What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ian - Verified booking

Easy to find [thankyou Satnav] and parking was no problem - either outside, or across the street in a small layby.

The cottage was immaculately clean and well presented - a bottle of wine on the table and tasteful, minimalist, Christmas decorations, were equally appreciated. Loved the oak furniture and the solid oak doors throughout the cottage. The bed was very comfortable and it was good to see the countryside from the upstairs window; albeit a distance away, and to spot the incoming weather! A well appointed modern bathroom, although, for those of a certain age, care is needed when stepping into and out of the bath : ). We used the multi-fuel stove, as I was suffering from a bit of a head cold, and appreciated the extra warmth it gave. Took a while to get used to the controls, but it gives out good heat. Poor weather, along with an aim to relax, meant that we only did a couple of canal walks, but really good to have this facility so close. Everything you need is in the kitchen, although it can be a little on the cool side when the wind blows from the west, however, the curtain isolates it nicely from the cosy lounge. There is the pub a short walk down the hill and a short walk further, a small Co-op at the garage roundabout, which has the basics and wood supplies. All in all, a pleasant Christmas break.

      Lovely property.

Very clean & cosy. Excellent communication with flexible check in and out times. Lovely little conservatory with great views. Massive negative with a Gardner in the garden from early morning. (Before 9) for most of the day without even any communication from owner. My self and my husband both have health problems after a busy couple of days we had decided this would be a rest and chill day. Breakfast in bed, looking at the garden. and plans to eat lunch in conservatory The reason we had booked for 3 days also. We are quite private and found this very intrusive. Woken by a strimmer and a man right outside the bedroom window. Consequently, we had breakfast with curtains closed and didn't use conservatory. I realise garden maintenance is needed but this should be booked around changeover days, just like cleaning and any other maintenance. We were only staying 3 days, surely the Gardner could have done it the next day when we were checking out.

Lovely location with great pub nearby.

We enjoyed cycling along the canal and hillwalking around the area. The cottage was very nice, the kitchen well equipped and the bed comfortable. A major downside for us was that, in a very cold week in winter time, downstairs living area and kitchen was uncomfortably cold without the woodburner on (not practical to put on all the tine) There is a small electric wall heater set on a timer that the owner did adjust for us but it is just not man enough to heat the whole area in the winter. The kitchen has no heating and was literally like a fridge! I did ask for the extra mobile heater that the guidebook said was in the cottage, but was told they were using it next door so we weren’t given it! The owner did tell us that he would be upgrading the heating which is needed if they want to let the property in the winter. In the meantime I would suggest they put in an additional heater that guests can put on when they feel they need it.

      A little difficult to find.

Your satnav will take you into a cul-de-sac. Follow the instructions you've been sent to the letter. The apartment is clean and comfortable. Heating is perfect: the thermostat is very efficient. Powerful shower. The bed is firm and comfortable will cool, crisp bed linen. The kitchen is well-equipped. A few gripes which slightly impaired my stay. There is no Sky TV as advertised. Apart from the first freeview channels reception is wobbly and for the last two days the set would not switch on at all. W-fi is intermittent. I had to use my phone as a hotspot and therefore ad to pay for data use. The oven doesn't work. The control knob came off in my hand and inside there were a pair of dirty baking trays. There were only three coathangers. The owner has very limited English so complaining would ave been no use.

The cottage is an excellent size, clean and well equipped.

Great location too. Walking distance to three pubs and the village of Thornton. We had a little dog with us and all the pubs were dog friendly. The cottage had a lovely enclosed garden which again is great if you have dogs or children. Lovely garden furniture if it's warm enough to sit out and if it is a bit chilly there is a lovely conservatory that looks out over the garden. We received a lovely email from owners a couple of days before our stay explaining key collection etc which was really useful. Owners also left some goodies in kitchen for us including freshly laid eggs from their chickens, milk, biscuits, bread and a bottle of wine. All yummy and much appreciated. Would highly recommend this cottage and will definitely come back here ourselves some day.
