What our customers are saying about our holiday cottages in devon.

"Having stayed in dozens of holiday cottages throughout the UK, including several in Devon, we have a good understanding of the standard of accommodation on offer and feel reasonably well qualified to make fair comparisons between them. Unfortunately this cottage failed to meet with our expectations, primarily with regard to comfort. We appreciate that traditional village cottages of this type and age benefit from a degree of authenticity and that this can enhance the holiday experience. However, we found the bed mattresses very uncomfortable with little support and the chairs in the lounge and kitchen far too hard and unyielding. The result was that we were unable to curl up in comfort with a book anywhere in the house during the rainy periods of our stay. Two days and disturbed nights later we decided to leave as our own home was more comfortable. Regrettably the owners did not accept our viewpoint and refused to give any refund but English Country Cottages kindly stepped in with a partial refund instead for which we were very grateful. We would say to the owners that if you are charging around £100 a night and still expect to offer good value for money in a competitive holiday cottage area, you must be prepared to invest in essential, good quality, comfortable furnishings like beds and chairs in order to satisfy your customer's expectations. On a positive note, the location was very peaceful with a good pub/restaurant nearby and a short drive to Dartmouth and Kingsbridge."

"Slapton is a typical Devon village with narrow roads and limited parking. Two excellent pubs; one the typical local and the Tower a bit more up-market gastro. Parking was very welcome though we were relieved we drove the mini rather then my bigger car.The cottage was really nice and cosy, though living room furniture was in need of an upgrade. The Wi Fi was very useful, especially as the mobile telephone signal varied from poor to non-existent. The kitchen was well appointed and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was on the same level as the next door garden, hence the blinds were essential. We did think the water temperature was too high and could be a hazard for children, but plenty of hot water for a nice soak at the end of the day. We enjoyed the fish and chips at Start Bay, the jazz night at the Church Inn, Stokenham, the Tower Inn, the costal walks, the nature reserve, the beach, the bus trip into Dartmouth and the views. We should have avoided the walk to Blackpool Sands as there are no dogs at all allowed, so Maisy Dog was disappointed. A lovely stay with gorgeous weather."

""We booked S34238, Kentisbeare through Helpful Holidays, having booked a different cottage in Devon through Helpful Holidays several years ago. The booking, which was made online, was efficiently handled and their website was easy to use. The owners of the property were away during our stay but we were given the name and phone numbers of their daughter/stepdaughter, who was our contact prior to our arrival and during our stay. She couldn't have been more helpful when we called them on several occasions. The location of S34238 was perfect, situated between Dartmoor and Exmoor. It was idyllic and had a large garden for our two small dogs to roam with good walks locally. The house was very comfortable and equipped with everything one would find in one's own home. On our arrival there were fresh flowers in the kitchen, milk in the fridge, a bottle of English wine and a box of florentines. A very nice welcome present! We would highly recommend anyone to stay here and hope to return.""

"Upon arrival we found the place to be unclean and we needed to spend several hours cleaning the kitchen before we felt the place was clean enough to use, the freezer was disgusting and we needed to defrost it again then clean it before we felt we were able to use it.We spent several pounds purchasing cleaners so we were able to clean all surfaces within the kitchen so we could ensure our safety before cooking any meals.Due to the condition upon arrival it really did make us wonder did anyone prepare the cottage before we arrived it was so unclean. We were not to happy that we were not able to secure the front door as it would not shut so could bolt the door at night time.In the main bedroom someone even left some clothes in the draw again the bedroom furniture was filthy and we had to hoover and polish the furniture. We took loads of photographs should you want to see them."

"We really enjoyed using the games room and swimming pool and never found anyone else using them. S27030 was large and comfortable and had everything we needed. The owners were very friendly and helpful and a problem with the fridge was resolved very quickly with another fridge brought in to replace it within a couple of hours. Although the location is ideal for access to all the surrounding coastal towns, the roads surrounding the farm are narrow and winding with passing places which are ok unless you come face to face with a lorry when you may have to reverse some distance, as we did. Part of the charm of being in the Devon countryside I suppose! The only change I would make would be to install some solar lights in the grounds as it is very dark at night."
