A Perfect Countryside Getaway at The Barn in lower Longcombe Our recent stay at The Barn in Devon was nothing short of spectacular. Nestled in the serene countryside, this beautifully restored barn offered the perfect blend of charm and modern comfort, making it an ideal retreat for friends and family. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning surroundings. The rolling hills, lush green fields, and picturesque views provided a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Barn itself is a masterpiece of design, with its exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and tasteful decor creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The accommodations were superb. The spacious living area, provided a perfect gathering spot for our group. The kitchen was fully equipped, allowing us to prepare delicious meals which we enjoyed in the stunning indoor and outside dining area. Each bedroom was a sanctuary of comfort, with plush beds and beautiful furnishings ensuring a restful night's sleep for everyone. One of the highlights of our stay was the outdoor space. The Barn boasts a beautiful patio with ample seating, perfect for alfresco dining or simply soaking up the stunning views. We spent many evenings sharing stories and enjoying the star-filled sky. The dogs loved the open space to run and play, while the adults appreciated the peace and tranquility. The location is ideal for exploring the Devon countryside. We enjoyed scenic walks right from our doorstep, discovering charming villages, and taking in the breathtaking landscapes. The nearby beaches provided fun-filled days of sun and shingle, and we even ventured to a few local attractions, all within easy reach. The hospitality we received was outstanding. Wow, what a beautiful barn conversion. A great place to stay for a large family group. We rented the barn over the Christmas period and everything couldn't have been more perfect. The large open living area on the main floor is absolutely perfect, the kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with all modern appliances and a huge island area which was perfect for sitting around for a chat whilst preparing our dinners. The dining area has a very large table with seating for 8 people and the lounge area has two large comfy sofas and a wood burner for those cosy winter evenings. Up above the kitchen is a beautiful mezzanine floor with seating for those quieter evenings and the addition of windows in the roof allows you to gaze up peacefully at the stars. There is a separate lounge area/snug off of the main living area which also leads you to the staircase to the lower floor where there are 4 beautiful double bedrooms, 2 of which are en-suite. The Master bedroom is truly very special, with the biggest en-suite I have ever seen. Both Joanne and Simon were there to greet us soon after we arrived and answered any questions we had about the barn. They are a lovely couple who clearly have a very good eye for detail and cant thank them enough. All in all I would highly recommend this property for larger family groups who are looking for something with more class than your normal holiday rental property.

The owner's direct contact with us was potentially helpful, but in fact the keys were not where they were said to be by him but were in the key safe as expected.

The name sign for the property is barely legible and should be renewed as a matter of urgency. The owners directions to the property were misleading, although we recognize that navigating Devon lanes is a nightmare. For the information of future visitors to the property can we respectfully suggest the following: the easiest route to Toad Hall in the final stages is to proceed from Totnes via Harbertonford until the BP filling station is reached on the junction with the Dartmouth road on the left. Proceed past the turn to Dartmouth for a few hundred metres and look out for the LEFT turn to SLAPTON. Take this LEFT turn and proceed until there is a RIGHT turn marked with a white finger post. Take the LEFT turn immediately beyond this RIGHT turn. This lane goes directly to the final destination. Toad Hall is on the left behind the first group of houses that will appear. Turn in left at the sign "Middle Hutcherleigh" between the buildings and make an immediate - and very tight - right turn that will take you past Toad Hall, which is a single storey building on the left, hopefully with a renewed name sign. Further ahead down the slope and round a left curve in the track is the parking area. We think that a teapot should be provided. The food bin was in a disgusting state and wasn't where it was supposed to be.

We arrived on a dark very wet evening.

It was impossible to find this place. We eventually had to call at a house to ask for help. He agreed it was not very easy to find. Put up some directions. The cottage was freezing cold. Had a radiator in lounge area, which we later discovered, was not operable due to no gas in the property!!!. We sat with blankets around us until we got the fire going. The TV did not work for the whole of our visit. Misadvertising. Loads of DVDâs which proved TV did not work. Now the bed. We are both in our 70âs. The person next to the wall had to get the other person to move every time they get up. The only place that was warm all the time was the toilet area. Not much good. We would never visit this property again. It needs a lot of jobs doing to it. Ps no freezer compartment in the fridge. Couldnât get the cooker top ever to work.

Quirky cosy comfortable cottage in a very peaceful rural hamlet setting, with lots of narrow lanes to navigate to get too.

Amazed by the ceiling friesche beautiful detail, cottage all on one level which was easier for our older dog. We made full use of the log burner on the coldest November nights. Only a few small negative points maybe a welcome pack would have been a nice touch, and we had to wash the cutlery draw as was dirty with long grey hairs in there. Was very central to all South Devon has to offer Totnes, Dartmouth and salcombe and some lovely beaches. Recommend the Old Inn halwell lovely evening meal and The Sportsman's Arms Blackawton for a fabulous Sunday carvery. Just two suggestions maybe an iron and ironing board would be handy, and for privacy a side curtain or net for the small side window by sofa. Enjoyed our time thoroughly thank you.
