What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rowena - Verified booking

The holiday cottage was compact and homely and had beautiful views over the hills surrounding it .

It felt like an escape from our other pressures and some of the neighbours were very helpful about the surrounding areas and lots of leaflets in cottage too . Parking at the cottage was reasonable, and we were shown by a helpful neighbour how to access property behind ,as to the front is a pretty busy road, so difficult with shopping and dogs . It would have been useful to have some basic pointers about useful info, as to how to work the boiler, use hob and recycling or bin facilities. The manuals were in a drawer, but I for one struggled with the convector hob , gave up one night but eventually got it to work . For dog owners ,they need to be prepared to lock front door and take dogs out on lead to garden that is set up high at the back..up 2 sets of steps ,this was not an issue for us,but could be if less active . The bonus was the rural setting was really lovely . The beds were comfortable enough and towels and linen provided.. Possibly the sofa and chairs needed to be a bit bigger or something for sprawling, but yet again the cottage is quite small for larger furniture .Many thanks, we enjoyed our stay and the purple heather on the hill behind was in full glory ..

The cottage could best be described as ‘adequate’.

Not particularly clean and rather lacking in kitchen utensils (plates, bowls, cutlery etc.) There was no welcome pack, or information provided. I wasn’t aware that the field at the end of the track behind the cottage was out of bounds to people and dogs, but was abruptly informed of this by a very grumpy woman who accosted me as soon as I passed through the open gate. Information about this in the cottage would have been helpful. However despite this, we enjoyed our stay at Bea’s Cottage - the views at the front are lovely, the surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for great walks with our dog. Access to the front door of the property is difficult due to lack of pavement and a very busy main road, which made unloading and loading the car quite perilous. Bed was comfortable and plenty of clean towels and bedding provided. The local pub - The Lantern Pike was excellent. We enjoyed two meals here and the staff and regulars very friendly.

Fabulous property ideally situated for seeing the local area and walking and with the train stations only 2 and 10 mins away it gave us direct access to Buxton and Edale without needing the car.

This is a small property and it states it's for 4 people. There's a double bed upstairs on the mezzanine floor and a sofa bed downstairs - think this would be very cosy for any period of time. However, it was just the 2 of us and our small dog so great. Well kitted out kitchen with everything you need. Laundry facilities next to the marina office for a small fee. Starter kit included for the fire and you can purchase more fuel and logs from the marina office. Few minor points. The first is that the lighting in the living / dining area is provided by lamps. Lovely and cosy, but restricted if you're doing jigsaws etc (as we were!). Secondly the upstairs area gets very hot so if you're like us and prefer to sleep in a cold room, we ended up throwing the windows wide open when we went to bed. And finally the Wi-Fi speed is adequate but limited. Didn't bother us at all but might others!! Would definitely recommend - we didn't want to come home!

This is a really nice cottage.

Very well maintained & clean throughout with a great location on the canal for walks. Parking bay immediately outside is very helpful. The kitchen is fully equipped. The downstairs bathroom is a good size and is very warm with ample towels. Free Wi-Fi worked fine for us. The tv is modern with hdmi inputs for fire stick, dvd player etc if you want your own evening entertainment. As others have said, the mezzanine bedroom can get ridiculously hot & stuffy with the rising heat. The log fire was great and bags of logs can be bought at the marina office for approx £8. There is no enclosed space for the dog - it’s an open area with bench & bbq facilities. It’s also helpful that Torrside brewery is the building next door & has its own bottle shop to sample their lovely ales. It would be great to stay there in the summer months.

We needed a cottage because we were having building work done at home.

So it met this need. However we did not find the cottage dog friendly. The front garden is ungated and leads on to a very busy road (lots of traffic noise and no pavement). The back has a very small yard which you exit via steep stone steps. One of our dogs has a ligament problem and had to be carried out. We also got quickly informed by neighbors that dogs are not encouraged at the back of the property and that dogs are not permitted on the little piece of grass at the rear. Suggesting that this is a dog friendly property is a gross exaggeration and need to be removed from the listing. Also no bedside lamps were available and the shower room was not well finished. We only paid £372 for the week so it was cheap and cheerful and got the job done. Had we paid the normal full price you'd be hearing from our solicitors.
