower - that was excellent. The kitchen had plenty of room to self-cater. The gas rings on the stove took a little getting used to, but the dual electric ovens were excellent. Bedrooms were super and were very clean. Door lock on the outside door was a bit dodgy and needed a good hard pulling to before the catch would engage. The extension was a very useful feature for storing jackets and rucsacs etc. There is plenty of room for two or three cars. Angelsey is the largest island in England and Wales at 276 sq.miles, so you do a lot of driving to get to places and there are a lot of places that are well worth visiting. Beaumaris is the honeyspot of the island, but despite that it is well worth visiting. Asda at Llangefni has the cheapest petrol at 110.7p for unleaded when we were there (Sept/Oct 2020), but we saw 119.9p. Do your research well before you visit for places on the island to visit. The walk via Menai's back streets along the water front, under Telford's Bridge (amazing) to Church Island is fabulous. Finish uphill at Waitrose. The weather was reasonably kind to us, so we were able to do a lot of walking and exploring. We stayed in Menai Bridge, where the cottage is located and the newspaper shop next to The Bulkeley Arms and the three coffee shops/cafes in the centre were all great with really friendly folk attending to customers. Angelsey is most certainly a great holiday destination.

Had a wonderful week at Swn Y Wylan enjoying magnificent views over the Menai Straits.

The cottage is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and has great facilities throughout. The kitchen and utility room has everything you need. The outdoor seating areas are great for enjoying the views (we were lucky with the sunshine) and private parking is easy. Great to have a wood burner for the evenings. Also good to have choice of TV options with smart TV. Lots of nice touches set it above the rest like ready made fire, starter pack, welcome card, wine, fudge, bottled water & milk in the fridge, Newspapers and TV Guide, the nice room sprays, relaxing spa shower wash, fairy lights in the entrance way, outdoor solar lights round the terrace. Mum loved the Welsh cakes! I didn't get chance to taste so will take her word for it! The radio was on when we first entered the cottage and was classic FM though it was a piano concerto and we actually thought someone was greeting us with a piano :) Ellen and Gordon were so helpful and friendly. The cottage is close enough to walk into town to the nice restaurants and there are several nice walks and places to see around Menai Bridge from Cadnant Gardens to the Belgian Promenade. But on Anglesey you are never far from anywhere. Menai Bridge is a good base for exploring.

I would not stay here again due to poor property maintenance, poor housekeeping and the property listing was not accurate (Sykes disputed this until I supplied a screenshot of the web listing).

There is a shower, but no bath. Electric cooker and fire and not gas. Property information found inside the house was incorrect as well - no access to cushions to site outside - which was disappointing as the weather was lovely. The kitchen is of a very poor standard. Dining table in the kitchen cannot comfortably sit more than four people whilst preparing and serving meals. Internal windows were filthy with handprints all over them. Laminate flooring in hallway is lifting and a trip hazard. Behind the bed had not been cleaned which was obvious as the bed was not against the wall on arrival - there was paper and dust behind it. Mattress stained brown on the side and no attempt to clean or cover it with a bed base cover. The internal doors including the wardrobe was stained with yellow marks. External door to the front of the house dirty and blackened. Grey towels provided were bleach stained. Outside door where the keysafe is located has a rusty lock which was difficult to open and close due to the rust. I would not book with Sykes or stay at this property again.

      Beautiful property with breathtaking views.

The hosts have thoughtfully equipped the cottage with everything you could want for a perfect break. The welcome pack was very well received. The property was immaculately clean and comfortable. Lots of places to sit and appreciate the scenery. We loved the perfectly curated decor and appreciated the effort made to present it so beautifully. The cottage is perfectly located for day trips and activities. Having visited Anglesey since my childhood (but always the far side of the island) we finally got to walk under and over the Menai bridge. Menai village itself is buzzing with nice bars, cafes and restaurants. I’m now sold on staying in Menai as it is so convenient for exploring both the island and the mainland. We feel very fortunate that we had the opportunity to stay in this cottage and want to thank Elen and Gordon for sharing this beautiful place with us. My only regret is that we only booked one week and not two. We very much hope to return, hopefully sooner rather than later, to this very special residence.

We had a fantastic week staying in Ty Mon.

The house contained everything we needed, was modern and comfortable, and was cleaned to a high standard. We also appreciated the generous welcome pack, thank you! The surrounding area is beautiful and there was no shortage of things to do. Nice Park at the end of the road for the kids, behind which is a pub with a pool table. Pretty outdated place and not much choice at the bar, however, the staff and locals were so friendly and welcoming, we stayed for most of the night. All round great holiday and we would happily return. Only thing to note is that if your pooch is an escape artist the garden isn't 100% secure (low fences and a few gaps) so you'll have to keep an eye on it. Ours was happy enough not to wander off though and enjoyed his stay as much as we did. Highly recommended!
