What our customers say about their holidays

    • John - Verified booking

      Excellent property.

We will be back! HOWEVER, you may wish to pass on to the owner the following problems: 1. Leaving the key in a key box located inside the external bin cupboard was not a good start. We arrived at 5.30pm (just half an hour after the earliest permitted access time) so it was starting to get dark. I am 79 and my Wife is 75 and we needed to contort ourselves just to find the key box! There was a chord hanging down, which we presumed was a light, but if it was, it didn't work! So, we found the key box but it was so dark inside the cupboard we couldn't read the numbers to open it! Our 'phone torch was not strong enough but luckily a lady who is living at number 24 came over with a torch and she actually managed to get in the cupboard and get the key out of the box for us. I'm not sure what we would have done if she hadn't been there! We think it would be far better if the box was screwed to the inside of the bin cupboard door, thus once the door is open, it would be easy to locate and operate. 2. The plug in the ground floor bathroom washbasin does not hold water. Impossible to keep any water in the basin. Most frustrating. 3. Two of the five table lamps in the bedrooms did not work (bulbs need replacing?) and the table lamp in the sitting room also does not work. We only offer the above information because if no-one tells you/the owner, nothing would be corrected. We WILL be back! Regards John and Maggie Reeve.

      The cottage was lovely.

Lots of character and very clean. It was very well equipped, including items for a baby or toddler (highchair/ travel cot available/ roll out stairgates already set up upstairs and downstairs). The owners have also clearly thought about how they are managing safety with Covid-19. There is a garden (be aware this is not directly attached to the property), and a very small outside patio space between the living room and kitchen which is quite nice to sit at. The house is situated in a small, quiet village ten minutes drive from Dawlish/Dawlish Warren etc, and a good base for days out. Although no front drive parking, we never had any issue getting a space on the road next to the house, and there is a free village car park right next to the place anyway. Wi-Fi could be a bit patchy at one end of the house, but not really a problem for us. Those with mobility issues may wish to consider that there are a couple of steepish steps between the living area and kitchen. We stayed here with our toddler, and it worked really well for us. We would happily return.

Dittisham is great and 20 Dittisham Court is an attractive three bedroom house in Dittisham Court.

It's generally well-equipped and was clean on arrival. We booked for 2 weeks and there was no apparent provision for clean linen/towels after the first week. There was no owner or agent contact information in the accommodation documents (they said refer to agent) and no contact information in Coast & Country's emails which said contact owner/housekeeper. That's a minor problem for linen - but worse for no hot water. The oil boiler is on the second floor next to the main bedroom. It smelled strongly of oil and fumes from the nearby roof flue continually blew into the ensuite. Two days before leaving the hot water stopped, I tried again to find contact information and sent an email - not realising until the next day all the agent's emails are 'no-reply'. I then resorted to Facebook/Messenger and sent a message, receiving an automated reply saying C&C's team would respond ASAP - that was 15 Aug 2024 - as of 30 Aug I have had no reply. So overall a mixed experience - better communications are needed and the boiler needs looking at.

Primrose Cottage provided the perfect holiday retreat whilst retaining that warm homely feeling.

It was equipped to a high standard by owners who obviously take pride in the quality of fixtures and fittings for their guests. It is located in a quiet village within easy range of Exeter City or the Devon and Dorset coastal areas. The private secluded garden was a particularly welcome feature. Although the village shop has closed, the Farm Shop of Powderham Castle is a five minute walk from the cottage (slight gradient but none too taxing) and provided a wide range of quality provisions. There are walking and cycling paths criss-crossing the area for those who have a mind to explore. A range of eating places are within easy reach (two Restaurants in the village) and the Fish and Chip Van which visits the car park for a couple of hours on Wednesday evening is a must! Our ten day stay was peaceful and relaxing and the cottage played a large part in making that happen.

    • Kerry - Verified booking

Although the boathouse is secluded there is always something happening, from the various species of wildlife to the boats and canoes on the river.

Our children aged 12 & 13 were never bored and always found something to occupy their time, we took laptops etc but didn't use them ( the wifi isn't the best ). At low tide we would go off exploring and enjoyed some lovely walks , high tide could never come soon enough for the kids, they loved crabbing off the mooring. Everything we needed from supermarkets to days out was within a 15 minute drive, Brixham harbour was a lovely place to visit. My husband chose to drive down to the steps instead of parking at the designated spot, he had no problems doing this in decent conditions and if we had got stuck Charlie would have been on hand to tow us out. The boathouse is a hidden gem! We were blown away and have rebooked for next year.
