    Holiday Cottages in Torquay

For a taste of the continent without having to leave the UK, book one of our Torquay Cottages in the heart of the English Riviera. Lined with palm trees and strings of coloured lights that illuminate the seafront by night, there's possibly nowhere more quintessentially English to take a break. With the stunning Abbey Sands beach virtually on your doorstep and the marina playing host to a variety of boats, yachts and cruisers, you could easily forget that you're in Britain at all. With plenty of attractions in the area, our extensive range of Torquay Cottages are absolutely ideal for families looking to enjoy some downtime together. Who needs the south of France when you have the southwest of England?

There's also plenty of appeal for couples looking for a romantic break. Torquay is packed with some excellent restaurants, ranging from quaint bistros to fine-dining establishments. On top of that you've got the famous promenade, the perfect spot for romantic walks, whatever the weather, whatever the time of year. Booking one of our holiday cottages in Torquay also puts you right at the heart of the action for festivals such as the International Agatha Christie Festival and the English Riviera Festival.

What's good to see and do in Torquay?

If you've booked one of our holiday cottages in Torquay for the whole family, you'll find lots of attractions practically on your doorstep. Kent's Cavern is packed with subterranean surprises and very close to the Babbacombe Model Village, which compacts all the charms of an English Riviera town in miniature. There are some excellent castles worth visiting, such as Compton Castle and Meadfoot, but be sure to set aside some time to visit Berry Pomeroy castle; not only is it a crumbling, atmospheric ruin, but it's also supposed to be the most haunted castle in Britain!

Couples are equally spoilt when it comes to days out. Beautiful beaches aside, you might want to take a trip to the elegant All Saints Church, where Agatha Christie was baptised, or maybe get down to the Royal Terrace Gardens to explore some beautifully sculpted parklands and the lush scenery. For a night out, the nearby Babbacombe Theatre wows audiences with top-notch, professional productions, comedy, and children's shows.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jenni-emily - Verified booking

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Sienna Cottage.

It provided a great, comfortable base for our holiday and we would reccommend to others and return ourselves. The sofa was particularly nice, very comfy and the beds and mattresses were comfy too which is great. Its in the perfect location for exploring the English Riviera and South West Coast Path and although is in a busily area inside the cottage is peaceful and quiet. The added benefit of off road parking was welcome, especially due to the road being very narrow and often tricky to navigate due to all the other parked cars and potholes. However we did find that it lacked a few essentials and other things that we would usually expect to find in a cottage of this calibre and price point. Essentials wise, the grill pan was missing its handle which is a H&S issue, there was no hand soap provided in the bathroom or kitchen and no cleaning stuff or bin bags in the kitchen to keep it clean during our stay - we would not usually expect to have to provide these things ourselves. When arriving there was only half a roll of toilet paper in each toilet, quite a measly offering. The cleanliness of the main bathroom could have been better, we found the bath plug hole blocked up with a huge matt of hair and grime which was unpleasant to remove but necessary as the bath wasnt draining properly and the handles on the bathroom drawers were dirty and flaky. The cottage was otherwise very clean and presentable. The heating was set very high and came on by itself during the night and the instructions to operate the temperature were not obvious. The front window in the master bedroom did not shut properly meaning a lot of noise was let in at night. Finally, the welcome book gives no where near enough information on things like refuse/recycling expectations, the state in which you expect us to leave the cottage (where to leave towels & linen ect) it was very very minimal and could really benefit from an update. Additionally, a couple of things that would be appreciated/nice to have and would vastly improve the comfort of a stay at the cottage: Curtains in the bedroom: although the wooden blinds look great, they do not block out any light and also offer no heat or sound insulation. We found ourselves being woken early by the light coming in and often by noises coming through. Curtains would have been very much appreciated and would fix this issue. A shoe rack in the hall would be great, there is space for a good sized one behind the front door and would help to keep the hall tidy during a stay. A key ring on the key would be really helpful, as would a second key. There were times when we really could have done with a second key and this is something that's been available in any other place weve stayed. There was no lock on the gates as is advised on the listing. It would be great if some of these comments could be taken into consideration. Nothing said above is meant as criticism, all just feedback on things that either really do need addressing or would be beneficial to add/improve.

There were a few faults with the property the first being the sofa it was so uncomfortable to sit on and its definitely due an upgrade.

When hanging a towel on a hand rail in the main bedroom’s bathroom one side of the towel rail fell off as it wasn't attached. The bathroom itself need an extractor fan as there seems to be a build up of condensation, slight damp which shows the cracks that are appearing on the ceiling. The fan lights in both bedrooms need to be replaced or maybe firmly attached to the ceiling as they move and spin erratically which didn't seem safe to leave on. We also had to reattach the fan pull chain as it came off when turning the fan off. The main dinning table was very unstable so we had to wedge some cardboard under the leg so it was sturdy to eat on. I think the main thing for us personally was not being able to close the curtains it was far to bright in the rooms however the blinds served a good purpose for privacy but come early morning when the light broke through we were woken earlier than expected. However there was positives to property to it was very clean baring the smell of dog odour in the lounge area (which us to be expected being a dog friendly accommodation) we had access to all of the amenities to cook, clean and wash our clothes if need be with a wide selection of kitchen utensils. The beds were comfortable, The property itself was spacious well decorated and it did feel homely. On a bonus the property its situated in the perfect location to Torquay town centre which is within walking distance and if you find those stairs which leads down to the middle of town centre it will shorten your journey considerably. Overall the holiday experience was a pleasant one and minor the the few things I stated above. i would recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to be located in the perfect spot to have the peace and quiet during the night or day with many destinations that are only a short car/train journey away.

Our stay at Bridges Cottage was quite nice.

The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard, and there is everything that you could possibly need for your stay. The cottage is very well equipped and in the perfect location, with many beautiful surrounding town and villages. If you want a peaceful break , then this is definitely the place to stay. It is very dog friendly, both in the cottage and the town. Although we loved the Cottage itself, there were 4 major negatives for us. Having problems with my right shoulder because of a previous fracture to my collarbone,I found it quite difficult to get in and out of the bed. This is because of how the bed is situated, right up against the wall and window, with no gap to walk down. Also the shower/ bath, which i should say is really nice and looks amazing. We both found it difficult to get in and out of. It is an unusual shape and quite a deep bath. The off road parking is in a very tight space and under quite a large tree. Our car was covered with sticky sap like drops all over the car, which took me 4 hours to clean off our car when we got home. The car park space is quite a distance from the cottage, so dropping the luggage to and fro was quite tiring. Although the cottage itself is an excellent place to stay, clean and comfortable. We felt that there are too many negative points for us to go there again. This is a shame because it was in the perfect location for us to visit the many beautiful places devon has to offer. We would like to thank the owner for the lovely cream tea which was left for us on our arrival.

The house was great and ideally situated to visit the local area.

However, in the description it says off road parking for 2 cars. From this, and the photos I assumed I would be able to park on the property. This was basically impossible. The property is situated on a private road / lane. Many residents park in this narrow road which caused a problem when trying to get into the gate. Eventually after much shunting I got my Ford Kuga down the side of the property with minimal clearance each side of the car. However, I could only get the car into the property in reverse due to the difficult access. By reversing all the way to the bottom my passengers could exit the vehicle, but I couldn't. We also couldn't open the hatchback. I had to drive back out of the gate and park outside on the road. Unfortunately the adjacent neighbour had a motorbike and a car parked outside their house and part of our house. I had to park across the gateway. This then made it difficult for the neighbour opposite to exit his drive. So I think the listing description needs to make it clear that parking is outside the property in the lane / road. It in fact does state this in the file of information inside the property. As I've already said though the house was fine. Maybe a more comprehensive information file? The only technical info in there was for the heating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

The location was ideal, plenty of shops nearby. Easy access to bus stops for heading into Torquay and other popular places nearby. Cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen as well as a handy washing machine in the utility room. Lovely snug room with sofa and tv.(slightly high on the wall for size of room) Lovely modern bathroom with plenty of room.Great quality towels provided. Bedroom was big enough and provided storage for all our clothes including hanging space. Lovely comfy bed. Nice fresh clean carpet in several areas. However we did both notice coming down the stairs that there were several carpet grippers poking through on the upright part of a few stairs which we did both catch our heals on unfortunately but it’s something that can easily be resolved.A cosy little outdoor area with bistro set overlooking bigger garden next door with friendly neighbours. Had to be very careful with one of the seats tho as the metal is quite rusty and has started to break up leaving a sharp edge. We managed using a cushion to sit on but just thought it best to mention. Lovely gesture providing us with milk, scones, jam and clotted cream on arrival, they were delicious and we’re now addicted to clotted cream even now we’re back home
