About this property

When you stay at Laloma, you can expect sublime views over the Helford River from the house and garden, a peaceful location near the Helford village shop and the Shipwrights Arms pub, and space for six people to sleep in three bedrooms. The thatched holiday cottage dates from the 1700s and has been a much-loved part of the owners' lives for three decades. It's wonderfully welcoming in all seasons and particularly well suited for a family self-catering holiday in Cornwall. Falmouth and Helston are nine miles from the door, and St Ives and Penzance are within an hour's drive.

Laloma is a magical name for a beautiful holiday cottage. Dating back to the 1700s, the traditional thatched property has spectacular views of the Helford River and is within skipping distance of the village shop and the Shipwrights Arms in Helford. It has been in the owner's family for decades, and there's a real sense of warmth and welcome as you cross the threshold. It's ideal for families, with space for six people to sleep in three bedrooms, a country kitchen overlooking the garden to the river, and off-street parking for two cars. Laloma is everything you could wish for your self-catering holiday in Cornwall.

The Helford River is one of Cornwall's most beautiful waterways. As you watch sailboats bobbing along the river, imagine the village's busy heyday when boats brought in rum, lace and tobacco - not always legally! The Helford Valley's beauty is almost too good to be true. Hire a boat or a kayak and explore from the water, or follow paths along the bank through ancient oak forests and past farmland. Top of your wish list should be a ride on the pedestrian ferry over the river to the sub-tropical gardens at Glendurgan and Trebah. Those who love the beach will adore the sandy shore at Bosahan and Grebe. Helford is also on the South-West coast footpath. There is a foot ferry which crosses the Helford River where the footpath continues to Falmouth. Just a short walk from Helford Village is Frenchman’s Creek, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name.

If you're searching for a place to relax, then this thatched Cornwall holiday cottage is it. Local attractions include the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Trelowarren House, and National Trust owned Durgan Village. Helford is part of the Lizard Heritage Coast with miles of footpaths and cycleways. Guests rate Laloma highly for its peaceful location, panoramic views, and stargazing opportunities.

    Accommodation Comprises:

    Downstairs:

  • The L-shaped living/dining room with multi-aspect windows and views over the river and the cottage garden. The living room has a sofa and armchairs, a TV, an inglenook fireplace, and a log burner. The dining table seats six and can extend to accommodate two more people. There is also a desk if guests need to work during their stay.
  • Pine cabinets give the kitchen a lovely country style. There is a dishwasher but the views of the river from the sink are so good, you may prefer to wash up by hand. Appliances include a Bosch electric oven and a washer/dryer.
  • There is a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin in the bathroom.
  • Upstairs:

  • Bedroom One is the largest with a king-sized bed and water views.
  • Bedroom Two overlooks the garden at the front of the cottage and has a double bed.
  • Bedroom Three is a twin, furnished with two single beds and boasting more river views.
  • Outside: The cottage has mature gardens bursting with life, an outdoor seating area with breathtaking views, and off-street parking for two cars.

Additional Information: Linen, WiFi, and bed linen are included. The owners provide one bath towel and one hand towel per guest. Two well behaved dogs are welcome, with no extra fee. Smoking, candles and barbeques are not allowed due to the thatched nature of the cottage and its neighbours. The cottage is not accessible for wheelchair users. Children and pets should be supervised when outside, due to steep steps and drops as well as paths made from slate, which can become slippery in wet weather.
