What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay at Ash cottage and for a change the weather in Cornwall stayed dry for almost the whole week!

The host Phil was very welcoming and his communications prior to the visit were very good. The cottage is in a good location for touring the area although the nearest pub, The Crown at St. Ewe is only 1.6 miles away (not the Kings Arms in Tregony that you say is the nearest and is 3 miles away) but is a good trek along narrow lanes with some steep climbs! Still the food was excellent and the staff very good. The cottage was well decorated with nice views over fields which is helped by the reverse build whereby the kitchen and lounge is on the first floor. The comments below may seem “picky” but as seasoned holidaymakers staying in cottages a few times a year we think they should be addressed. We were very surprised that there was no welcome file with instructions on local amenities, recommended eating places, bus timetables, maps, contact numbers for vets, out of hours doctors etc. we’ve never stayed in a cottage that didn’t have this information. I found a plastic bag in a kitchen drawer with appliance instructions but there was nothing for the dishwasher (it wasn’t that difficult to operate but some people would struggle). There weren’t any dishwasher tablets (very unusual) and when I asked, I was told there wouldn’t be any supplied unless the previous visitors had left any! Also, and this was annoying, there was only one pedal bin bag and that was in the pedal bin. We always take a roll just in case but as the bin was quite large they didn’t fit very well and I was not going to buy a roll for something that I wouldn’t use again. The kitchen was generally well stocked but some scissors would have been useful for opening food packages etc. and another medium sized pan (preferably non-stick) would have been good as there was only a very small pan and two much larger pans available. We couldn’t find the iron (the ironing board was in the cupboard below stairs) but on the last day we discovered it in the cupboard above the cooker. I must also pass comment on the sliding door to the main bedroom en-suite, it was suspended on a horizontal rail and was very difficult to operate, my wife is no weakling and she couldn’t operate it at all! Finally, the garden had a wooden bench and picnic table but the latter had never been treated so the wood was very rough and you would not want to sit on it in good clothes. Overall the above didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the cottage but if it wasn’t for these I would have given it 5 stars.

The Smithy is a beautiful property in a great location call Feock which has great access by car to the far reaches of Cornwall and places we've never visited before. The property itself is easy to find and plenty of parking outside including a EV charging point which was extremely handy to charge my Volkswagen ID.7 overnight and prepared it for the next day adventures. The accommodation has everything you need including a full equipment kitchen and Neff appliances. As the nights were chilly during our stay the Hive controlled heating system was extremely useful and the wood burner was the icing on the cake. The Smithy is beautifully decorated and owner Marion's attention to details is amazing and it feels very homely. The bed was comfortable and firm and the duvet was like sleeping under a cloud. The sauna is brilliant and perfect after a long day. Bathrobes and slippers provided added to the boutique luxury feeling. Behind the property is a field and then unadulterated views of the rolling countryside and as there is little light pollution the night sky is so beautiful to see. Marion was always on hand during our stay by phone/text and you could tell that she's really cares about The Smithy and the guests experience. I highly recommend staying and will be returning as we loved it so much.

This has been the best holiday accommodation I have ever stayed in.

I had moved to Cornwall with work but not sold my own house and so decided to stay here in the interim. And honestly, it has proven to be the best decision i ever made. The first thing to note is that the owners are incredibly kind and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. They are both so attentove and whilst we didnt experience any issues during our stay, it was such a comfort to know that they were at the end of a phone call. In this house, you'll awake to the sound of birdsong every morning, and the neighbours are really lovely. If youre lucky enough to stay here for New Years Eve, the view of the fireworks over Truro is perfect! The attention to detail within this property is exemplary, with plenty of books, games and films for those evenings in. The kitchen has all the utensils you could need and plenty more! It really is the perfect central location for exploring the whole of Cornwall. This property and meeting Marie and Andrew was the best introduction to life in Cornwall that I could have wished for. And their kindness will stay with me for a very long time. When we have family and friends visit, we will certainly be recomending that they stay here. Thank you.

We had a great stay, the property was extremely clean and tidy.

Well organised key collection and all in all it was an easy and lovely place to stay. In the middle of all the attractions, however, far enough away for it to not feel touristy. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could need and more. It was an outstanding property. We even had a text from the owners checking in which was a lovely touch, thank you! The only tips I would give would be; to make the garden area nicer for guests to spent time in, a washing line to hang towels and swim wear, Option for bed guards for the single beds as they were exceptionally high for our two children. And the mattress on the king size bed could really do with being replaced for a firmer mattress. Thank you for a great holiday to Cornwall and the added welcome hamper

On booking the cottage we were excited by the prospect of staying in such a lovely place but we were also prepared to be disappointed.

However the reality was that cottage was fabulous and actually delivered more than our imaginings. I particularly loved that the living spaces were upstairs, with views over the valley. The double height entrance hall added to its luxury and roominess. With regards to the furniture fittings, I kept trying to think of things that were missing from the place but it seemed to have everything, down to a food-mixer and all the things you might want if making a cake! A bathroom and room. A shower with power and instant hot water. The place was very warm, incredibly well insulated and a great place to be in all seasons. We would of loved to have stayed longer, the holiday flew by all too quickly...due greatly, I believe to the cottage being so comfortable.
