What our customers say about their holidays

    • Taymour - Verified booking

The listing was inaccurate and said the property had facilities such as a dishwasher and heating which weren’t included.

Enough wood was provided to get us started when we arrived at the cold property, but that was 4x pieces of damp wood, so obviously not satisfactory. The house has heating, but you have to text the owner when you want it to be switched on and she took ages to respond, then only offered up to one hour of heating to be switched on at a time to “save on the gas”. The cleaner hadn’t refilled the soap dispenser or left any cleaning products for the kitchen. We were told twice that the cleaner would restock these things, but it didn’t happen. We bought our own cleaning products and found that the kitchen sides were filthy and far from hygienic. The coat stand is a health and safety risk as it falls over when anything is hung up. It almost impaled my dog and narrowly missed hitting my partner in the head. While all of the above was poor, the thing that was most dissatisfactory was the response of the owner when we raised the issues with her. Even after telling her that I had been omitted to hospital with a respiratory condition from staying in the property and not having access to heating, she showed a complete lack of empathy and reiterated that the reason for the lack of heating was because it was expensive to pay for the gas to heat the property. We certainly wouldn’t recommend this property and wish we had stayed away. There are lots to choose from in the area, many of which are cheaper than this one, which I think would be much better and run by a reasonable owner.

      This cottage is amazing.

The location is perfect - you can stand at the kitchen sink and look directly out into the mountains. As soon as we stepped out of the front door we had a choice of several different walks to go on. Strike upwards for the mountain or the upper Stiwnog reservoir, or down to the lower reservoir or into Blaenau Ffestiniog, we did both. We also had a kickabout on the school football pitch at the bottom of the hill. The cottage itself feels fresh and light. There is a modern kitchen with a huge window letting in tons of light separated by a door from a very comfortable sitting room and a log burner set in a fireplace with tons of character. Lots of room in the fireplace to store all the logs we needed for the evening so no need to go anywhere once we had settled down. The bathroom was clean and fresh with a modern finish and another fab view of the mountain. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable. They both have wardrobes so there was plenty of storage for our clothes and space to stow the suitcases. To cap it off there is a shallow feeder pool for the reservoir about 100m away from the cottage that is perfect for skimming stones and paddling in. We spent a few hours there on our way back to the cottage when our son wasn’t quite ready to go home yet. We had a super relaxing stay and really enjoyed our time here. Thanks.

      Disappointing stay.

The property was unexpectedly cold when we arrived. We were provided with a few pieces of damp wood to get started with the log burner, but it wasn’t enough to even get us through the first night. The house has heating, but the thermostat is kept in a locked box and you have to text the owner when you want it to be switched on. I felt uncomfortable having to ask someone on Whatsapp for the house to be warmed up. For the price I paid I just wanted to stay in a cottage where I could disconnect from being online and using technology for a week, so did not appreciate needing to use WhatsApp to ask to warm up the cold house. The cleaning products and hand soap were empty, which I was told would be addressed with the cleaner but I didn’t hear anything further. We bought our own cleaning products and found that the kitchen sides were dirty. The coat stand fell over when anything was hung up. It almost hit my dog and also narrowly missed hitting my partner in the head on both occasions that we hung something up on it. When communicating with the owner about my concerns above, she just referred to the positive reviews that had been left before and I would have appreciated if more was done to acknowledge my concerns and to rectify the points I had raised.

What an amazing location/views and an absolutely lovely cottage!

Thanks so much to Rob and Debbie for going out of their way to get our WIFI and TV fixed (through no fault of theirs) during our stay, and for their kindness and hospitality in making us feel welcomed and looked after. I've been coming to Snowdonia for over 25 years and love it, and I have stayed in many holiday cottages over this time but few I would return to if I'm honest...however 19 Cwmorthin Road is not one of them and I will definitely be returning as often as I can afford!! Brilliant location with lots of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, lakes and slate quarries to explore - all from the front door. The cottage is clean, lovely kitchen, and bathroom and bedrooms are perfect. The only suggestion I would have is to reinstate the cottage handbook, to help with how to use equipment, recycling, etc., however Rob did mention that it is currently being updated. Wonderful place to stay both in terms of location, and the cottage itself and its reasonably priced too!! Thanks Rob & Debbie x

Bryn Alun is a very clean and freshly refurbished holiday cottage, offering good access to the nearby Moelyn hills.

We had asked for a little tolerance on a personal issue as there had been a change of plan, this was originally granted. However, soon after we felt we were being spied upon and our privacy intruded after complaints were made, not to us, but instead to the agent. The owner failed to make contact with us, despite numerous opportunities, and we eventually came to realise, that he lived in the house overlooking Bryn Alun and other family members lived directly over the road. We felt we were in a "goldfish bowl". I asked him why he hadn't come to us if there was an issue, and his reply was "that's what I pay the agent for" . Being a host of a holiday cottage in The Lake District myself, this is not what I would call good hospitality.
