What our customers say about their holidays

    • Helen - Verified booking

Good standard of fittings and furnishings, towels and sheets good quality etc.

Plenty of crockery and cutlery. Good location, village is lovely with walks from the door for us and our dog. Hare and Hounds pub a few minutes walk was dog friendly and served good food. The village is centrally located with easy access to Skipton, Malham and lots of lovely areas in the dales. Furniture comfortable and showers great. We did feel there were negatives to the property which could easily be resolved. Having paid over £1100 for one week, we thought it was very poor not to get a welcome pack ~ even a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits would have been a gesture! The back gravel yard was full of weeds, I couldn’t stand it and pulled most out from round the garden furniture so we could sit out. There were no cloths left to clean the outside furniture of the bird poo, and no kitchen roll we could use. The first set of stairs had no bannister rail which proved slightly problematic for one of our party. The skylights on the top floor need a really good clean round the frames, dried up flies and dirt kept dropping out when the wind blew. There were no instructions for things like the washer/drier, changing the gas bottles (which we had to guess to do) and also for the boiler (which we also had an issue with and had to Google how to repressurise). It was nice to have hand wash left in the bathrooms, but 2 of them were virtually empty. No washing up liquid or cloths and only 2 dishwasher tablets left. The kitchen waste bin had a lid with a handle so you had to wash hands every time you put something in the bin. Overall we were pleased with the property but felt the owners could do better given the luxury price tag. I accept this is self catering but we have been to properties for half this price and been better provided for.

We visited street head farm as a family of 8 adults and 2 small children.

It’s a beautiful property which the listing photographs do absolutely no justice to. We arrived after dark on Friday so it was a little tricky to find the tiny entrance (and the directions sent to us we found were harder to get to the property than actually just using the sat nav postcode directions) but we managed to get there. The property itself is beautiful old building overlooking some of the most stunning countryside views we’ve ever seen (although we woke to the thickest mist & fog we’ve seen so we’re unable to see the views till the afternoon on our second day!). The property was lovely, comfortable and warm and very well stocked. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities. Very comfy beds and lovely comfortable living spaces as well as a great big dining table. We loved the wood burning fire and great we had a fire guard too. Loved all the little toys and books for kids and adults too. The kids loved the VHS player and all the old videos, they spent hours watching them! Hot water was always available and the heating was easily adjusted as needed. Lovely to receive a beautiful homemade cake, tea bags and marmalade with fresh flowers on our arrival. Owners were very welcoming and kind. The whole family enjoyed our stay here and we were all sad to leave as 3 days was not enough time to appreciate to view and do all the walks and exploring we wanted to do! We also visited the Hare and Hounds Inn at Lothersdale for Sunday lunch which was lovely and staff great although was advise booking as it got busy. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a lovely countryside break with great places to visit like Colne & Skipton nearby. Thank you so much.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Ryecroft Barn.

We made good use of the Conservatory which was bathed in light and although the American style fridge freezer was not working, the replacement fridge freezer in the utility room was adequate for our use. All the bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the 2 family rooms were very spacious. The airing cupboard was an added bonus for drying towels. There were some areas which I feel could be improved. There are 3 steep steps outside leading to the main door, and 2 steps to the conservatory door. I feel a handrail would be useful for less able guests. My arthritic father really struggled with these and felt that a handrail would have helped him immensely. In the kitchen the only kitchen knives provided were the size of pen knives. Very small, perhaps camping knives? Almost impossible to cut bread with. A decent set of knives would have been appreciated. The shower door in the main bathroom opens inwards which makes it awkward to get in and out. Only by pressing yourself up against the back wall can you edge yourself in. Perhaps the door could be rehung so it opens outwards? And finally the sofa in the conservatory, whilst comfortable, is flaking quite badly. I noticed brown specks around the base and when I lifted the throw I saw that the seat area was flaking badly. I feel that this is a lovely property but with a few adjustments it could be so much more.

The cottage in general was quite good.

The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, the beds very comfortable. However, downstairs was less than expected. The kitchen although quite large, with dishwasher, and plenty of cupboard space, the Fridge/freezer had a fault which should have been put right before we arrived at the property. Although there was a smaller fridge/freezer in the utility room. The cooker was less than adequate for a family of eight, with just two induction hobs, and a grill plate. There was a gas hob as well, but this was not working. The conservatory was very hot, although there was air conditioning, this also did not work. The furniture looked like it had been bought in a second hand furniture shop, or charity shop. the carpets in the conservatory were curled up at the edges, and some if not all of us often tripped over these. The windows in the conservatory had not been cleaned in a long while with moss growing on the roof windows. Cobwebs covered most of the outside of the conservatory, I understand being in the country this could be a problem, but they hadn't been cleaned for a while. The lounge/ TV room was quite comfortable although it had a dank damp smell. Sweets broken biscuits and other unknown objects were found down the sides and underneath the cushions. On the whole it is a lovely cottage, and very well situated. With a little TLC it could be so much better.

On the Whole a lovely house ,however there were some things that are expected when paying that amount of money ,things that wouldn't cost a lot of money but will make a world of difference to guests .

Upstairs (and nowhere in the house ) a full length mirror was nowhere to be found surely this is basic ,also a lock on the family bathroom is really a basic . The kitchen..well a really lovely kitchen just let down by things people expect these days ,,the cutlery looks like it was bought it Poundland shop very poor quality ,that goes for all the other utensils ,also a coffee machine would be a lovely addition (none of us drink instant coffee ,but luckily I took my Nespresso ) A high chair as well, in a house of that size please, when you know a baby is coming . The other thing that would be helpful is some information or leaflets on where to go in the local area ,and the walks ,there is a lovely park just a couple of minutes away but we only found it by chance ! There is usually a book around with all this info in. I don't want to sound as if we are complainers because we all had a really lovely time it is just little touches ,the house itself was perfect for us all to spread out if we wanted to ,and easy to get to many interesting places ,we would return ..
