The cottage was in a superb location with magnificent views from the sitting room and the dining room out to sea, something we really enjoyed and appreciated. It was near a whole range of fabulous walks and Padstow was a short drive away. The kitchen was extremely well kitted out (a particularly good dishwasher with a wide range of programmes) and the bedroom was comfortable. We were surprised, though, by the hamper where we thought several items which we had assumed would be there were missing. Unlike the hamper in the only other Rural Retreats cottage we've stayed in there was no wine, cheese, biscuits or marmalade and we assumed the very large chocolate cake and the scones and jam were provided as a substitute (though not at all what we'd expected or planned for). Fortunately we were able to replace these items ourselves with a visit to the stores at Constantine. I've since talked to friends who've stayed at Trevose Head who registered surprise and I noticed one comment in the visitors' book commented on the the superb hamper, "the best we've had" so we have to assume there'd been some sort of glitch. In every other respect it was a highly enjoyable holiday and we shall most certainly book again with Rural Retreats.

Great place and beautiful location. The only one thing we were disappointed with was …the hamper! That contained tea and minced pies only! While we’ve seen others through the windows full of goodies. As a result as soon as we arrived we needed to go to tescos (after travelling for 5hrs) to buy bread,, jam, cereals, butter (all the stuff you basically need for your kids breakfast and supper as we had none) and as you mentioned all this as being a part of the hamper, we decided not to buy it in advance! For almost a thousand pound it was a true disappointment especially after we’ve seen the other hampers! The housekeeper excuse was “the shop I go to run out of everything after Christmas” really? I must add the place is well kept and clean.

Fantastic location, great cottage. Just a few niggles. Not enough crockery for a house with a full sized dishwasher. Only 8 of everything. Ran out of mugs and had to wash them up! Washing machine not easy to use had to ask the housekeeper to help. Bath very slippery when using the shower. Managed to leave the key in door (outside) and locked the door from the inside. This meant we were locked inside the cottage. Not ideal. Fortunately one of us climbed out of the fire escape window and unlocked the door from the outside. Despite the above we had a fabulous holiday and would visit again. Loved the hamper.

We had an amazing time/ experience at the lighthouse over Xmas. Only downsides, tired/ grubby carpets in entrance hall, blunt knives in kitchen, no cushions on sofas and hamper of local produce was a box of 6 Tesco mince pies (not really as advertised). This was a slight disappointment bearing in mind cost. Regardless, it was an amazing place to stay for someone who loves the sea and we did not let it spoil our time. If I could give 3.5 stars I would.
