What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Lawrence - Verified booking

We had a perfect week at Oak Lodge Cottage. The location is stunning, with the beck and river views up the valley. The garden is gorgeous, the perfect size and proportion, with pretty pots and shrubs and privacy for watching passers by whilst not being watched!, great for sitting out with morning coffee or evening tipple, it gets the sun for most of the day. The cottage is very well equipped and extremely comfortable and clean. It was cosy in the evening and when the sun was setting the best view of Tarn Crag can be had from the picnic table in the field which also belongs to the cottage. It is a mere 15 minute walk into town and it is possible to do many wonderful fell walks, challenging and not so, imediately out of the garden gate. The week we stayed in June we had beautiful weather and spent almost all our time outside. There are a number of good pubs, many nice eateries and the Co op will provide all essentials for self catering. We loved using all the facilities in the very well equipped kitchen. This is the most lovely spot for a holiday and we can't wait to come back. Lovely friendly host too in Alison who offered to be on hand if we needed her. We would highly recommend Oak Lodge Cottage as a great destination for nature lovers and walkers.....thank you

Oak Lodge is a lovely peaceful quiet cosy cottage beautifully situated with magical views out towards Sour Milk Ghyll. We loved our stay here, felt totally at home and enjoyed using the well-equipped kitchen for self-catering. There are wonderful walks right from the doorstep and Grasmere is a lovely village and base perfectly placed for exploring further afield. The cottage was perfect for us being all on one level inside (with just a couple of steps from the front door). One of the things we loved most was watching the wonderful array of birds who came and visited the feeders, and of course the red squirrels. Seeing two chasing each other around the tree was a real highlight. Definitely worth taking a pair of binoculars - so much to observe. Thanks also to Alison who is on site and a friendly helpful host should you need to pick her brains about cats, alternative routes to Easedale Tarn when the path is flooded, and other random queries.

Perfectly clean--not a single glass or piece of cutlery was dirty or even had fingerprints. Really appreciated the additional touches, such as adequate cleaning items, foil, extra garbage bags. We can't say enough about the cottage and location. We didn't move our car for 3 days because there were so many good hikes in the area. Absolutely fantastic. Alison was helpful and friendly. We couldn't have been more pleased! We found Grasmere to be the perfect place to stay for hiking in the Lake District. Centrally located so you don't need to drive much (or search for parking). A much quieter town that Ambleside or Windermere.

The location was superb, fantastic views across the fields towards the fells. Also the sparkling stream just over the road was a delight to see from the front windows. Good quality bedding and soft fluffy towels were especially appreciated. The cottage was clean and the standard of kitchen utensils and equipment were of a high standard. The owner was pleasant and welcomed us in a friendly manner, even providing us with fresh milk. We were able to make a drink immediately on arrival because there was a supply of tea, coffee and sugar available in the kitchen.

The cottage was absolutely perfect, we couldn't have asked for more. Beautiful building, lovely garden with seating, spectacular views, good sized rooms and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Alison was so lovely and helpful. Amazing walks right from the front door and a short walk to Grasmere village with plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and a very handy Co-op for essentials. We didn't want to leave!
