What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jennie - Verified booking

This place absolutely blew us away from the minute we opened the door we were like children running around choosing our bedrooms and jumping on the beds with excitement.

We were 2 couples 40s & 50s wanting a nice relaxing break away with the dog and that's exactly what we got. Also celebrating a big birthday made it even more special. The cottage is beautifully decorated to the very high standard , super spacious and has a real cosy, home from home feel to it. You can tell its recently been done up as everything is so fresh and new. The owner has obviously put a lot of time, thought and effort into making Skylarks the perfect holiday home. The downstairs bathroom is very stylish and the 2 bedrooms we used were comfy with plenty of hanging space which also included a dressing gown each and nice thick quality towels. The private courtyard is a perfect safe space for the dog - he loved it and even made friends with the dog next door even if it was only through the upstairs window where they would spend hours just looking at each other. The hot tub was a nice touch - me and my friend spent hours in there chatting even when it rained . Such a calm , tranquil space. If you want a nice peaceful break exploring Looe and surrounding area this cottage gives you all that and more. Dont be put off by lack of reviews. For walkers wanting to walk into Looe head for Millendreath (theres a lovely cafe on the beach) . Go to Tregoad caravan park turn right follow road. It is very up and down with steps and hills but a lovely walk. Janice the owner was very friendly and accommodating nothing was to much trouble and she was always on hand with any questions. Thank you , we had such a lovely stay . The cottage is by far the nicest place we have ever stayed. Hopefully see you again whenever that may be.

The lodge is absolutely wonderful, spacious, clean and very comfortable.

Site is lovely and secluded with great views. No phone signal at all but our lodge had good WiFi connection. Hot tub was fab! Food was great in Old Mill. Only negative would be how we were made to feel upon arrival. On all Sykes paperwork it says 3pm but the site say 4pm. We arrived about 2.30, went to reception thinking we could have a drink whilst waiting. The reception we got wasn’t great - we were told we were very early, check in was 4pm - when I explained the email said 3pm - she just said ‘well it’s wrong, it’s 4pm!’ Also, I had booked a table in the restaurant for the first evening - it had taken me three emails beforehand but had received one back saying we were booked in! The receptionist checked and said we weren’t booked in - I showed her the email, she looked again and said we had been booked in the following night but she would try and move the booking. There was no apology that it was their error, we felt like we were at fault! As it happened, the lodge was ready for us to go in straightway - it was beautiful. The meal in The Old Mill was fabulous and drinks reasonably priced - would definitely recommend it! Reception just needed to be bit warmer!

This is an amazing cottage and one we will return to .

As we celebrated New Year the Christmas decorations were up still up. This included a gorgeous Christmas Tree and a wreath on the door . There was also a welcome hamper with lots of goodies . The cottage was the most cleanest self catering accommodation I have stayed in . It was really luxurious and we did not want to leave . The beds and bedding are superb and as it is so quiet there we had the best nights sleep . The Hot Tub was a great way to enjoy the countryside views. It was well maintained and is on a raised terrace so easy access . Inside the cottage is tastefully furnished and there are lots of thoughtful touches . These included hair bands and cotton buds . The Kitchen is well equipped and was great as we cooked several times . Tescos delivered to us too which was helpful . We drove out to several local beaches and spent a morning in Looe. We enjoyed Seaton Beach with the Dog . The cottage was a welcome retreat to come back to . We will return one day to this lovely haven. So much work has gone into this and it shows .

When we arrived we were really impressed by the property but as we unpacked we noticed that it really did need a good clean.

The skirting boards were really dusty, we probably notice this more as we have a toddler so play on the floor. It felt like it needed a deep clean. The towel rails were also dusty and the toilet brushes were not pleasant. The en-suite shower also requires a deep clean. We didn’t use the en-suite at all as the toilet was leaking. The towel rail also didn’t work in here and the one in the main bathroom was coming away from the wall. I think the property would benefit from some maintenance. Other feedback I would like to give is that some sort of cleaning spray is provided for the kitchen and more than one tea towel. Overall we still had a fantastic stay even with the above and reception did offer to send someone to the property but by the time we had spoken to reception we were unpacked and out and about a lot. The location and site is lovely. We found the main living space to be fab and the outdoor space is also brilliant with a lovely view. The hot tub was spotless and maintained daily.

The lodge was lovely but it could have been cleaner on arrival and needs some updating including the bed in the main room that the mattress needs replacing as previously raised.

The extractor fan in the en-suite was not working and the handle on the door in the twin room was wobbly. Whilst the lodge was generally clean there was still a lot of dust on the floor and stains on the counter surfaces. The lodge itself is wonderful and the hot tub was fantastic. It was suitable for a toddler too which was great but could do with some greater upkeep. To also note it was very difficult to get in contact with the Old Mill/Reception and they didn’t seem very helpful once I was able to get in touch. The restaurant menu as advertised in the lodge was not the same as when we ate there with the food being nice but very average. Whilst take away services are advertised it was not available if the restaurant has bookings which seemed odd to advertised the facility given the restaurant only opened a few nights a week. We did enjoy our stay.
