What our customers say about their holidays

    • Laurie - Verified booking

      Absolutely amazing.

We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

The property is picture perfect and the garden amazing .

The welcome pack of cream tea ,biscuits and milk was much appreciated. You need to take everything with you food wise though , even basics like salt and pepper, as none are provided. There are plenty of cleaning products but you do need to take tea towels. The internal of the property is disappointing as it is very tired and desperately needs updating. The property was clean and the towels were soft and sumptuous. The bedding was a little worn but clean. The bed is quite small , only a double, there is plenty of room for a king, which would be a nice addition. The furniture throughout the property is basic, though the sofas very comfy. The old bath is unusable as the enamel coating has flaked off in areas , which leaves it unhygienic. The attached shower head leaks terribly which affects the power of the water , so a shower is slow and tedious, there was plenty of hot water. The kitchen cabinets are very dated and worn there was a lot of water damage around the sink area.and it was impossible to remove the damp smell from the kitchen. The log burner was not usable and was declared as dangerous, the room heaters were very old but worked and were needed in the evenings , as though there was plenty of sunshine the easterly wind was very cold. We did have a fab holiday, and enjoyed the 2 beaches, which are very close to the property, we also enjoyed the local coastal walks .

We had a great holiday as a family of 8, including 3 children.

The location and the nearby coves were great. We hired a rowing boat and canoe from St Anthony Sailaway, which was also great. However, we paid a significant amount for the house and some of the facilities were not up to standard; part of the frustration with this, is they are all easy to fix. The majority of visitors are making similar comments to this in the visitors' book. This is just no good enough and you really need to get this property up to standard. 1. The fridge freezer is nowhere near big enough for a house sleeping 8 people - just get a bigger one and a separate freezer downstairs. 2. It sleeps 8 and there are only 6 tumblers! 3. No beer glasses 4. No childrens cups, plates and kfs. A property sleeping 8 will almost always be taken by families!! 5. One window in the middle bedroom has no curtain!! 6. The bath towels are too small. 7. As this is a beach holiday cottage, it needs an outdoor tap in the paved area alongside the drive so sandy children and adults off the beach can wash down. 8. The outdoor hanging area next door to the drive is nowhere near big enough for 8 people's swimming stuff and wetsuits; and by this I mean the washline and the cover above it to keep the rain off the drying clothes. Add some hooks to hang wetsuit hangers from. You are welcome to publish this feedback - but I do understand if you don't ... just fix it!

As a family, we loved Dovefields.

The house and views are amazing. It is well off the beaten track, takes about 30 mins to drive from Helston despite only being about 11 miles… due to the small twisting single track road but this should be considered a bonus really as there is almost no other holiday makers on the beaches of Flushing Cove and neighbouring cove of Gillan. Even in height of the holiday season, there was only 2 other families so you basically get the beach to yourself! Absolutely perfect for learning to use our new paddle boards. Very sheltered cove so no waves to catch but mirror smooth water so ideal for us and our little ones. Highly recommend kayaking or SUP for this stretch of the coast. The cliffs, coves and caves are amazing and with crystal clear water, A joy to see. Good snorkel territory too. I imagine the fishing is good here too, every evening foot long fish jumping out of the water as I paddle board between the moored boats, its teeming with life to be sure with large crabs, lobsters, hundreds of fish, jelly fish, all easily viewable for my SUP just 10-15m from the shore. We can’t wait to return, highly recommend and our all time fav location…. And we have been visiting Cornwall for years (we have family there). You will love it.

This was a special holiday after my husbands cancer diagnosis and treatment.

I wanted it to be wonderful and whilst the location and garden were fabulous- the house was not to the standard we’ve had with other properties of the same cost. There was a hole in the roof of the one bedroom, tiles off the toilet in the downstairs loo, spiders everywhere (phobia of mine), a doormat that was in pieces. The windows that should have given a fabulous view were also in need of a good clean. The outdoor furniture had bird poo and stuff from the roof that had fallen over it. There were no suitable cleaning products so I had to make do. I do think the property was cleaner when we left! There were mysteriously two kitchen tea towels soaked hanging out of the kitchen window when we arrived. I have pictures should you need them. As I said, this was our first holiday after the cancer diagnosis and treatment so cleanliness was a concern, but I wanted it to be relaxing for my husband so starting by cleaning garden furniture was not a great start to the holiday. That said the location is incredible but we don’t feel we had value for money with this property I’m afraid.
