Go on a seaside adventure with Devon holiday cottages

Devon in the South West is a great choice for your next staycation, whether you're travelling with friends, family, your better half or even alone.

Home to sandy beaches, surfing, sea views, dense countryside, picturesque towns and villages, and two National Parks, there's a reason it's known as the English Riviera. Plus, there's so much to do, from visiting Dartmoor National Park and its Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to exploring the South West Coast Path, you'll have plenty to fill your to-do list.

When it comes to Devon holiday cottages, you're in for a treat. Think beautiful holiday homes along the coast with stunning views, or cosy Devon holiday rentals in the heart of the countryside.

At Snaptrip, we'll find you a holiday cottage that ticks all the boxes in this incredible holiday destination. From places to stay with room for the whole family, to pet-friendly places surrounded by epic views and dog-friendly beaches, you're sure to find the perfect base for your Devon holiday.

Why choose a Devon weekend break or staycation?

Devon has one of the most beautiful and varied landscapes in the UK. You'll find picture-perfect beaches, tropical island-worthy sea views, pretty villages, bustling market towns, dramatic National Parks, and jaw-dropping cliffs.

If you're going on a holiday to Devon then a beach trip (or several) should be at the top of your itinerary. The harbour towns that line the coast are like something from a storybook, with sandy, cobbled stone streets, beautiful shops to explore, and plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes to tempt you. Don't forget to indulge in a classic Devon cream tea while you're visiting.

There are so many beautiful beaches to choose from, but some of our favourites include Monmouth Beach, Torre Abbey Sands, Exmouth Beach, Dawlish Beach, and Strete Gate Beach. All of which offer huge stretches of powdery-soft sand and idyllic blue waters, so pack your cossies and lots of sun cream, and enjoy days spent lazing by the coast.

Devon is also home to some of the loveliest towns you can imagine. From vibrant towns soaked in history to sweet villages immersed in spectacular countryside.

Lyme Regis is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The sleepy and laidback atmosphere will help you unwind as you wander around the countryside, stroll along the coast, mooch around the pretty harbour, and pop into shops and cafes in the town.

If you're a fan of the classic British sitcom Fawlty Towers, why not stay in the town where the iconic hotel is based? Torquay in the heart of the English Rivera is packed with lots to see and do. The continental vibe of the town is ideal for a seaside holiday, with a lovely marina to explore, Abbey Sands Beach to chill out on, and a classic seaside promenade to spend your evenings. There are also lots of castles and historical landmarks close by, so make sure you pack your walking shoes.

Exmouth is a lively port town which boasts two miles of golden beaches on the Jurassic Coast. There are lots of fun outdoor activities to get stuck into, and plenty of shops and brilliant places to eat with fresh seafood to keep you full and happy.

If you're craving the buzz of a vibrant town, head to Exeter and explore its bustling Quayside area. Exeter has a history dating back to the Romans and there are lots of attractions to satisfy every history buff, including the incredible cathedral. The dramatic Dartmoor National Park is just a short drive away, so you can pack up the car and head off on an adventure.

With so much to see and do in this gorgeous part of the UK, you're only challenge is choosing which location your Devon holiday cottage should be in.

Thousands of Devon holiday rentals to choose from

Our range of cottages has been carefully selected to ensure they have everything you need to have a holiday you'll never forget. You'll find properties with cosy bedrooms, driveways, private gardens to take in the views, kitchens and lounges to cook and relax in, and all the home comforts you could want.

Some of our properties even have extra special features including swimming pools, hot tubs, games rooms, and awe-inspiring views. With many of our holiday homes being pet-friendly, even your furry pal can come along and join in the fun.

Whether you choose a rustic cottage in the Devonshire countryside, a contemporary cottage on the edge of the water, or a spectacular converted barn complete with a hot tub, our huge range of holiday cottages has something for everyone.

What our customers say about their holidays

I’ve stayed at a number of lighthouse locations with RR. This one was not of the usual standard mainly due to the disinterest of the property contact Lisa. On ringing for arrival instructions there was NO interest in me as a customer/guest. It was all about what I had to do with rubbish, re-cycling, bedding etc - no pleasantries whatsoever. Not a great advert. No welcome or leaving text as I’d normally expect. This inattentive attitude continued when I enquired as to there being NO toiletries on arrival. It took Lisa 2 days to respond bluntly saying there wasn’t any as RR hadn’t sent them! Surely, when purchasing the welcome hamper a small supply of toiletries could have been included? I then notified Lisa that the extractor fan in the bathroom wasn’t working and clearly hadn’t been for sometime as paint was peeling off the walls and in need of attention - no response. Otherwise the property was in good order and no other issues at all. Just a shame Lisa wasn’t willing or able to deliver the Customer Service I’ve come to expect from RR property managers. ☹️

My stay at the Warden Bull Point Lighthouse was absolutely wonderful. The scenery is incredible, it was a dream to stay there. The cottage was lovely, very clean, decorated with taste and it had a wonderful home-y feel to it. Everything was perfect! Rural Retreats did a great job with their arrival manual and the landlady Lisa was nice and efficient as well, so it was not any trouble finding the lighthouse and getting in the cottage on my own. I had the smallest car I could rent which was a great choice on my part since the road to get to the lighthouse is very narrow, so that's something to consider if you want to book this cottage too ;) The villages surrounding the area were absolutely adorable too, by the way. It's very easy to get to the beaches nearby by car and there are also a lot of beautiful walking trails scattered around. I would definitely recommend booking this place if you want a quiet original place to stay in and be surrounded by amazing landscapes anywhere you look. I know that I will definitely go back someday!

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting, but it does require a higher level of care to keep it a five-star retreat. Problems we encountered: Key safe incredibly difficult to open (we had to call the housekeeper who immediately responded); Bath mat not clean (did not report it); Shower not very clean, hot water impossible for me to turn off (my husband had to be ready to jump in after me to do it) and impossible to turn off hot water completely so it is permanently leaking water); boiler three times failed to produce hot water, showed a fault, and was reported to housekeeper who immediately responded (which meant we had to use the key safe 😟). Previous occupants of some of the three cottages have left two black bins and one recycling box completely full. Reported it, but no satisfactory response. Not the fault of the cottage, but we won’t rent anywhere with such a narrow long lane ever again.

Always a great place to stay and a wonderful cozy atmosphere. The cottage (Warden) is just for two people and is so beautifully appointed. The kitchen is well appointed and the living room had new sofas and soft furnishings. The bedroom is always cozy. The bed linen is soft and white and the pillows are great, beautifully soft and gentle. The cottage is right on the coastal path so ideal for walks to Woolacombe or Lee valley. The scenery is stunning. I would urge Rural Retreats to ensure guests are informed to close and lock the gates. There is no way through the property to the coastal path but if the gates are open folk wander in and past your living room window or worse still bedroom window trying to find a way on to the path. The ‘NO access to lighthouse and coastal path’ signage needs renewing.

An excellent location but the cottage could benefit from more maintenance particularly with the bathroom, where the door catch was missing and we had visitors all week in the form of woodlice from under the bath. It would have been helpful to store our vehicle in one of the garages on site as we had to remove sea salt from the car after a drenching each time from the sea during the storms. Note; the winds can be extremely strong and will easily remove hats, spectacles and blow you off your feet! The accommodation is very clean and comfortable and is publicized as a 'heritage building' yet we noticed all the internal heritage features like vent grilles painted or plastered over and the wonderful window locks left dulled and covered in paint flecks from poor decoration.
