What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sarah - Verified booking

Thankyou for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage.

It was perfect for our needs. The grandparents had downstairs with their own bedroom, bathroom and sitting room and my husband and I and our adult children had the upstairs bedrooms. The main lounge and kitchen diner were perfect for all of us. There was plenty of kitchen equipment and it was fantastic to have three bathrooms. The garden is lovely but unfortunately the weather was very wet for us so we didn’t get to enjoy the lovely outdoor seating and bbq. The Aga top made cooking for 6 difficult at times because you could only use two pans at a time and with my daughter being vegetarian and the rest of us eating meat meant cooking dinner took some planning, However the Aga itself was easy to use and having the electric oven/grill and microwave as well gave options. There was a strong smell of oil in the cupboard to the left of the Aga and if the kitchen door was closed overnight there was a strong smell in the kitchen in the morning. The position and views of the cottage are amazing and if we can, we would love to return to explore the area more. Your neighbour was friendly but she has her own strong opinions as to the parking and these differ from your instructions. Our cars seemed safe and we had no complaints from the farmer or other road users. We visited your parish church- Jesus Church on Sunday and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

The electric wall heaters in the lounge were controlled by the owner on her mobile phone.

She kept turning the temperature down on them and sometimes off completely. We had to telephone her numerous times and ask her to turn the heating on or up, because the room was freezing. It was snowing outside when we were staying there. The Lake District can still be extremely cold even in the summer. The broadband service was so erratic and slow it would not allow Netflix or iPlayer to operate, so the tv was useless. We ended up using our own Vodafone data for the internet. The amount of stairs you have to climb from the front door up to the bedroom is 28, which is even a struggle for someone who is fairly fit. They provided us with one small bath and hand towel each for two weeks holiday, which is really penny-pinching, considering that there is no washing machine in the apartment to wash laundry. The property comes with an allocated parking space, which is ideal in the centre of Windermere. The apartment is located in the centre of Windermere, with shops, restaurants and pubs right on your doorstep. The lounge and bedrooms were decorated to a good standard with very nice furnishings. The kitchen was well equipped with everything required for cooking and eating.

      The directions should be updated.

“Cinderella Me” is now “Lakeland Retreats” and Morrison’s is now Sainsbury’s. I drove around the one way system 3 or 4 times before I spotted the entrance to College Court! The accommodation itself was lovely - comfortable and clean, well equipped and excellent location. Maybe not suitable for young families due to the internal staircases and cream sofas! The provision of only one parking space could be an issue for some guests because the only option was to park on the street and there are parking restrictions between 9am and 6pm. I had a friend stay for one night. She moved her car into one of the empty spaces in college court for 5-10 minutes to unload and immediately one of the permanent residents came out to tell her she couldn’t park there. The same happened when she did the same to pack the car. Also, it might be useful for guests to be aware that if you wish to eat out in Windermere, you will need to book well in advance! I tried to make reservations a week before our trip at the beginning of September and was told by more than one that they were fully booked until mid-October. Takeaway was difficult too, with two Chinese restaurants closed.

We’ve spent a lovely four nights at Rose Cottage.

It was in a fantastic location in walking distance into the high street of Windermere . Decorated to a very high standard. The beds were incredibly comfortable . The property was cleaned exceptionally well and we had all the things we needed in the property for preparing our meals, fantastic oven , I need to get one of those for our house !We enjoyed sitting outside the first night in the sunshine on the patio eating our dinner . Wonderful hot showers , washing machine and tumble drier. Very comfortable lounge. The only minor little faults we found, that didn’t effect our holiday in any way, were that the kitchen bin lid was broken so needed to be open by hand and half the toaster didn’t work. There was a coffee pod machine which would have been great to use, so maybe some pods in your lovely complimentary basket in the kitchen ? And we noticed the kitchen window had dropped with a gap which if it was chilly would create a draft . But honestly those negatives are me needing to be really picky ! The entire house was a delight to stay in and I would love to come back again ! Highly recommend for a family .

I would have no hesitation in recommending Rose House.

The location is perfect, a pleasant easy walk between Bowness one way and Windermere the other. The house itself is one of the best laid out and decorated homes I’ve ever stayed in and I have stayed in a few. The owner has thought of everything, I couldn’t even leave a single recommendation for improvement. The pub across the road is friendly and was a nice feature as it gets somewhat busy early evening and in the sun so you hear a nice buzz if sitting out on the garden terrace but is not noisy later on or rowdy and we were there with a Euros England game on - nothing could be heard inside the house. The car charger was an added bonus as there isn’t an abundance of such facilities in this neck of the woods so was better than sitting in the Booths car park to charge (great supermarket by the way). Dog friendly too as is most of Windermere, we had no problems eating out well and going on boat trips with our pooch. We would return in a heartbeat and may even return to Windermere specifically because this house is there.
