We enjoyed our stay at Sea Reach and its proximity to the beach and centre of Looe. The cottage is pretty well equiped and it was a nice touch with food essentials + on arrival. It was all straight forward re getting the house keys and key for the parking space. The only negative was the cleaniliness in the kitchen/downstairs area. In a very old cottage the odd few cobwebs and dust etc is to be expected. However I had to clean cupboards in order to put our food away as they were sticky and grubby. Remains of food items left to be helpful is fine if it is within date bottles clean etc. Some of the crockery, utensils and glasses were dirty smeary and not clean. In the end I washed before using. It seems a shame that this is not dealt with as there is a dish washer. Floors again downstairs were not very clean. I understand that the cottage allows dogs but we always use a towel for the dogs as they come in after they have been out and a stone floor is really easily mopped and carpets hoovered. Upstairs was fine. The travel cot was very useful as was the high chair. We asked for a stair gate which you confirmed by email was available and in the cottage. However when we arrived this was broken and would not have fitted the bottom of the stairs in the lounge. We resorted to using a broken airer to block the stairs and stop a one year old and two dogs escaping up them!! The smoke alarm started beeping in the middle of the night and the power downstairs in the kitchen went which was tricky with making bottles for a baby. We located the fuse box the next day & informed Richard who came out. However it was not clear what had caused the problem and attempts to retify the smoke alarm did not work so in the end we took the new battery out and the beeping seemed to stop. We informed Richard as to what we had done. But obviously this is not a long term solution as there is no back up if the power goes and there is a fire. The gas had to be checked whilst we were there which Richard apologised for and I understand that these jobs have to be done. But again when everyone is in the cottage and babies need naps it is not ideal especially as no specific time was able to be given and the engineer just turned up! It is a sweet cottage in a good location it just needs a bit of tlc and care to bring it up to the standard one would expect when paying rent for a holiday. The question below re recommendation is tricky. If the areas above were dealt with then yes because its location is great but from our experience this time probably not.

We have been booking with Sykes now for a few years and every place we have stayed has been wonderful until now.
We turned up half an hour before the allotted time but it gave us the opportunity to see where the cottage was before we went for a coffee. We got out to let our dog go for a quick walk and we could see the cleaner was still in the cottage. Well I say we could see, what we heard was a small baby crying and a man shouting expletives at someone (we think maybe another child). It was horrendous. We got in the car and went into polperro. When we can back an hour later it was quite clear that whoever is the cleaner is had spent more time swearing than cleaning. The kitchen was a a disgrace and we have photos to prove this. The cooker top was smeared and not at all clean. The cooker equally so with a baking tray inside with a puddle of grease on it. The floor hadnât been mopped and there was dust on shelves and cupboards with a sticky film that had been there for some time. We had to clean the kitchen before we were happy to cook in it. Upstairs was little better as the mirrors were all smeared and looked like they had been cleaned with a dirty cloth. The tv stand downstairs was also covered in dust and every horizontal surface was dusty and not helped with the amount of nick-knacks which had also not been dusted. The front door is a stable type but the bottom was not secured with anything as the bolt had broken and one which was missing completely. It could only be held in place by the top door. The hinge on the bottom door was loose so you had to really slam it shut. My husband did find a screwdriver and fixed this. The place also suffers from damp as there appears to be little damp course outside so rain water was held in place by the decking. Every cupboard we opened smelt musty and the area by the back door also smelt damp. I did buy a plug in room freshener to at least mask the smell. Not good when you are an asthmatic. All in all we were very disappointed with Sykes on this property and it was definitely cleaner when we left than when we arrived. Another security point. The key for the property was accessed via a key safe in the garage except the cleaner hadnât bothered to even change the code when he put the key back so as soon as I opened the garage door the key fell out.

I am a ex travel agent of 18yrs & have stayed at a lot of places so this is my point of view.
One of the roads which we needed to get to the Rivercrest was closed due to a previous landslide, We were not made aware of this. The caretakers didnât explain the way to get to Rivercrest very well over the phone, it took a local man to give us fab & easy directions which we found Rivercrest straight away. Just go over the bridge to the West side take a left follow the road along the harbour turn right at the fire station which is in a square take the 3rd turning into North Rd on the right (it is very narrow be prepared to pull over & reverse back for on coming traffic) Rivercrest is up the top on the right hand side where the road forks off to the right, the sign could be bigger on the Gate. You can unload here but no parking as double yellows. You could be lucky as we were to get a space just back down the hill on the left, otherwise parking is pay & display apart from Millpool car park which you can pre book on line, this is hard to get too at the mo as the one road is closed. Pros: Fab views, great facilities in kitchen, cosy little place.prepare for a visit from the locals(seagulls) also a cute little Robin which I named Dave :-) Cons: beds are hard, had a bad back all week, bunk beds not suitable for adults as they state that they are, we had two 60yr olds on them, one kept knocking her head, not good as recovering from a bleed on the brain?! NO HAIR DRYER! This would be a nice touch. Stains on the rug in living room. Larger Tv needed due to positioning of sofas, size of the room & how high it has been put up onto the wall. Sofas not very comfy they could do with new ones. Cushions kept sliding forward on the sofa bed. The 18 steps down to the apartment are very STEEP so beware of this if thinking of booking. Downstairs garden could do with a tidy up. Freezer needs looking at as over freezing. Damp smell in the living room/kitchen area, it is coming from the boiler cupboard. Lit candles but they didnât help as the smell was bad. Apart from this we had a lovely week but just a few things need addressing. Cheers

Cottage itself was in a lovely location, pretty central for everywhere.
It had pretty much everything you could need utensil wise and everything was clean, well except the floor, I was wearing white trainer socks on arrival and when I went to take them off that night, they were filthy. I even had to clean the soles of our slippers because they were dirty when we left, and I have beige carpets at home. So not impressed with that. Also, thereâs no instructions for anything, when weâve stayed at cottages in the past, thereâs normally a book, with everything you need to know, how to work the heating, WiFi code, how to use the oven etc. took us 2 days to realise there was in fact a microwave, which, I must say, is pretty dangerous, as itâs above the oven and grill, so if your short, you either need help, or youâll wear whatever youâve heated up, not very practical. Couldnât find a washing machine either? Again, no info in cottage. The rooms are comfortable, but if youâre in the twin room, you can hear everything in the toilet. Also, I think people who had stayed previously had had dogs with them, as Iâm allergic and had a reaction as soon as I walked in. Might be worth giving the place a proper good clean and change blankets that dogs have probably sat on, especially if your next guests arenât taking dogs. Overall we had a good stay, but would we come back? For the location, definitely!
