What our customers say about their holidays

    • Glenis - Verified booking

We spent 6 wonderful nights at Greengarth Lodge over Xmas.

The property had recently been completely renovated with an ensuite walk-in shower room to the main bedroom and a separate bathroom with overhead shower for the 2 other generous sized bedrooms. As I like to cook, the fitted kitchen was a bonus! It was well-stocked with everything you would need in terms of glassware, dinnerware, cutlery and cooking equipment, plus some basic staple foodstuff. I loved the Bora induction hob and the split level Neff oven. Being Xmas week it was to nice to find a substantial sized fridge/freezer as well as a wine fridge. The area was open plan, bright, and felt very sociable. There was even a well-equipped utility room with an extra sink, individual washer and dryer. Every single room and space was so well thought out with no shortage of storage space. The property was powered by an air source heat pump for the underfloor heating and solar panels on the roof. It had also been refurbished with porcelain tiling through-out, and being a lodge we were concerned it may have not been warm enough. Far from it, the lodge was exceedingly cosy. We walked around in bare or stocking feet the whole time. My only request to the owner would be brighter lighting in the rear 'quarry' bedroom! The views from the large picture windows across Glendowlin valley were a delight. We'd definitely recommend Greengarth Lodge to our friends and family. A nice touch was the sparkling wine left for us by the owners.

The cabin appeared to be finished with no expense spared.

Everything there was high quality and it wasn’t difficult to notice. Underfloor heating was amazing, brilliant cooking facilities along with pots and pans, beautiful cutlery and crockery. The view was stunning and the extra effort to make a viewing area was well worth it. The mattress was comfy and all the bedding, towels and robes were immaculately clean. Everything was. Nice big TV for the evening after a dip in the hot tub and plastic wine glasses so they don’t t get broken out in said hot tub. Genius! Extraordinary value for money, we will be back I am sure. My only small piece of feedback for this cabin is the privacy of the hot tub. Although it is well tucked away, if someone is in the cabin next door (as they were while we were there), they can easily walk past and see straight into the hot tub. Easily fixed with a screen or gate. Other than that, the place was amazing. One other thing, more to do with the website I used I suspect, but the cabins are quite close to the main road. Excellent for accessibility but just a tad noisy on a morning with trucks driving up and down. Not that it impacted our stay, just that the map shows, I think, the cottages location and not the cabins. Thanks for the great weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

      The stay was fantastic.

There's was plenty of little extras that go beyond an expectation of a holiday. They left us yummy treats including thoughtful treats for a birthday. The owners are very friendly and helpful they don't mind going out the way of what you need and offer what they think could be helpful. They offered us lifts as we didnt drive and offered advice on the walks and places nearby. The place itself has a beautiful view this cabin in particular had the nest of a view and was the more secluded one. It's also fairly quiet for being near a main road. And the cabin is very cozy and the hot tub experience is also a worth while one. We even had wildlife join us by the hot tub. And once the wood has burned down the heat in the hot tub is unreal and stays for a very long time so it definitely worth the wait. Pretty much if your looking for peace and quiet or your a outdoorsy person this is a good place to pick. We stayed for a week and never became fed up of any of it and still didn't want to leave. Hutton John is definitely going to be top of our list when we want some child free time and a romantic time away.

The cabin is clean, modern and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need.

I absolutely loved the bed and had the best nights sleep! The cabin can get warm quite quick so we turned the heating as low as it would go. We were looking for somewhere secluded so we could take our dog and this place was perfect, although there are 3 other cabins near by, we didn't see anyone and felt like it was just us there, which is what we wanted. We had a little walk around to the nearest village where there is a pub but it didnt open until 5pm on a Tuesday (the day we went haha) and 12 every other day. The village and pub are very picturesque. We drove into Pooley bridge which is only 10 minutes away and then Keswick the following day, which is only 20 minutes away, both great locations for walks, scenery, pubs and shops. It was our first time using a fire burning hot tub, we read the book which is very helpful and we managed to get the hot tub hot and ready in 2 hours and it remained hot for quite a long time which was great! Would highly recommend this cabin if you want an escape away.

Firstly when you find the place, what can only be described as offload is the only entrance in or out so be aware if you have a low car or low profile tyres.

When we got there the lodge is in garden next to a wall with residential homes directly over the wall. Inside us big enough 2 bedrooms are decent sizes. I didn't feel the place was clean enough windows are filthy with old bird poo crust in. Bathroom fan is extremely loud , the toilet seat is loose and no lock on the door. Unfortunately when we finished ironing one day the socket came straight out the wall this caused a mild shock. Another safety concern was the ramp access, this has very slim anti slip strips that have expired and when wet is very dangerous. And finally got charged £150 for paw prints and what looked like a stain spilled tea? Could have been there already.. I wouldn't recommend taking a dog for this reason and also very dangerous access road . Never stayed the full 4 nights left a day early. Very very disappointing especially after saving and now £160 taken straight off a card and into overdraft. Worse holiday ever
