Plan your holiday your way with Sheffield Holiday Cottages

Sheffield is a cool and cosmopolitan city in the heart of Yorkshire. There's lots to see and do in Sheffield city centre including the Millennium Galleries, Kelham Island Museum and the Botanical Gardens.

The city of Sheffield is also home to a bustling high street and vibrant nightlife with plenty of brilliant restaurants, bars and pubs, and fantastic live music venues, perfect for a memorable night out.

Fancy a break from the city? Surrounding Sheffield you'll find picturesque sprawling countryside and the beautiful Peak District National Park, ideal for outdoor adventures.

To complete your trip, stay in one of our hand-selected Sheffield holiday cottages. We have dozens of gorgeous self-catering properties packed with character, charm, and all the home comforts you could wish for.

Why choose a Sheffield weekend break?

Located in South Yorkshire is Sheffield, a unique city on the edge of the incredible Peak District, so city excitement and stunning natural beauty go hand in hand.

Sheffield is built on hills and rivers, the main one being the River Don, and completely regenerated itself after the Industrial Revolution. Old factory buildings and warehouses retain their historic stature but are now the homes of thriving independent businesses, restaurants, and other cool eateries. In short, Sheffield is a city with a vibrant history mixed with a modern and creative edge.

While the city is well-known for its steel production, there is so much more to Sheffield. It's a multicultural city with an eclectic arts scene, from museums and galleries to theatre and live music. One of our favourite areas is Kelham Island, which was once a powerhouse of industry and is now an eclectic and trendy neighbourhood.

Sheffield's museums are all free to visit, and many of them tell the stories of the city's past. The Kelham Island Museum is a fascinating insight into Sheffield going back over 300 years, while Weston Park Museum located just outside the city centre, provides history going back to prehistoric times.

For a spot of tranquillity in the heart of the city, head to the Winter Garden, a beautiful oasis and one of Europe's largest urban greenhouses. The eco-friendly building is a lovely way to enjoy a spot of respite, where you can relax among over 2,000 plants from across the globe. Or why not visit the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral and marvel at the oldest building in the city?

Impressive street art is everywhere in Sheffield. You can take a street art tour around the city or pop into The Millennium Gallery or Graves Gallery for more street art fun.

Music fans will be in heaven when visiting Sheffield. The city is renowned for its music scene, with famous artists including Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Pulp, Def Leppard, and The Human League hailing from Sheffield. You can even spot a huge portrait of Jarvis Cocker on the side of a building in Kelham Island.

To experience some top-notch live music, head to iconic venues such as The Leadmill, the longest running live music venue in the city.

Sheffield is also a dream come true for foodies. It has a thriving independent food scene, with countless cafes, eateries, restaurants, street food stalls, and bars everywhere you look. To discover more amazing food spots, join a Kelham Island Food Tour, or go to Cutlery Works, a food hall in Kelham Island with a buzzing atmosphere and lots of independent food vendors.

There's also lots of excellent shopping to be had in Sheffield. For something a little different, venture slightly south of the city centre and have a wander around the Antiques Quarter. It's a quirky area filled with ancient buildings and hidden antique gems. Meadowhall is a huge shopping mall packed with over 250 stores from high street to designer. There's also a massive food court and a cinema.

With so much to see and do in Sheffield, you'll only wish your trip could go on for longer.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Janet - Verified booking

We have stayed here before at both cottages.

They are in a great area for walking, so much around. Great selection of pubs if you want to eat out or socialise lots. On this occasion we were happy to cook and stay away from lots of people. Ample shops for gorgeous fresh bread, cakes and the staff are really friendly and welcoming which is great. The cottage is lovely and doing yoga looking out at the hills a great bonus. Appreciated the food hamper left for us, thank you very much made us smile. I can't think of much negative thoughts just 2 points. I personally could not lock the door from the outside as a problem with the lock. We did mention it and it was not sorted before we left so hope it mended soon. If my husband wasn't there although a safe village would not appreciate leaving it unlocked whilst out. We have always found the parking fine as we don't use the car all week so need to chat with other cottage. Have always found them nice and agreeable. Thanks for a great week Regards Janet and Steve

One of the best cottages I’ve stayed in!

Exceptionally well equipped (with games, books, loads of crockery and good quality cooking utensils/pans etc). Very friendly ( but not intrusive) owners and a wonderful welcome pack, which we really appreciated. Comfy beds and lounge furniture. Spotlessly clean and high quality furnishings. Nice and warm. I’m forever grateful to the owner for speedily coming to the rescue with a spare key when I managed to lose the original whilst we were out walking. Thankyou, Pam!! The stairs are very steep (the extra hand rail was much appreciated!) which might be a problem for any infirm visitors, but we managed to negotiate them fine with our middle aged knees! The only thing I could think to improve would be a larger fridge ( or an extra one down in the cellar, alongside the freezer) …. But then we did bring enough food to feed an army. We should probably have just eaten out more at the pub which is directly opposite and serves amazing food!

      The big issue is parking.

The Bulls Head is listed on the website, and in the visitor information book in the cottage, as somewhere to park, and to leave keys. However, when we left our car there, and notified a member of staff as a matter of courtesy, they were not happy. We didn’t understand why until we spoke to the owner who confirmed they no longer own the pub. There is space for two cars outside the cottage but only by blocking one car in; we had to discuss with the people next door when they would be coming and going and, as they were there first, we moved our car to accommodate them. It is almost impossible to park in the village at weekends as it is so busy. The gas fire doesn’t work (waiting for parts) but the central heating is efficient. On a positive note, the cottage is spacious, comfortable and clean; the shower is powerful, the bed extremely comfortable and there was a plentiful supply of dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, tea towels etc.

The cottage is very quaint and comfortable, with a lot of nice touches.

It was a very cold week in December, so the heating was important & we did find this difficult to keep the place warm as we had to up the thermometer as it entered a new pre-programmed period. Once it was sussed, no issues & with a warm log burner going, it was very cosy, I suggest you take your own wood to burn. The downstairs bathroom is very cold! Beds are super comfortable. Another note that the garden is accessed via a very steep stairway, even our dog did not like going out that way, so we walked up the village street where there is a green. Great Longstone is beautiful with walks from the door, a great village shop (that sell the best Pork Pies) and 2 pubs that both have great food & beer, winner winner! I also highly recommend the Pack Horse Inn in Little Longstone, a 15 minute walk but better beer & even better food!

We had a lovely weekend at Buttercup Cottage.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, the living room was cosy, especially once we got the wood burner up and running (we bought a box of kindling from up the road) and the kitchen was spacious and very well equipped. We didn’t use the garden as the weather wasn’t great but the steps up to it are steep. The beds were comfortable and the showers worked well, although the downstairs one was a little stiff to turn on (reported to owners). The heating was efficient but hot during the night (again, reported to owners). The cottage is in a beautiful, peaceful village with two excellent dog friendly pubs within a few minutes walk. Nice to see a few horses trotting past the window. Great location for days out too … Bakewell, Monsal Head, Monsal Trail, Thornbridge Hall to name a few. Would definitely recommend.
