What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Henderson - Verified booking

Fantastic cabin just as it looks on images. Could look at the view for hours. The outdoor area is perfect with space for eating, relaxing and of course the jacuzzi and barbecue hut. Inside the living area is ideal for a family holiday with plenty of comfy seats and a well equipped kitchen. Off this area the bedrooms are large with comfortable beds and there are two bathrooms with powerful showers, with plenty of hot water available after long walks. Alton itself has petrol station, Spar and Co Op, plus nice pubs and a few little shops. We went on the South Tynedale railway and walked to the nearby Roman fort. Also had good local walks to Long Meg and her daughters, and to Ashgill Force, plus visits to Hadrians wall (two of our party walked the entire path), Hexham, Corbridge and Penrith. The weather forecast for the local area is misleading. It often was forecast for worse weather than actually came. The predictions were rain all week but then improving as we got to each day. In fact it was warm and dry most of the time. The owners were very friendly and helpful, popping over just as we arrived from their nearby farmhouse. Thank you so much for building this fantastic piece of paradise and allowing us to share it.

A single-storey house in a delightful setting, MHL was comfortable and clean and well-equipped for our holiday needs. Bountiful hot water in the property and despite a 'chilly' July week the underfloor heating made it super-comfortable for sitting around in our PJs of an evening. We always enjoy a hot-tub and it worked perfectly during our stay. What a view! The journeys to Keswick, Penrith and Grizedale to the west and to Durham and Gateshead to the east were each around an hour (or less). Not fast but straightforward and lovely scenery. We had a great (and warm and sunny!) day out traversing up and down the valley to see Aira Force (two waterfalls and lots of fast-moving water between...well worth a visit, though we found the best location to park was the car park opposite to the Aira High Force fall. A thoroughly relaxing and lazy week of sitting around and pottering in the general near-area.

We visited with friends this weekend and it will be hard to leave. The property is very well equipped and location on top of the world is a great description. We arrived on the Friday night after a hectic week at work and immediately felt at home. Hot tub just finished the day off and totally relaxed us all for a very comfortable nights sleep in four beautiful bedrooms with very comfortable beds. A short walk into the village on Saturday with some lovely little shops and a selection of different walks for all abilities in the area. This truly is the most relaxing place to come and I will definitely be booking it again soon for trips with other friends as well as the group this weekend who will make this a regular trip to wind down. Thank you to the lovely owners who made us so welcome and have made a beautiful experience for others.

Fabulous lodge, wonderful views and well equipped with comfortable beds. Ground source heating was lovely with underfloor heating. Didn’t need fire in October. Went to Michelin star restaurant (Kirk style inn in Slaggyford). Great taxi service from local guy. Train ride on the steam train was fun. Visited Hexam for some shopping but mainly lots of good food and hot tub action. Dogs were welcome. It is sheep country but there was a lovely walk by the river which is well fenced for off lead. Chris and Marion were friendly hosts but unobtrusive. The local spar is quite big and their butchery is very good. BBQ hut was fun. We also used outdoor fire in the evening as the weather was on our side too. All in all a wonderful place.

The lodge is amazing. There was plenty of room for 6 of us. The views are stunning and the bbq hut and hot tub are a really good feature. It was well equipped and had everything we needed in the kitchen. Lovely and warm and the water for showers was always nice and hot. There were plenty of pubs and walks nearby. The only issue we could see was the walk back up to the lodge from the road is very steep and we found it hard work, so I can imagine it would prove extremely difficult for someone with mobility issues or who wasn't quite as fit. Plenty of space for the dogs to run around. Overall it is a beautiful place to come for a relaxing break, it really is a gem of a lodge. We will definitely want to visit again.
