Enjoy a memorable trip with our Doncaster holiday cottages

The minster town of Doncaster, named after the River Don flowing through its centre, is a city in all but status. It's the second-largest settlement in South Yorkshire (after Sheffield) and acts as a major regional hub for the area, so there's plenty to keep you and your favourite people busy.

Looking for activities in Doncaster? You'll be spoilt for choice.

The Danum Gallery is full of interesting exhibits, the new town library is brimming with fascinating reads, and the seven-screen Savoy Cinema showcases all the latest movies. There are brilliant indoor and outdoor markets full of independent vendors and plenty of sporting and cultural events throughout the year. Doncaster Racecourse is always a popular attraction alongside the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where you can see the only polar bears in the UK.

Book one of our beautiful Doncaster self-catering properties to make the most of this exciting destination. Each of our gorgeous cottages is ideal for a Doncaster weekend break. Choose from cute old cottages, sleek modern apartments, and even stylish glamping pods.

Why choose a Doncaster weekend break or staycation?

Doncaster is a major market town in South Yorkshire, and while it might get overshadowed by nearby cities such as Sheffield, it's something of a hidden gem.

Doncaster has a long and fascinating history, which is thought to start with a Roman settlement. Archaeology has shown that the city was built up during medieval times, and Conisborough Castle was constructed after the Norman Conquest. You can visit the magnificent fortress, which is now an English Heritage site. It's been standing since the 12th century and the keep is one of the area's most striking landmarks.

While you're in a historical mood, head to the beautiful Brodsworth Hall and Gardens. This open home offers the opportunity to marvel at the Victorian living standards and a host of opulent treasures and relics. Wander around the grand kitchen and scullery, and feel like you've stepped back in time. The gardens are stunning, with colourful floral displays and impressive statues. There's also a lovely tearoom to enjoy a well-earned cuppa.

For a spot of culture, make sure you visit Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery. If you want to learn more about Doncaster's past, including seeing genuine artefacts and relics from years gone by, then this is the place to be. The art gallery is lovely to stroll around and features artwork from across the centuries.

If you're travelling with the kids, there is lots to do to keep them entertained. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is set on 70 acres of land with a safari village and a wide variety of animals to meet. Get up close and personal with polar bears, leopards, meerkats, black rhinos, and lots more. For more animal fun, head to Boston Park Farm and meet the farmyard critters. You can pet and feed them, and take on the brilliant maize maze.

Doncaster is home to one of the world's oldest racing festivals, the St. Leger. The festival started in 1776 and draws in tourists from across the globe. Whether you're a horse racing fan or just fancy an epic day out, a trip to the races is a must.

If you want to escape the city for the day and immerse yourself in the spectacular countryside, Doncaster has three National Parks right on its doorstep, and the coastline, complete with beaches, coves, and seaside resorts, is just a short drive away.

Whatever floats your boat, you're sure to have a fun and exciting break in Doncaster, whatever the occasion.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sheena - Verified booking

The Hay Barn is a beautiful property in a lovely rural setting & was the perfect place for 3 generations of our family to spend time together.

The interior is stunning, very spacious with great features such as exposed brickwork, beams in the bedrooms & deep window sills (ideal window seats to gaze out at the surrounding countryside views). The finish is superb and quality of furnishings, fittings, linens outstanding. Above all it feels homely and welcoming. Everything has been provided that guests could possibly need, along with some unexpected little treats on arrival - a lovely touch from our host. Photographs don’t really do it justice - we loved the look from the pictures but ‘in the flesh’ (so to speak) The Hay Barn is so much more impressive. The outside space is delightful & compliments the property. A large courtyard style area with a beautiful raised flower bed, lawn, a range of seating areas and even some ride on toys for the youngest guests. Though previously a hot tub could be could be hired in via the owner, the addition of a large permanent hot tub is a huge bonus and really added a touch of luxury to our stay. Fishlake is a rural village but there are plenty of places to visit it & things to do within a short distance. Lots of lovely walks, a luxury day spa on the doorstep, farm/wildlife parks - as well as places to go out to eat. Jill the owner was a perfect host - very friendly, helpful & responsive. She contacted me personally ahead of our stay and was very quick replying to any questions. We also really appreciated her suggestions for places to visit with our granddaughter. We had the pleasure of meeting Jill with her friend on arrival they were most welcoming - just what we needed after a drive in awful weather! Thank you again Jill for a wonderful birthday break with our family & being such a great host. We all loved our time at The Hay Barn & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Very rural setting in the village of Misterton.

Plenty of scenic walks without having to take your vehicle out with you. Would be great for cyclists (we didn't take ours). The views from the lodge are amazing, hardly anything but stunning countryside. The lodge was brand new for our stay (May 2021). It has a very cosy seating area both inside and out, a very usable kitchen. We found we didn't need to pack anything out of the ordinary for our break. The hot tub is great to chill out in and rest your feet after a day of the Great British outdoors! If your thinking of going a bit further afield there is a local taxi company, be warned it's a one man operation so if your used to ordering a taxi and getting picked up in 10 minutes, you may want to pre-book some trips. Malcolm, his name is and he gave us pretty much a guided tour of the area, as he took us out to Bawtry. Would recommend this trip if you can spare a day or evening of your Holiday! There's a full size snooker table and fussball table on site and books and dvds in the lodge if you feel like relaxing on site. The owners where lovely and very helpful, all the best to Michelle and Geoff, you guys did a fantastic job for us!

Whenever I arrive at a property these days I immediately think, "Would I stay here again?

" I'm pleased if I can say "yes" straight away, and if nothing changes my mind throughout the week, I think I'm on a winner. This is one of those. It's clear that this hasn't been let for long, the place is very clean and the finish of the building shows a fine eye for detail. Very little has been spared to make it really nice. There were six of us staying at Hay Barn, with a baby and toddler. We had everything we needed, there was enough china and cutlery to be able to leave the dishwasher until it was full. Plenty of useful cooking pots too. The courtyard garden was nice and a great area to use, the little one was able to run around safely. There are nice walks around the property and chances to see some cows and wildlife. The bat which managed to get into a bedroom one evening was a treat! Anyone without a fishing landing-net in the car might have taken a different view, but I'm sure that it's a once in a lifetime occurrence both for us and the building. The owners were nearby and were very helpful if we needed anything else, thanks for the advice on where to go and the baby thermometer.

We had a lovey stay at The Hay Barn in Fishlake.

The 4 bedroom barn was perfect for the six of us who were looking for a spacious modern property for a weekend of relaxing away in the countryside. The Hay Barn is a very modern property and the owners have really thought about balancing modern facilities whilst still retaining the original charm of the barn. The kitchen is equipped with AEG appliances, the bathrooms have excellent showers with good water flow and the large smart TV is great for watching a movie at the end of the day. The garden is a great place for a BBQ, breakfast or any kind of dining and with the added canopy, you have some shelter from the elements. One of the property highlights is a huge, modern hot tub which was prepared for us by the owner and checked during our stay. A great addition and something which separates this property from one’s we have stayed at in the past. Overall, a great property for larger families or large groups wanting to spend time relaxing in a modern facility within the countryside. Thank you Gill and Jack for your hospitality!

We absolutely loved our stay at Birch View Lodges.

We booked our mini break for a relaxing get away from the real world for a few days and it was so worth it. The lodge itself was so clean (it was like we were the first people that had ever been in). We had a bottle of proseco in the fridge, along with milk and waters. We were also given fresh bread with jam & marmalade. We felt very spoilt straight away. The outside area with hot tub was great and you are supplied with LOTS of wood. We loved the outdoor space for a bbq and roasting marshmallows in the evening watching the stars. The hot tub was great...very peaceful and relaxing. Michelle was super friendly and helped us with any questions or queries during our stay. We enjoyed several games of snooker in the games room on a rainy day. We loved our stay so much, we have booked again for a birthday and we have family members booking for the other lodges. Would highly recommend!!!
