    Broughton-in-Furness Holiday Cottages

A picturesque market town with a traditional Georgian market square still in place, Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th century, with its oldest building, St Mary’s Church, still standing today. Holidaymakers can journey through eras of fascinating local history, using the town as a base from which to explore the rest of the area.

Broughton-in-Furness’ market square is dominated by the Georgian obelisk that was originally erected to mark the jubilee of King George III in 1810. Fairs and events used to be held through the square and the community still read their town charter annually on 1st August: a nod to the neighbourhood’s heritage. Indeed, other remnants of the town’s rich history are also plain to see in the centre, with stocks for misbehavers and the original fish slabs used to sell locally-caught fish both still standing.

Snaptrip offers accommodation of all shapes and sizes for those looking to stay in Broughton-in-Furness. If you need any additional help or advice in making your holiday cottage booking, give our customer service team a call – they’re available 7 days a week until 9:30pm at night.

      The cottage itself was beautiful.

3 good sized double bedrooms were perfect. Beds really comfy. One bedroom en suite up some steps as stated and decent main bathroom. Kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook in. Dinning room good size, living room really cosy and log burner was great.. a perfect place to chill at the end of a long day walking. We only ended up eating out 1 night as it was so lovely staying in. Useful utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer and place to dry wet boots and clothes. Which really helped us as weather wasn’t great. Heating really easy to use and cottage warms up really quickly and plenty of hot water. Downsides… the cottage is right next to a main road…surprisingly this was not actually too noisy other than first thing in the morning, but main problem is that access is via the back… when we arrived the path was a full flowing stream… you would need welly boots to get through so we had to unload at the front (there is a slight pull in, but it is a main road) and then park at back and walk back round to to the front. Other days the stream became a trickle so we could use the back entrance using walking boots. Back garden is beautiful but the stream situation is a problem. Lovely area in general… good access to both Lake District and local beaches. Good info at the house.

We did enjoy our stay at the cottage but did feel that there were a couple of things which should be addressed.

You refer to a deep clean taking place prior to us taking possession of the cottage. There was certainly no deep clean - I have a picture I took but there's nowhere to download it to on here so I will email separately. My in-laws had dropped some tablets down the back of the bedroom drawers - it was a sight to behold. Cobwebs along with dirty clothing - which did not belong to us. Secondly, the cottage is situated on a very busy main A road - there is constant noise of traffic, and not just cars. As it's a main road, there is a continual flow of tankers and large lorries passing through. Not only that but the cottage is situated near to the traffic lights on a bridge, so it gets backed up as lorries can't turn around the corners of the windy road - so not only do they block the daylight when sitting outside the lounge/dining room windows - the drivers can see you sat down. We actually live in a small village where it's very quiet - so this element was very disappointing. Also with us having a small dog made it quite terrifying to open the front door in case he escaped as he would have been injured or killed had he got out - the pictures on the website certainly deceive you into thinking it's a quiet little country lane!!

      Very pleased with The Stables.

Excellent spacious accommodation. Ideal for a holiday any time of the year. Cosy lounge with two heaters to keep you warm on a chilly winter night. Easy to use appliances in the kitchen. A great fusion of old and new. Don’t expect an invigorating shower though as the water pressure is low. Ideal for a family or couple. Good too for someone with limited mobility. I took my sister who walks with the aid of a frame. Owners left a welcome gift of wine and chocolate and were kind enough to bring us candles and torches in case we had a blackout during Storm Eowyn, which we did! Lots of places to visit in the area although some attractions are closed in the winter. Nature reserve at Millom and a good pub in the square. Walk along the old railway at Broughton-In-Furness then visit the pub in the square with open fire to warm yourself. Swinside Stone Circle nearby. Limited parking on narrow lane near the entrance of the farm track that you have to walk up to access the site. All in all The Stables is the ideal all year round base for walking the quiet southwestern fells, cycling and scenic driving.

When we arrived we found the cottage exactly where it should be.

Directions were spot on. We found the key and accessed the cottage easily. when we looked around. WOW!!! we went upstairs to chose our bedrooms. The first bedroom was the largest bedroom which was grabbed by our relatives over from Australia. then we looked at the second bedroom, I found a door in the corner of the room and again. WOW!!! The en-suite to this bedroom was up four steps into another room and it was perfect. The third bedroom was perfect for our son. The main bathroom was again clean and tidy and ideal for the others. The stair case was so wide, you would be forgiven for thinking your were in a grand house instead of what looked like a small cottage. When I say small, it was deceiving. All the rooms were deceptively large and comfortable. It even had a utility room which was big enough to swing a cat. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our week and will definitely look at Duddon Cottage again if in the area. Thank you for making our stay just perfect.

From the moment we left the m6 until the following week when we got back on the m6 the whole holiday was brilliant.

The views were stunning and when we arrived at the cottage you could not have asked for a more beautiful setting.the house was spotless there were items of goodies left to make you feel welcome and boy did it.louise even allowed us in early to watch the Sweden game at the world cup and we won that one .I defy anyone to think of a gadget or kitchen item that duddon didn't have.before I booked the savoy sorry duddon I read every previous review and now having had the privalige of staying there I now know they were so correct.the bonus was the near by village of broughton in furness less than 5 mins away a dog walkers paradise just passed the helpful petrol station was a man made park road that led to a beautiful lake with benches and plenty of ducks you then go to the local bakery for the best items going.thank you louise for all your kindness and to the sykes team that were a dream to deal with.we will count the days down to our return.ricky fagg
