What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rachael - Verified booking

This was a lovely location with sea views from the bedrooms upstairs and from the front of the house.

The walk down to the beach from the house is lovely and the sea can be seen from the start of the walk down. There are the inevitable potholes in the road of the property so walking up and down in sliders is not ideal as my son tripped and stubbed his toe and we dealt with a first aid incident enroute. Most of the local villagers are welcoming to tourists, and the area is very picturesque with stunning views. The walk from the beach up to house can be a bit of a killer if you struggle with mobility and fitness but as the week went by it become easier. There is the option to drive down to the beach car park. The village farm shop is great and is well stocked. The beach store is great with everything you need and the staff are very helpful. We enjoyed the live music from the beach bar some evenings. The house is very spacious and the garden is lovely. Lovely pictures on the wall with photos of the owners children to make it have a homely feel. The garden furniture is rickety and could do with updating or refurbishing. Lots of apples to pick at the back end of the season if you wanted to bake with or just eat. We liked the idea of the separate lounge to chill in and play games during the evenings. The utility is great and spacious with a shower to throw the kids in before sand got to the rest of the house. There is a hose by the utility door to hose down with. We used the washing machine and tumble dryer. The heating and hot water system is great. We were never cold and always had plenty of hot water. There were plenty of bathrooms and as a family of six we didn’t have anyone knocking impatiently on the bathrooms doors to hurry up. There were lots of crockery to choose from. Only thing was there weren’t enough little pans and it was excessive to use a huge pan for a tin of beans. Lots of things left for us to use on the beach should we wish to, for example, a couple of body boards, camping chairs, buckets and spades. We left a couple of things for others too. I would agree with some of the points raised in the previous reviews - I had no idea about the bin collections (when it was etc) and recycling systems so ended up just putting almost everything in the black bin. The doors to the patio door have been fixed and now there is a small cleaning starter pack left with a bin bag, one wash cloth and one dishwasher tablet. There was no toilet roll, hand wash left but we had a shopping delivery almost as soon as we arrived. There were two tea towels left but a good idea to take more. I feel the maintenance team have let the owners down to do the basics, for example; -Twin bedroom - top right window stiff and could barely open and shut - handle nearly coming off. - Right hand door on master bedroom doesn’t lock - Dining room left window won’t open (the one near the table) - Master bedroom en-suite door handle loose and needs repair - Twin bedroom wardrobe left handle door loose and come off. - Master bedroom left hand side bedside table middle drawer handle come off. - Handle on a drawer in kitchen is off and has been replaced with string to pull when you want to open the drawer. - Hole in fence down left hand side of house opposite kitchen window where a small dog could get out - Blind in the master bedroom broken (the one on the right of the two windows) - The bed slats on the master bed kept coming out easily and needed fixing in most days - A couple of the glass panels on the master bedroom balcony had slipped down. The decking on the balcony was a bit slippy. We couldn’t sit on the balcony as no furniture / seat to sit down on but lovely views to stand and see. Aside from the basic repairs, this was a lovely house that suited our family lifestyle and we would consider this house again if there was availability and the price was right.

Unfortunately on the day of our arrival, we were contacted 1 hour before arrival by the owner to notify us that the boiler was not working and there was no hot water or heating.

When we arrived, the plumber was on site and working to identify the issue. Half an hour after our arrival, a representative of Sykes contacted us to say that we would be unable to stay due to the lack of heating/hot water and he advised us not to unpack and he would provide alternative options for our seven night stay in Cornwall. A further half an hour later, three options were provided but however, none of the options were in anyway comparable in terms of location, quality or facilities of the accommodation booked. It was clear the representative had no knowledge of the details of what we had booked or comparable options. We suggested an alternative property that was comparable and the representative promised to contact the owners to try to arrange this. The owner then contacted us to state we could stay as the plumber expected to resolve the issue the next morning we could still stay once resolved and that Sykes were finding us somewhere to stay overnight. We informed them that Sykes had told us our booking had been cancelled by them and they would find us somewhere for the week. This alarmed the owner who then contacted Sykes and told us she would find alternative accommodation for the night. Two hours after our arrival we had to chase Sykes for an update on where we were to stay as we had heard no more. They told us the owner was sorting out overnight accommodation for us and that they were not able to contact the owner of the alternative suggested property. Eventually at 5:20pm the owner told us they had booked accommodation overnight at the local golf club but we had to check in within 10 minutes. We stayed overnight incurring costs for dinner and drinks. The following morning we were contacted by the plumber providing an update that an electrician was also to attend the property and asking us not to arrive before 11:30. When we arrived the electrician had identified the problem and was working to work around this to enable the boiler and heating to be started. They confirmed this was done at 12:20 at which point the house started to warm but this took approx 5 hours to become comfortable as the property had been unoccupied the previous week with no heating. During the whole morning, we had no contact from either Sykes or the owner updating us of the situation or checking on how we were, considering that we had to check out of the overnight accommodation by 10:00am. Eventually at 12:27 we received a text message from the owner advising the heating was fixed and a voicemail was left by a Sykes representative at circa 12:30 to the same effect. Clearly this whole debacle had a very negative impact to the start of our holiday as we were clearly inconvenienced, lost one day of our holiday; un-informed of the progress of the works to the boiler (apart from via us asking the plumber), incurred unexpected costs for subsistence and forced to hang around for many hours in a cold house without any update or idea of if or when we could start our holiday. There was a total lack of customer care and we will never use Sykes Holidays again and a full complaint seeking compensation will be issued as our existing request for compensation from Sykes and the owner has been turned down.

We had a lovely and comfortable stay at St Piran's. The location was perfect for us being so close to where everything is happening in Padstow. Cleanliness was good and we had everything we needed. It was a very relaxing and fairly modern property to stay in with minimal noise outside considering how close to the heart of Padstow it is plus we stayed here at peak time. I would recommend St Piran's to my friends and family for sure. As mentioned in the need-to-know section, there are several internal and external steps within and outside of the property. I think it will help guests (especially families) to know that as well as the two kitchen/dining stairs, stairs to the other 2 floors and to the outdoor terraces, there is also a very small step down into the lounge (easy to forget it is there), quite a step up into both showers and a complicated stair layout as they curve up to the first floor and across to the bathroom (a potential hazard when visiting the bathroom during the night). Had we known this, we may not have booked this accommodation as we stayed here with quite a frail family member. We knew when booking that he'd be able to manage the stairs to the first floor bedroom and up to the outdoor terrace with our help, however, we had to keep an eye on him pretty much all the time as he moved from room to room. If you are tall, which 3 of our guests were including my partner's father, the low doorways are also a potential hazard. I'm not sure where the enclosed lawned garden was that is mentioned in the description. We didn't miss it though as the weather wasn't the best for our stay. Perhaps a photo of it might help? We parked in a car park about a 10 minute walk away from the accommodation which worked well for us and we were able to park temporarily outside the house to load the car and pick up the family to go out for the day. We would stay here again for sure as it is a lovely accommodation and a fab location, however, we regret we won't be able to stay again with a frail family member.

This was a lovely spacious property with a quiet garden.

The property was a short walk from Trevone Beach and lots of other beaches were nearby. The main bedroom was beautiful with a very comfortable bed. The shower in the en-suite was very efficient. The double room had an extremely soft bed that was very uncomfortable so our son and daughter in law used one of the twin bedded rooms. With two en-suites, a bathroom and separate shower downstairs there were lots of facilities for eight adults. The kitchen was very well equipped with instructions for the cooker and appliances. The negatives were the boxes of empty bottles and plastic wrapping left by earlier occupants on the bench by the front door that gave an unattractive first impression. Perhaps some instructions about recycling and bin collections might be useful. The doors from the kitchen to the garden need realigning as they are difficult to open and the doors from the upstairs bedroom to the balcony had a broken key in the lock so would not open. As there were velux windows that opened wide and we had a lot of rain this was not a problem for us. The toilet brushes need replacing and the towels shed so much navy fluff we had to wash them and the bathroom floors. The bedding was spotless and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay in this property and would stay here again if the price stays reasonable.

Last came here 12 years ago.

Continues to be home from home in many ways. Well equipped kitchen and great utility area and lovely location. From a comfort point of view the settees weren’t great as the cushions always slide away and the master bedroom mattress was terrible- sleeping in dips. Also couldn’t run more than 1 shower at the same time as there wasn’t enough water pressure. Not great for a house of that size. We contacted the company at the start of the week about the fact that the doors into the garden were difficult to open as 1 has dropped. The key in the master bedroom doors was already broken in the lock when we got there so couldn’t open that either. The balcony and chairs were also very dirty. The master bedroom toilet kept running all night. We were told someone would come out but don’t believe anyone did so nothing got repaired. Also disappointed that there wasn’t a basic welcome package with dischcloth, washing up liquid etc. expect this when paying such a high price for a property. We’ve noticed on a previous review that the doors were mentioned as a problem so very disappointing that this hasn’t been sorted.
