Guests say

Canal View Cottage in Keighley is highly praised for its cleanliness, idyllic location beside the canal, and cosy comfort. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the thoughtful touches, including a welcome pack. While there is a mention of a shower issue and a noisy road, the overall sentiment is extremely positive, with many guests eager to return.

The cottage is consistently described as spotlessly clean, with numerous reviews highlighting its immaculate condition. One minor issue with a shower not properly containing water is noted, but does not detract significantly from the overall perception of cleanliness.

The location is frequently lauded for its picturesque setting by the canal, with easy access to local walks and amenities. The peaceful and scenic village environment is a recurring theme, although one review mentions a busy road nearby.

Guests find the cottage to be very comfortable, with special mentions of large, comfy beds and a cosy atmosphere. The property is deemed perfect for relaxation and is well-received for its homely feel.

The facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped for guests' needs. However, there are a couple of mentions of maintenance issues, such as the shower flooding and the front door requiring force to close, which suggests room for improvement.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome pack and personal touches. It is noted that such gifts enhance the stay, although it is politely stated that these are not guaranteed for every visit.

Just four miles south of Skipton, in the Aire Valley, along the Leeds to Liverpool canal, is the charming village of Farnhill. There are still some structures in the village that date back to the 17th century, and there are many more from the 19th century, when it was a thriving centre for lead mining and hand loom weaving. In addition to having a top-notch neighbourhood pub, Farnhill is close to Cross Hills, which is home to a variety of historic inns, shops and fine dining establishments. The area's mainline train station also offers convenient access to Leeds, Skipton and the well-known Settle-Carlisle Railway line. As "The Gateway to the Dales," nearby Skipton is home to an old castle, a stunning mediaeval parish church, and a vibrant market that fills the cobblestone "setts" on either side of the high street. Take a typical barge ride down a canal, or go to Embsay Steam Railway, which offers weekend steam train excursions on a regular basis.

South facing Livingroom that offered a fantastic view of canal boats passing by and open countryside beyond. The welcome pack was the best that we have ever had and Tricia had thought of everything that we would need to make our stay very comfortable and relaxing. The local pub was a five minute walk and the local Asda no more than a 10 minute walk.

The cottage was very clean and well maintained. Everything is here that you need. Lots of local walks, good pubs and cafes to explore. Shops nearby in Cross Hills or short drive to Skipton or alternatively 20 minute walk along the canal to Cononley Train station where you can get to other towns or into Leeds if you prefer. Five rises lock was not too far and a lovely place to watch the canal boats negotiate the waterways. Also a local steam railway or Haworth village where the Brontë sisters came from well worth a visit. Happy to recommend this cottage, it is a lovely base and I would say offers very good accommodation.

It was the perfect tonic to chill and relax. Beautiful location, cosy, homely cottage and we had a lovely time in Grassington. We will rebook in 2025 and get out and about more in the area which has so much to offer.
