Plan your holiday your way with Sheffield Holiday Cottages

Sheffield is a cool and cosmopolitan city in the heart of Yorkshire. There's lots to see and do in Sheffield city centre including the Millennium Galleries, Kelham Island Museum and the Botanical Gardens.

The city of Sheffield is also home to a bustling high street and vibrant nightlife with plenty of brilliant restaurants, bars and pubs, and fantastic live music venues, perfect for a memorable night out.

Fancy a break from the city? Surrounding Sheffield you'll find picturesque sprawling countryside and the beautiful Peak District National Park, ideal for outdoor adventures.

To complete your trip, stay in one of our hand-selected Sheffield holiday cottages. We have dozens of gorgeous self-catering properties packed with character, charm, and all the home comforts you could wish for.

Why choose a Sheffield weekend break?

Located in South Yorkshire is Sheffield, a unique city on the edge of the incredible Peak District, so city excitement and stunning natural beauty go hand in hand.

Sheffield is built on hills and rivers, the main one being the River Don, and completely regenerated itself after the Industrial Revolution. Old factory buildings and warehouses retain their historic stature but are now the homes of thriving independent businesses, restaurants, and other cool eateries. In short, Sheffield is a city with a vibrant history mixed with a modern and creative edge.

While the city is well-known for its steel production, there is so much more to Sheffield. It's a multicultural city with an eclectic arts scene, from museums and galleries to theatre and live music. One of our favourite areas is Kelham Island, which was once a powerhouse of industry and is now an eclectic and trendy neighbourhood.

Sheffield's museums are all free to visit, and many of them tell the stories of the city's past. The Kelham Island Museum is a fascinating insight into Sheffield going back over 300 years, while Weston Park Museum located just outside the city centre, provides history going back to prehistoric times.

For a spot of tranquillity in the heart of the city, head to the Winter Garden, a beautiful oasis and one of Europe's largest urban greenhouses. The eco-friendly building is a lovely way to enjoy a spot of respite, where you can relax among over 2,000 plants from across the globe. Or why not visit the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral and marvel at the oldest building in the city?

Impressive street art is everywhere in Sheffield. You can take a street art tour around the city or pop into The Millennium Gallery or Graves Gallery for more street art fun.

Music fans will be in heaven when visiting Sheffield. The city is renowned for its music scene, with famous artists including Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Pulp, Def Leppard, and The Human League hailing from Sheffield. You can even spot a huge portrait of Jarvis Cocker on the side of a building in Kelham Island.

To experience some top-notch live music, head to iconic venues such as The Leadmill, the longest running live music venue in the city.

Sheffield is also a dream come true for foodies. It has a thriving independent food scene, with countless cafes, eateries, restaurants, street food stalls, and bars everywhere you look. To discover more amazing food spots, join a Kelham Island Food Tour, or go to Cutlery Works, a food hall in Kelham Island with a buzzing atmosphere and lots of independent food vendors.

There's also lots of excellent shopping to be had in Sheffield. For something a little different, venture slightly south of the city centre and have a wander around the Antiques Quarter. It's a quirky area filled with ancient buildings and hidden antique gems. Meadowhall is a huge shopping mall packed with over 250 stores from high street to designer. There's also a massive food court and a cinema.

With so much to see and do in Sheffield, you'll only wish your trip could go on for longer.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Christine - Verified booking

We stayed at Holly Cottage to avoid the stress and inconvenience whilst out kitchen was being removed prior to a refit.

It was certainly a relaxing place to stay: clean, warm, cosy, thoughtfully furnished and well equipped. A few complimentary items made us feel very welcome. The location was wonderful - but then we knew that as we live quite nearly. There are some great walks right from the door. Our stay was in November but in warmer weather, the outside space would be very nice. A couple of negatives: the 4G Popup was very poor. If you wanted to do some work which relied on the internet, it wouldn’t be suitable. Also a very poor phone signal (at least on O2) meant you couldn’t contact others - including the owners if necessary - from the cottage itself. Not a problem if you really want to get away from it all. As for the kitchen area, there was very little storage space for food. The fridge was tiny, with a small freezer area and the drawers and cupboards were all full. There were no instructions for the appliances so using the cooker and microwave involved guesswork. Although we didn’t use them, I imagine the same applies to the dishwasher and washing machine. This last issue could easily be rectified. In spite of these issues, we would definitely recommend this lovely cottage for a peaceful and comfortable retreat.

Peaceful location close to the reservoir.

Holly Cottage is one of 4 high end old saw mill conversions. Really nicely appointed, very private and lounge window looks out on garden and woods. It’s a lovely place to spend a relaxing holiday. Very secure, access is through electric gates, beautiful walks literally on the door step. It’s a car journey to the pub, however loads of great pubs in the area and most are dog friendly. Low and High Bradfield a short drive away, we’ll worth a visit. Lunchtime special in the Plough £6.50 and they serve Bradfield beer. The only thing I didn’t like was it’s got an adjoining door with Oak cottage, open if you book both cottages. You could just hear the neighbours through the door if they had the tv on too loud. It is mentioned in the description and probably a great feature for 2 families holidaying together. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would book again. High standards again from Sykes Cottages.

Stone farm cottage is like a home from home, it has everything you need for a comfy stay.

Great size bedrooms and comfortable beds. Very well equipped kitchen and a secure garden surrounded by beautiful scenery. The cottage is located on a working farm which is such an added bonus, so many animals and the owners are more than happy to take you around to see them. As we stayed during lambing season we got to see the baby lambs, some just a few hours old, an amazing experience and brilliant if you bring children, they will love seeing all the animals! Really loved staying here and cannot thank the owners enough, very friendly hard working family, always happy to help with anything you need or take the time out to speak with you. Excellent hosts. We received a very warm welcome and a friendly good bye. I will certainly recommend to family and friends and will definitely be booking to come back again.

This is our second stay at these lovely cottages.

We stayed at Chestnut Cottage in October 2021. The cottages are really elegant and comfortable in a delightful and peaceful location. Great for local walks and also a good base for exploring the rest of the peak district. Three local supermarkets in Stocksbridge make self catering very easy. Holly cottage is the smallest (we were late making our booking this year) but is still more than adequate and once again we had a delightful stay. I should have reviewed Chestnut Cottage last October. It would have got 5 stars across the board, but our beloved German Shephard (Scooby) passed away a couple of days after our return and I couldn't think about the holiday at the time as it was too raw. Belated thank you to the owners for our wonderful stay last year.

We loved staying in Holly Cottage.

The directions and key collection instructions made for a smooth arrival process. We loved the general feel of the place and the facilities such as the fridge freezer, dishwasher and coffee machine were great. We also appreciated that we didn't need to bring or buy anything extra as everything from hand-wash to kitchen roll was available. Our son loved the enclosed outdoor space and loved running around on the grass. If there was one tiny niggle, it was that recycling instructions weren't clear from the outset so we ended up putting all of our rubbish into a black bin bag, only to find out on leaving day that it could have been recycled. A laminated note by the bin would have been useful. Thank you for a restful and stress-free holiday.
