Loved this place.
Lovely cottage with everything you could need. The upper patio is just brilliant for the views. We could sit there all day no watch the boats go by. Yes itâs on a hill and yes itâs tough to climb back up but we knew this and we managed. If you want a view then is the compromise! We managed to just park as near as we could, unload then we moved the car to the car park and we only used it one day - and dont forget the pass covers a lot of the car parks around the area so you donât need to pay for more parking. We never had a fire but there were bags of logs outside the front door that you could buy if you wanted one. We were so very lucky with the weather for April- blue skies and sunshine every day - but chilly on a night so we just put the heating on. Very snug. As this house has two bathrooms it was very handy for us both to have showers at the same time.. plenty of throws, blankets and even hot water bottles for the cold nights. Lovely picture window in the lounge to look out at Kingswear and the river and out to sea. Take the road to the right out of the property and walk down to warfleet creek and then have coffee at Dartmouth Castle and do a circular walk through Little Dartmouth, walk down to Sugary cove and then back across Jawbone Hill for a spectacular walk. The only thing I didnât like was having to ring Sykes to get the key code for the box at Coast and Country for the keys as we would be arriving after the office closed and having to hang on for about 45 mins. Why canât we just be given the number for the office in Dartmouth instead - Sykes have to ring them so why canât the customer.

The property is well placed to enjoy the town and all amenities of Dartmouth.
It is very central and 10min walk to centre. Although there is no parking space at the property, a permit for one vehicle is provided to park in town. The house is very stylishly decorated, modern and up to date decor. Lots of storage, very comfortable beds and well fitted kitchen. The bathroom and shower room are lovely with good water pressure in both. There is so much to do in Dartmouth itself, for two days we didn't use the car! We walked to Dartmouth Castle and Castle cove. We were lucky to see a dolphin in the cove. There is a lovely cafe next to the castle. We caught a small ferry/water taxi back, make sure you take cash to pay the ferry man. On another day we crossed the river and caught the steam train to Paignton and back for a cruise on the river Dart. 3 trips to the beach - Bantham beach for body boarding and Bigbury to catch sea tractor to Burgh Island and enjoy crab sandwich at Pilchard Inn. Another beach we enjoyed is Blackpool Sands (not sandy) a sheltered bay with good swimming. Bigbury and Bantham beaches are sandy. There is an abundance of places to eat in Dartmouth and our favourites, Alf Resco for brunch, Floating Bridge and Rockfish for dinner. There is a great butcher just next to the market place at the end of the road when you walk into town. Also a French bakery next to the market, down one of the narrow lanes. We didn't have time to take a ferry trip to Dittisham where we planned crabbing on the pontoon, we also wanted to go paddle boarding but hopefully do them next time. Very enjoyable and Hillside is the perfect place to stay.

The property is lovely in a very elevated spot, with incredible views.
Meaning lots of height therefore lots of steps. This was ok for us but our older dog struggled with the uncarpeted stairs to the living area from the front door. It is fairly central, vertically and not too far away from areas to walk with the dogs, you can go further up onto Dyers Hill or down to Victoria park. The outside area is nice but no real place for dogs to do their business, as itâs all decked. There are plants but they are on a slant, we had to let them out of the front door to find a bit of greenery. The property does have everything you could need and we were very comfortable. I donât think I fully appreciated how hard it would be to cope with the constant steps/up. A walk up from town, then a walk up to the property and when there another walk up to the living area and then to get the very best views, and they are spectacular, another 3 sets of steps to the top deck. The views are amazing, just be prepared for the exercise. We did have a shock one evening when we were going to bed, it had rained heavily, we discovered two huge snails on the wall by the front door. We couldnât see at first how they had got in but we realised there is quite a big gap by the front door skirting and they must have got in there, perhaps that could be looked at. All in all a lovely stay, but with our dogs and us getting older we wouldnât stay that high up again. We love Dartmouth so have already booked for next year, this time back on the level. Thank you to Karen and Ross for all the little touches in Dart Views.

The property itself is fantastic.
A very modern barn conversion in a lovely location. Beds were very comfortable although I think an option for a harder pillow is necessary for those with that preference. There was no way of cleaning the toilets during our stay. On arrival, the property seemed unclean, lots of dust and cobwebs in easily accessible areas. There was dirty washing in the dishwasher, presumably from previous guests. Windows werenât very clean at all. Pool table was slanted despite this being a major selling point for the property, so a bit disappointed with that although I did not stop us from using it each night. Lighting wasnât great above the table and sometimes it was hard to see which ball was which colour (mainly when playing snooker). Hot tub is great. Although, with it being wood fired it takes time to heat up. This is not always possible with days out etc and by the time it has heated, it would be pushing well into the night. I know this is not the case for everybody. Have to say that the maintenance team were great as there were a couple of issues during our stay which were fixed straight away. Communication with them via e-mail was quick and easy. Lots of flies at the property which is understandable as it is on a working farm. The fly spray provided did not quite cut it unfortunately. I think this needs looking at (if possible). I hope this feedback helps in the future. Thanks again for our stay :)

Barberry Brook was awful, it was filthy, dusty, run down, absolutely full of cobwebs/spiders/Insects and flies.
We could not stay there. The owners werenât there to greet us, we were wandering around for 45 minutes before just letting ourselves in to be disappointed. After phoning them to complain they were extremely rude and uncooperative. We had to wait well over an hour and 30 mins for them to return. The whole site was nothing like the photos, very run down, no tennis court as advertised, filthy games room and junk everywhere. The Photos online seem to be from years ago. Sykes wouldnât return our calls to the emergency helpline, therefore leaving us stranded with zero assistance at 7pm. We wanted help for an alternative accomodation and none was given. Therefore we left the property and booked into a hotel, leaving for home the next day. We have now been told we cannot claim our money back. I have left a review on trip advisor with more details. We will never use or recommend Sykes again, and have been left extremely upset and our holiday ruined. This needs looking into further, I would suggest Sykes visits these kind of holiday cottages/establishments every so often to review the star rating as this certainly was far from a 4 star and very overpriced. We will carry on trying to get our holiday refunded as we feel itâs extremely unfair as to how we have been treated, especially trying our hardest to get help from Sykes but being left until the next day without any contact from them.
