Blackbird Cottage is a well-presented, rustic holiday home located in a calm and friendly neighbourhood by the lovely market town of Northam in Devon. Situated so close to the coast and surrounded by several nature reserves, this cottage is an ideal base for families, friends and a furry companion seeking relaxing beach days and hikes with stunning scenery. Step into your home away from home to find a pleasant sitting room where you’ll curl up on the sofa to watch your favourite shows and movies. When the day ends, unwind with a hot shower and retreat under the freshly-washed sheets of the double and twin beds. Venture out to explore the town of Northam, that's only a 10 minute walk!, and you’ll find the Kingsley Inn for some delicious pub grub, walk over to Westward Ho and have some brunch at the beachside A Slice Of Life Café, let the food settle by lounging on the sand at Westward Ho Beach and then head to Northam Burrows Country Park with its stunning landscape and grassy planes and marches.

The Royal George Restaurant and Johns Café at Appledore is just 20 mins walk on the costal path from the Northam Burrows . On a sunny day, it’s wonderful to have a drink with fish and chip in Instow watching the sunset! In the wonderful historic town of Bideford, nature-lovers and hikers can head to Kenwith Valley Nature Reserve for a peaceful walk and a picnic by the lake, if you’re travelling with children head over to the animal-themed family theme park The BIG Sheep and if you want to find out more about the town’s local history and enjoy some tea in an old train car, make your way to Bideford Railway Heritage Centre.

Northam is a small village with a restaurant, pub, takeaway and small supermarket and lies on the hill above the lively village of Westward Ho! Westward Ho! has a two mile long glorious sandy beach, an excellent selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, a surf school and shops. The beach is popular for surfing and kite surfing, plus life guards are on duty during the summer season and there's a designated dog area. The Tarka Trail runs through Bideford and is especially popular with cyclists, with cycle hire, including child buggies and even dog buggies available here and at many places along the way. Northam Burrows is part of North Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is enjoyed by walkers, and the Royal North Devon Golf Club is also here. For the more energetic the coastal path to Peppercombe and Clovelly offers stunning views along the coastline. From Bideford there are boat trips to Lundy Island, and nearby Appledore has fascinating narrow streets, interesting shops, fish and chips shops and a restaurant, as well as fishing trips. Family attractions nearby include the Big Sheep and Milky Way, as well as National Trust properties, Hartland Abbey, RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Glass. Also Clovelly is delightful with its quay, steep cobbled streets and donkeys and no cars are allowed down into the village. There's plenty to see and do from Northam.

Lovely comfy beds with patchwork bedspreads. Pretty enclosed garden with garden furniture. Car parking just around the corner. The owner put the heating on straight away when I mentioned I was chilly and she contacted me to check all was well. A super welcome basket was awaiting me in the compact kitchen which has all you need, although I suggested a casserole dish with lid would be useful and the owner thanked me for my suggestion. I would return here.
