What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kate - Verified booking

Pentre Fach is a lovely barn conversion and the owners are so kind and helpful.

The hot tub is a treat we were here for 3 weeks Fresh water change was done weekly which I felt was great. I Feel the cottage could benefit from some new utensils as the knifes and scissors were blunt and there were not enough glass for 6 people, cottage sleeps 6 but only 3 Prosecco glasses etc also a nice big saucepan would have been useful when cooking for a large family. These are only small Suggestions And had I have asked the owners whist there I know they would have been more than accommodating as nothing was a problem for them and they would have been happy to help. Being in the country flies were an issue for me the owners again supplied us with fly paper and spray etc but if the doors were open the flies were in plenty! (I spent a lot of time killing and picking up flies). The beds and bedding were lovely and comfortable and we had fresh bedding and towels brought every week the upstairs rooms were very hot as they are in the roof of the house I was certainly glad I planned ahead and took fans or it would have been unbearable on really hot days especially as I was reluctant to open windows Because of the flies coming in. The games and swing ball in the garden were a lovely addition and there was plenty of garden furniture to sit and enjoy the outdoors. All in all we had a great time here and that was down to Julie and Gareth for helping us feel so welcome there. I would highly recommend A visit to Llandrindod well Lakes which is only a 25 minute drive we spent most days there are the kids enjoyed the fishing which is free to under 16 (take your own equipment) lovely play area for the little ones and a cafe serving beautiful food for great prices.

The Searle is not really a cottage.

It is an apartment within a converted Pub. Had I known would not have booked it. extremely clean and modern decor. apart from the old disgusting dirty and stained bedroom curtains hanging off the rails. Also issues with lack of clothes wardrobe . The soot and water mix from leaking chimney stack staining the back wall of fire place. The kitchen had long term (see past reviews) breakages and missing cooking items. Self catering!!?? The outside in a state of neglect and dis-repair. Leaking hot tub . Owner switched it off. There is no garden. It is a concrete ‘yard’, with a trip hazard foot path from entrance gate. Secondary gate latch hanging off ….not pet safe. Render and crack damage around entrance door, walls and damp course level. Blocked (long term growing vegetation) rain guttering, creating a Niagara Falls onto path slabs . Sleep was impossible. Then I saw the Property for sale sign, since March 2024. I concluded this was a significant reason for Searle’s general dis-repair and the owners non- commitment to her property and her guests mental comfort. When sold it is somebody else’s problem. Three days in I had enough . left and returned home. Left comments in guest book , dated and signed . I text owner Sara Jay/Jane when home. To date I have not had a reply. I did not expect one . This standard is not what I expect from Sykes Cottages. Please see my account list of prev cottages and 10/10 reviews. Kind regards Michael Reid

We have just returned from a week long holiday at The Old Mill and we had an awesome time.

The Mill is set back from the main road in a very beautiful rural setting. The accommodation is a real home away from home - very roomy and well equipped with everything one needs (and more) for a comfortable break. We holidayed with 3 adults and 4 children and there was plenty of room. The children loved exploring the garden and stream - there is also a gate leading into the woods which takes you on a walk. We also loved the hot tub after a long day out sight seeing! Llandrindod Wells is a 15 min drive away with a large Tesco - I registered for delivery and pre-ordered my shopping to arrive at the Mill on day 1. There's also a great real ale micropub ‘Arvon Ales’, ‘Zeera’ Indian restaurant and a BBQ restaurant ‘Worth Your Salt Barbecue’ that are worth visiting! There is so much to do in the area that we wished we could have stayed another week - the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader is a must. Hay-on-wye is 45 mins away, Aberystwyth is a little over an hour and has a great Victorian cliff railway, and the Elan Valley if you fancy stretching your legs as there are loads of walks around the hillside and dams. Overall I would definitely recommend The Old Mill for a peaceful relaxing holiday and will definitely consider booking again.

We had a lovely holiday in this newly-renovated cottage.

The facilities were exemplary with the owners having paid considerable attention to the small details. These ranged from quality toiletries to milk, tea, coffee on arrival and even a tin of biscuits for the dogs. The cottage was very clean and the owners very helpful. The cottage is (almost) at the end of a long drive and there was no noticeable noise from the main road, even when outside. It was very refreshing to find a place where every member of our family was comfortable, including our two dogs. It was delightful to sit in the hot tub in the cool autumn evenings with a glass of locally pressed fruit juice to hand. We will happily recommend this cottage to those who want an “away from it all” holiday - it’s quite a drive to even the nearest convenience store and there are no take-aways anywhere close but this was perfect for us. It’s a central location for a lot of interesting places which are around an hour’s drive away (we visited Aberystwyth, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon) whilst still having interesting walks close by. We’ll be coming back soon.

The house was laid out a little strange.

The main sitting area was on the first floor which backs onto the double room for kids. Needless to say this was not used much by the adults at night as we would have kept a the kids awake watching tv or having the tv on. I constantly hit my head on low beams in the top floor as I am 6ft 2 and needed to keep reminding myself to duck under these. The house was constantly full of flies, on the last day I counted some 50 on one fly paper trap we had set up the day before, sadly they were coming in internally as we kep the windows and doors shut for the day. I feel the owner would know about this as flypaper and sprays have been left by other customers. Wifi was poor which was disappointing as this is a basic requirement. The kids enjoyed themselves here, I had a great holiday, sadly I felt it was overpriced for the issues I have outlined above. However, it’s classed as a luxury property-that’s why my expectations were high. 6 out of 10.
