About this property

Resting in the centre of West Looe, the quieter side of the river, and close to a host of local amenities and a glorious sandy beach is Bay Tree Cottage, a traditional and charming fisherman's cottage, ideal for a couple or small family looking for a seaside escape in this bustling fishing port. Steeped in history, the cottage is believed to have been built in the late 1800s and owned by a warrant officer in the Royal Navy, and used as a post by the Home Guard during the Second World War. Step inside the property to discover an inviting sitting room, with stunning slate flooring, a charming feature fireplace and a large sofa to rest on as you enjoy your favourite films on the Smart TV, while the arm chair is placed beside the window, offering an ideal spot to curl up with a good book as the heat of the sun washes over you. The contemporary and bright kitchen is well-equipped to enable you to cook delicious home-cooked meals, with a feature white stone wall brightening the space, ample wooden worktop space to prep ingredients and even a handy dishwasher to take care of any washing up. Enjoy meals in the dining room, which comfortably seats four, as you catch up on the day's events and make plans for the remainder of your stay. The ground-floor wet-room is tiled in sleek white and makes the space feel bright and spacious, with a walk-in shower allowing you to prepare for each day, there's even a heated towel rail for added comfort. Catch up on rest upstairs in one of two neutrally-styled, spacious bedrooms; a double bedroom with a wall-mounted TV and built in wardrobe and a good-sized twin with a TV and plenty of storage space, ideal for younger guests. Parking is available roadside on a first come, first served basis and you are just minutes' walk away from the centre of Looe and a host of amenities, restaurants, pubs and bars. Visit the Heritage Centre, housed in the former Sardine Factory, and offers a climbing wall and a café to grab a snack and a cup of coffee. Walkers will delight in exploring the nearby Kilminorth Woods, offering hiking trails along the river and the Giant's Hedge circular walk. Children will enjoy fishing at Mill Pool, which runs alongside the river and has plenty of small fish and crabs to try and find. Enjoy the picturesque outlook across the harbour, before crossing the famous seven arched bridge, or taking a river taxi across the Looe River towards the bustling East Looe, with its narrow cobbled streets and mysterious winding alleyways, as well as a stunning sandy beach adjoining the pier, popular with families due to its safe shallow water for swimming. Head to Banjo Pier, Looe's lookout point, to observe fishing boats returning to the bay, as well as being able to see out to Looe Island, which can be walked to at low tide and is a haven for a variety of wildlife. Pick up some fresh fish for dinner at the thriving fish market, stop off for a refreshing beverage at the 16th century Jolly Sailor Inn, one of Britain's oldest pubs, and pay a visit to the Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol, a small local history museum dating back hundreds of years. For an adventurous day out, head to Adrenaline Quarry for a day of rock climbing, zip lines and even deep water swimming. Venture along the Polperro Heritage Coastline, which encompasses the remarkable South West Coast Path, ideal for exploring on foot or bicycle, and explore the quaint fishing village of Polperro, with its idyllic beach, heritage museum and model village attraction, while further along the coast you will find the sheltered cove and nature reserve of the National Trust's Lantic Bay. Further afield is the market town of Liskeard, as well as the magnificent countryside of Bodmin Moor and the Tamar Valley, the inspiration of many famous literary pieces. Bay Tree Cottage is a wonderful base for a family-friendly coastal retreat to this exciting area of Cornwall.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port; split into two, the 19th century arched bridge over the river separates the bustling East Looe from the quieter West Looe. Catch a river taxi between the two to explore both areas; East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a picturesque outlook across the harbour. The sandy Looe Beach adjoins the pier and offers safe shallow swimming and a vast expanse of sand, making it popular with families.

I booked a week in June and a week in September. Beds very uncomfortable Impossible to get a decent night's sleep. Complained to Sykes who spoke to the owner and said they were new memory foam mattress simply not true . I asked if I cancelled my week in September would I get a refund and was told I wouldn't so I had to return in September nothing had changed. Still complaints in the comments book about beds . Also no curtains in main bedroom or even a blackout blind. No handrail on stairs. Wouldn't stay again and wouldn't use Sykes either as girls attitude when I complained in June was poor . Expect better for £840 a week John
