About this property

This charming, semi-detached cottage sits within the village of Great Longstone, Derbyshire. Boasting a characterful accommodation over two floors, Buttercup Cottage is a great base for families or two couples looking to escape to the heart of Peak District. Head through the front door, kick off your boots in the porch area before heading into the sitting room, complete with exposed beams, two plush sofas and a woodburning stove, a lovely space to unwind each evening. Move into the kitchen/diner, dominated with a range gas cooker, where you can rustle up a feast for the group whilst the dining table is set with crockery and cutlery. From the kitchen doors, head outside and up to the lawned garden, where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage whilst relaxing on the patio furniture. As the night grows darker, venture upstairs and make yourself comfortable in either of the bedrooms; the master houses a super-king-size with zip/link beds, can be arranged as a twin on request, whilst the double has an en-suite shower room. From the door there are some excellent walks and cycle routes throughout the local area as well as trail and fell running to enjoy! Within a short walk there is a well-stocked village shop and two pubs, The Crispin and the White Lion, where you can enjoy a pint and some tasty grub. Head to Bakewell, a charming market town where you can enjoy Bakewell Pudding and visit the iconic Chatsworth House, a 1600s mansion and garden. Continue the adventure at Matlock Bath, which offers an aquarium, the Peak District Mining Museum and the fun-filled Gulliver’s Kingdom. All this and much more awaits at Buttercup Cottage.

Great Longstone, a charming village in Derbyshire, is located in the Peak District National Park in a fantastic setting. With Longstone Edge on either side, Bakewell, and Chatsworth House nearby, Great Longstone enjoys a privileged location. The village has two classic local inns, a store, stone homes from the 18th century, and a market cross that is placed on the charming village green. The eight and a half miles of picturesque, traffic-free walking and biking on the Monsal Trail, which passes through the village, are made up of various tunnels as well as the magnificent viaduct at Monsal Head, which will keep the whole family entertained. The picture-postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water is just down the road. It has a historic Sheepwash Bridge, which was formerly a key location for packhorses crossing the River Wye on their way to bring mail from Derby. Many stores, eateries, and pubs may be found in the nearby, well-known market town of Bakewell, which is reachable along the Monsal Trail. Farmers' markets are also held there frequently. Take a stroll along the riverbank to observe the "love locks" on the footbridge and to feed the ducks and geese. The spa city of Buxton, home to the Opera House, is also reachable by car. All of the nearby stately homes, including the well-known Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall, are easily accessible. You might also travel to the Richard Arkwright Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford. You will be spoiled for choice at this great location because of the nearby spectacular castle and caverns at Castleton.

The only negative was the fact that the second bathroom was downstairs and very cold. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay though and would like to compliment the owners on their excellent taste and style. Thank you.

It was a very cold week in December, so the heating was important & we did find this difficult to keep the place warm as we had to up the thermometer as it entered a new pre-programmed period. Once it was sussed, no issues & with a warm log burner going, it was very cosy, I suggest you take your own wood to burn. The downstairs bathroom is very cold! Beds are super comfortable. Another note that the garden is accessed via a very steep stairway, even our dog did not like going out that way, so we walked up the village street where there is a green. Great Longstone is beautiful with walks from the door, a great village shop (that sell the best Pork Pies) and 2 pubs that both have great food & beer, winner winner! I also highly recommend the Pack Horse Inn in Little Longstone, a 15 minute walk but better beer & even better food!
