Property was filthy on arrival, decking covered in mud, bird feeders empty and mouldy shame when you have a lovely lodge next door to it with plenty of nice birds and bird feeders.

Owners leave no number in lodge to contact them and also don't respond to sykes when contacted. Inside the lodge the couch (recliner) does not work or even have a plug to plug in wall. Says on welcome pack press button put your feet up and relax but buttons do nothing and couch is very uncomfortable. Next up the smell that hit us when we walked in (very foisty mouldy smell) could of been from a few things the mould growing above kettle, from the broken bin which from other reviews hadn't been fixed or replaced this was absolutely revolting around the broken bin lid had dirt which we had to clean ourselves or it could of been the mouldy bird feeders out back. I can see why no photos of balcony and around are on sykes as it is very unpleasant to look at. Now the major part we got the fire going only to realise a crack and stop fire immediately looked everywhere in lodge for a contact number nothing but a number for sykes tried phoning that but at 7ockock at night no one at the office so had to phone the next day all while the heating would not heat up the lodge as we had to air the foisty smell out on arrival and due to the radiator not putting much heat out and being covered in dust also doors not closing properly leaving gaps and breezes coming through we we're sitting in jumpers coats and dressing gowns. Got in touch with sykes the next day to be told they couldn't get hold of owners couple hours later told that owners were sending someone to have a look to our surprise after a couple hours we have a phonecall to say not to use the fire and they won't be fixing it. As we booked the lodge for the log burner this was no longer worth staying as it was the middle of a storm and after 2 nights we decided to leave as the temperature was dropping down to -4 that night. Other things we found were mouldy sealant around sink flies all over window cill fluff or hair left on floor blind fixings broken and hanging off walls. Blinds didn't shut properly leaving you without privacy, wall piece in bathroom very run down tatty and filthy. All of this was bad enough on new years eve but to then get home after filing a complaint to receive a good will gesture of Â£25 from the lodge owners is quite frankly appalling. From not accepting that insulting offer of compensation to not respond for a further 23 days and counting is something I've never experienced and feel extremely let down all in all definitely would not recommend as we have booked plenty of sykes holidays in the past and every time they have been lovely clean immaculate places

We loved our stay at Shepherds Lodge.

The directions to the lodge were easy to follow and we found it no prob at all. It was good to be able to go direct to the property and get the key without having a stand in a queue to check in. It would have been nice to have been able to check in a little earlier though. Inside the lodge was exactly as the photos had shown and we couldn't really want for anything more stocked in the kitchen. The living room area was clean and comfortable and bright. The only issue we had was in the bedroom, the mattress we found a little hard, in fact I ended up on the settee. The bathroom was lovely, maybe an extra toilet roll would be good as we ran out on the last day due to there not being much on the rolls but honestly that is the only thing I can say negative. The best part for us was the hot tub, we hadn't been in a hot tub prior to the lodge and weren't sure what to expect. But, the water was a lovely temperature when we got there so we unpacked and jumped straight in. We have a couple of points regarding the privacy though. The cabin attached and the two further down can see the hot tub no problem if they walked by and the cabin next door, if they didn't have their blind closed they would have been looking directly at us so a bit more screening would have been nice. We reversed the car up the drive for extra cover. The second point is maybe a covering would be good, lots of bits of tree were falling into the water so a bit of time was spent removing these not relaxing. It was a bit disappointing to have to be out at 9am. We would recommend this lodge.

We unfortunately arrived late in the evening due to traffic.

On our arrival, the Cabin took us some time to find (Shepherds Lodge). The Semi detached Cabin adjoined to ours (which was empty) had outside lighting on in advance, where as ours did not, so was very difficult in the dark not only to locate and find, but even to carefully maneuver without tripping over. When we turned on the outside lights, we noticed rubbish bags strewn near the Key box, which in our opinion was not good, considering we checked in at 10pm and you had the whole day to organise. The facilities inside the Cabin were good and helpful. The Jacuzzi on first use had a strange smell to it and water was only semi clear. When we went to use it the next day, the water was literally like a swamp look at 2pm. We were hoping after going out for the day on our return the cleaner would have this resolved. However, on our return at 6pm, we noticed it was far worse and had an awful pungent smell which caused us to retch. We phoned to complain and a guy came out approximately 6:30pm and finished emptying and restoring it with clean water. The job was completed by 9pm, bearing in mind this was our last night. We have video and photo footage showing the above. Not at all impressed. Steve and Jeanette.

Its natural beauty, impeccable service, and attention to detail make it an oasis of serenity that will leave you rejuvenated and longing to return. Our stay was truly a 5-star experience, and I cannot recommend it enough. We will be booking for 2024.

)I donât think it was worth the price!

2) the bed was too soft ( But thatâs just a personal preference) the big problem was how it was on wheels and on a smooth surface it just wouldnât stay still which was quite dangerous!! EG every time you leaned on it. It would move and twice the wheel was near my bear feet!! The first time really hurt the second time I was able to move quickly. 3) For Â£450 for one night I really think it quite a cheek to only be able to book in at 17.00 and have to leave at 9.00 in the morning?? But thatâs my own fault because it was clearly explained that was the case on booking. 4) Again to stay in a one bedroom lodge for one night at the price of Â£450 and only book in from 17.00 and have to leave the following morning at 9.00 you really would expect maybe a little larger Hot tub?? Or if not it must have some kind of shelter over it?? Even a large retractable umbrella or something to protect you from the sun, Wind and Rain?? But despite my own personal issues it was very nice and i would recommend this to anyone!! We had a great time! But I am very entertaining so of course we had a good time.
