This wonderful apartment was just perfect for our family holiday to Porthtowan.
We wanted to be close to a beach but also have amenities around us too. The apartment was beautifully clean and the attention to detail was absolutely amazing. The little extras, like dog blankets, toys for the dogs, scones and clotted cream on arrival, souvenir jam jars to take home. The list goes on! The apartment is very modern and well thought out. The drawers and cupboards were full of everything you will need! It was very comfy and had a home from home feel to it. The main oven didnât work which was a shame but we managed with the top oven for the week. We struggled to remove the shower head from the unit which became a bit annoying at times. The water pressure wasnât great but we knew this before we arrived. The only downside to this apartment is the lack of privacy in the garden. There is a few steps leading from the back garden which gives you quick access to the park opposite or the beach road. Unfortunately, our neighbours were using this constantly which did cause issues as we had no privacy whatsoever as they were in and out climbing over the wall every few minutes. This was the only big problem for us. Our children would be outside playing and then run in as they were embarrassed about having people walking over the wall. If it was a few times then this wouldâve been fine, but it was very frequent! However, this wouldnât stop us going back to Offshore, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, it ticked every box for us. You are literally opposite the pub which is a great location if you like to go out for drinks and cocktails in the evening, but you do get a bit fed up with the smell of garlic and seafood entering the apartment every day. We visited the pub which didnât really fit our family as the menu is mainly seafood. We asked for haddock and our kids ended up with platefuls of octopus, prawns and squid! Needless to say we left hungry which was a shame, but if youâre a seafood lover then youâll love it! I have given this apartment 5 stars as we really were so overwhelmed by the amount of thought thatâs gone into making this property perfect for your holiday by the sea! The little touches made it for us! Porthtowan is a beautiful place to stay. We will be back Offshore! Thanks for making this a holiday weâll never forget! â¤ï¸

Beautiful location, well equipped apartment with stunning views across St Ives.
Felt the walk down to the beaches were easy reachable and myself doing early walks around really help me get my bearings. St Ives is hilly with lots of steps but worth the visit just take your time. So many shops (my wife and twin boys have cealiac gluten allergies) which caters so well for everyone. Best fish and chips, gluten and normal is Becks in Carbis bay, worth the 5 minute drive and 20 minute wait in queâ¦trust me. The apartment has fantastic view across St Ives and as mentioned is well equipped with fluffy towels and a set of beach towels. Kitchen is also well equipped however we took our coffee maker and this would be a nice touch to add to the facilities. Apartment is well maintained and very clean and classy. Downside. I had 2 13 yrs boys, WiFi was very ropey when we were all on, again worth owners upgrading for a small cost. As a glass frontage can get very hot and balmy at night, take fans, was a challenge sleeping even with fans provided. Likely an isolated incident but the en-suite was stinking, we hardly used it, reported it so hopefully it will get fixed. Also there is a machine that recognises condensation in both bathrooms. One was broke ruined our night (all night) with irruption of clicking for about 30 seconds at a time at Radom times, kept us awake all night one night which was too much. Again killed about a day and a half but once reported staff were superb. So any issues please report. Found it easy to find, and parking was okay. Tesco is Caribs bay about 1mile away 5 minutes in car or larger Asda in Hayle 10 minutes. Loved the stay. Shame about some issues but wouldnât put us of coming back to St Ives and this penthouse.

Myself and partner stayed here for a birthday getaway at the weekend.
I was a little sceptical after reading a few of the reviews but we decided to go ahead. After making the 6 hour journey we arrived to a lovely little snug which is pretty small but compact and a nice outdoor area with the tub. Despite the set up, (and Iâm not usually one to criticise) but I can confirm that the previous reviews are pretty valid. Itâs very small (probably big enough for one person). the bed is horrendous to sleep on, like sleeping on a plank, and the pillows are so flat, so be sure to pack a duvet/pillows if youâre going! The downstairs area is pretty small and the sofa is tiny - which is only big enough for one person. Perhaps it would be better to put two chairs instead of the sofa, as we ended up having to eat either outside in the cold or up on the bedâ¦which isnât ideal! We used the hot tub (or should I say cold tub) twice and it was freezing..it seems like its stuck on option 1â¦so weâre unable to turn up the heat! (I know we have an energy crisis on but itâs slightly ridiculous that we sat in a cold tub - which was the main reason we booked the accommodation). You can also hear the neighbours really loudly next door and several times through the night there was banging and loud music going on. I know their on holidays too but itâs like living on top of one another⦠Had we not had such a long drive weâd have left a night earlier but decided to stick it out as we were both exhausted from the lack of sleep. Itâs such a shame as it has quite a lot of potential but the negatives really out way the positives and really put a dampener on the holiday!

Private hot tub is a joke with 9 windows overlooking it in a terraced back yard.
Parasol to make it private was broken and has been since Oct 22 according to other reviews. The hot tub was one of the main reasons we booked the Snug, we were very disappointed to find it so overlooked, we felt very much on show. The pictures make it look as though it is not overlooked at all. Also you cannot use the hot tub after 10pm due to noise restrictions, this was not mentioned when we reviewed the Snug to book. There is nowhere to hang wet swimming costumes when you come out of the hot tub, or coats. This could be easily sorted with a coat rack next to the bathroom door. Advertised as a self catering apartment, very difficult when the so called fridge is a drinks chiller which struggled to keep drinks cool let alone milk, butter or any other food. We had to eat out everyday which adds significantly to the cost of a holiday. This could easily be rectified by putting a small fridge under the stairs. Fire alarm went off due to people in another flat burning food, tried to ring emergency contact number to have the fire alarm turned off, only to find the phone number was incorrect, which was quite stressful and inconvenient. We rang the daytime office number twice to complain about these problems, and twice we were promised a phone call back which never happened. We came home a day early as we couldn't stay there any longer. This was our honeymoon and our only time away this year totally ruined by the Snug being misrepresented and the photo's being misleading. I would like our money back or at least part of it as we feel robbed of a holiday. I would not book through Sykes Cottages again.

The snug was well presented and in a good location, very modern and the hot tub was nice but unfortunately that's about as much good as I can say about our stay.
The space is quite alot smaller than is shown in pictures but that isn't too much if an issue. The real problem with the snug is the comforts and the privacy. The 'sofa' was very uncomfortable and small, the kitchen, although well ewuipt, lacked a decent fridge and it didn't get very cold.so had to rely on buying ice from the nearby shop. The bathroom was fine apart from the very small space for the toilet, meaning it was abit if a squeeze when it came to using it. The upstairs was nice and spacious but was let down by probably the most uncomfortable bed I've every had in a holiday home, this was made worse by the very cheap pillows so not much sleep was had. I came to realise we were actually sleeping on the bottom of the matress as it had been flipped. The outside space was lovely in principle and the hotub was amazing but this was let down by all the over looking windows from other houses, this has been helped by the umbrella that was installed but we were still overlooked. There was also a CCTV camera facing the hot tub which I understand is for security reasons but this made us feel like we were watched 24/7. All the above reasons lead us to leaving the snug a day earlier than intended because we just weren't getting any sleep ( we also had banging from neighbours both nights). A partial refund would be a good gesture seen as there are a few points raised that really shouldn't be an issue.
