"A bit mixed, and definitely not up to the normal standard of what I'd expect from this sort of site. The lodge itself was a good size. Hot tub was situated on a small deck with picnic table which backed directly into trees.Lighting in the cabin though was appalling. Using two cold and stark lights to light the living area just made the place feel cold and depressing. Had to use the one strip light in the kitchen to light the rest of the living area. Combined with the fact that the wood structure of the cabin is a warm colour, and the cold light doesn't illuminate well, it ended up very dark. The hot tub was good, albeit there wasn't the usual mechanism to lift the cover off, so we ended up having to do a bit of manual lifting which was a bit precarious to get the cover on and off. The cover was also in dire need of replacement and it just looked a bit scabby, and was dropping bits of polystyrene into the hot tub itself. The bed in the master bedroom has a solid end to it, so if you're any taller than 6 foot, then don't expect to be able to fit that well. The thermostat on the wall had the dial about 8 degrees off from what it actually would be set to, so if you set the temperature to 16 degrees (this is in August!), then it would actually be trying to heat to 23 or 24 degrees so it ended up very hot inside. A large corner sofa is enough to sit 4 comfortably, but there isn't enough light around to be able to read a book by, so expect to be sitting at the kitchen table if you want to be seeing anything. There is a washer/drier available (tablets available from the shop on site), but the lodge information folder is missing the page of the instructions from it which say which programme is which, so we had to do a bit of googling for that. There was enough cutlery and crockery for people, although only two mismatched eggcups meant that if we wanted boiled eggs, we did have to stagger breakfasts rather than doing them all in one go!The fridge was missing all the shelves in the door, so we couldn't put any bottles in there which made it a bit awkward to fit things in."

"Merry cottage is in a good location for most peak district activities and is generally comfortable but when you leave your comfortable house for a holiday to relax, having the comfort to do so is important in my view. The property is average in our opinion. The downstairs loo has soot on the ceiling and needs painting but also pointed to concerns about the oil boiler. i would suggest this is redecorated and sorted out asap. The overall condition is ok but the property needs redecorating downstairs, and the sofa is uncomfortable. The garden is small but ok. It could be better arranged with a couple more chairs. The bedrooms are comfortable but the fire doors need doorstops. The bathroom needs renewing due to a recent bath leak and the shower hose leaks.I left a personal note for the owners on leaving because We felt strongly that some of these improvements could be made quite easily. We haven't received a reply personally but still hope to do so even though we have now made a public review. The property was acceptable as we booked late but we won't repeat out business unfortunately."

"We have stayed at quarry walk a couple of times in the past we love the location close to the forest so we can take our dog for long walks knowing he is always safe. The staff are always friendly helpful and easily accessible if needed. The cabins are always clean and warm exactly what you need after a long walk in the cold. The location of each cabin was well thought out giving each cabin lots of privacy. The main reason we stay at canins is so we have a nice break but are also able to bring our dog along with us he had a great time as did we. If I was to add any negative points I would only say the fences around the cabin had a small gap at the bottom so simba always had to stay on his lead and could see peoples feet walk past which had him on guard duty even though he would just lick them to death. Also the price of the cabin this time was a bit pricey mostly down to us booking late but it was also quite costly just for the two of us. Price and fencing aside we loved our break and will defiantly continue to be returning customers again and again."

"Me and my wife stayed here for a long weekend. We had a fantastic weekend, the hot tub was nice and warm, the staff were very helpful and considering there is lots of lodges around there is still a lot of privacy. Regarding the inside, the kitchen was brilliant, not too much and not too little. The lounge was just a bog standard sofa and TV which is enough for what we wanted. The bed was really comfortable, I haven't slept that well for a long time. The shower was slightly cold but I feel that could be due to hot water going to the hot tub which we understood. Only downfall was we stayed in lodge cabin number 50 and there appeared to be a few ants coming from between the 2 bedrooms, where there was a gap between the floor and wall. There wasn't millions just a handful, which we got rid of by sticking tissue in the hole. But except for that slight problems everything was absolutely wonderful. Would definitely go back."

"The lodge was clean, tidy and homely. However the layout of the living room and the placement of the dining table made the place feel very cramped. There was two of us staying in a lodge that slept 4 and was perfect for just us two, however would have been too small for 4 people. Hot tub was amazing and the area was beautiful. Staff was excellent and the kitchens had everything needed. However there was no iron and ironing board, you needed to borrow this from the main desk for a small deposit fee which was a pain if you was mid getting ready and needed to drive across to reception. There was many flies that swamed you the second you got in the hot tub too, which couldn’t be helped at all due to the foresty location, however would have been good if there was a can of fly spray as they did bother you quite a lot. All in all would be back in a heartbeat and couldn’t thank Quarry Walk for a lovely long relaxing weekend."
