What our customers say about their holidays

For a dog owner, the cottage is in the perfect location.

It is easy to walk out onto Burbage Moor without crossing a single road, just up the garden and over the stile, through the woodland and you're there. In fact, walking out to the NT Cafe a couple of miles away only requires two road crossings! The garden is quite dog-safe although I daresay a medium sized dog could jump the wall if it put its mind to it. The cottage is a good size, the bathroom, sitting room and main bedroom are huge. The second bedroom is adequate and the kitchen, whilst compact, was big enough for our requirements. The cottage has a superb heating system and holds the heat well, despite the stone floor. Contrary to the published information, there is a dishwasher in the kitchen. There is also a washing machine, but it is in an outhouse which, frankly, was disgustingly dirty. We decided against using it! Our visit was November so we didn't take advantage of the small courtyard where there is a table and chairs but I imagine that would be pleasant although I doubt it gets much sun. The windows all have secondary glazing so road noise wasn't a problem for us. There is a pub literally five minutes away which is excellent. Hathersage is about a mile (downhill) which is fine going down... I'd be happy to stay there again so am also happy to recommend it.

Claire Cottage is an ideal cottage for the winter .

We found it always warm and comfortable during the day and night . The cottage is fitted out perfectly and nothing has been forgotten. The 2 bedrooms have plenty of storage space for clothes and the beds very comfortable . Each bedroom has a bathroom which is very useful . The living room has a comfortable 3 piece suite and a giant TV with all the required apps . The kitchen diner has a warm feel to it and we had a few meals and drinks in it . It also has patio doors leading to a small courtyard. We did not sit out as it was to cold but I bet it is lovely in the summer. The front door leads to a fenced garden which our doggo loved doing zoomies in . Beyond is a large field which belongs to cottage owners also useful for dog walking . I cannot find any faults with this cottage . We have stayed in a few Sykes Cottages now and this the best so far.

The cottage was lovely and clean when we arrived.

It was also lovely and warm, starter pack of logs, matches and firelighters, great to be able to light the woodburner straight away as it was very cold weather. The cottage sits between 2 roads but luckily the traffic is very light/ nothing overnight. You can hear the traffic closing the wooden shutters at night helps reduce noise. Unfortunately the boiler makes rather a lot of noise which you hear overnight in the little bedroom ( we turned the thermostat right down so the heating wasn't on but boiler still noisy) Cottage in great location for walking, only short drive to Edale and Mam Tor great days out walking. If your a swimmer like me the highlight is the Lido in Hathersage, kept at 23 degrees during the winter, evening swim in the dark with pretty lights around the pool is magical

This property is in an outstanding location.

Stunning views and accessible to so many towns and villages and lovely walks. The sofas were comfy as was the main bedroom bed. Cows arrived every evening at the lounge window and were lovely. The property is down a steep track which would be a challenge for older people or pushchairs. The property could do with a bit of tlc we felt .. peeling paint outside, and dirty windows gave it a bit of a tired feel. The pots and pans needed a good wash before we used them and there were dog hairs in the oven. We spent a while cleaning cobwebs from every room. We noticed that this had been commented on previously. Bedroom two and three .. beds .. one had broken slats and one squeaked badly. With a bit of care and attention to details this could be a really stunning place.

Undeniably the best self catering accomodation we have ever visited.

There were a lot of possibilities for problems as we were there with my 89 year old mum who does have severe arthritis and struggles with quite a few day to day tasks, Every single thing that could go wrong went right in a big way. Super clean but not off putting, super presented it felt like home. Lovely location but not too out of the way, Lots to see and do in the area and we were able to handle the hottest days in 2022 heatwave successfully as on the very hottest day we were comfortable staying in a home from home relaxing and doing our own thing. Welcome back on arrival was stunning (and delicious) So many positives and we can't wait to go back !
