What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stuart - Verified booking

My husband and I spent a wonderful Christmas at The Shooting Folly.

It was utterly perfect, they really have thought of everything. The quality of everything is top-notch, loved the bathrooms, kitchen is very well equipped (the freezer section of fridge even had ice-cubes ready for the gin and tonics - much appreciated!) They have a fantastic range of alcohol you can opt to buy, it is not overpriced, such a great idea. We didn't need to use it as had our own but for those that forget, there is something for everyone. Of course, we both enjoyed the hot tub, so good to get in after the long walk to and from the pub on Christmas Day (wonderful weather, stopped at the beautiful church on the way there and back) and the wood burning stove was so cosy. They don't charge for any of the wood, most places give you a free starter pack and then you pay after that, but not The Shooting Lodge. Neither of us can fault anything. It was all quite last minute, we felt we needed to get away this year, and The Shooting Lodge couldn't have been more perfect for us. As you drive up, it all looked magical, so cute and then you are met with the underfloor heating and loveliness. There were eggs and some lovely ginger biscuits, which I scoffed as my husband doesn't like ginger (bonus). The Christmas Tree lights were on, the place was warm, colourful lights around the hot tub - I love fairy lights so that's a winner from the get go. Loved the bedlinen, the styling, the chocolate on the towels - little touches are always appreciated. We both said we could easily live here permanently. I'll be honest and say that we would never have come across this place as up until July 2024, we had our beautiful dog but sadly, she died and that is the only reason we found this place as it doesn't accept dogs (understandably as it is a dairy farm). So thank you to the family, you've created something very special and we both felt it was a privilege to stay there and hopefully we'll manage to come back before we get another furry family member.

Truly exceptional property, we described it to friends today as ‘5 star plus, plus’.

Everything from the basics like loo rolls and dish clothes, little extras like chocs on the bed and fresh eggs & local biscuits was done with care, quality, and attention to detail. The Christmas tree and decorations was a particularly lovely welcome with the fire going and underfloor heating on when we arrived after a long drive through ice and snow made it even more welcoming and special. The finish on the property was excellent, bed was extremely comfy, lovely quality bed linen - and ooooh the hot tub was heavenly!! It is obvious the renovation of the Shooting Folly was a real labour of love. The kitchen is very well equipped and laid out in such a way that cooking was as intuitive as if we were at home. Our hosts were warm and welcoming, the dairy cows were charming neighbours. The rural location enabled us to really get away from it all and properly unwind, relax and recharge. It was lovely to have a tour of the farm too, thank you. The Shooting Folly is conveniently located for Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, we were also delighted to explore the local towns and villages. We are likely to return in the very near future and try the hot tub when there isn’t frost or snow- we can’t wait!

The listing of the property was not accurate to the room configuration.

I asked for a floor plan on a number of occasions and was told one was not available, I now think this was because had we seen a floor plan we would have cancelled the booking. The master in the main house is listed as having a ensuite with a water fall shower, the bathroom with a waterfall shower is accessed from the main kitchen and is also the only toilet on the ground floor so with multiple occupants is in constant use. So to access the bathroom the downstairs bedroom and the unexpected mezzanine bedroom have to walk through main rooms and past the front door, not at all the level of comfort you would expect for a luxury cottage. Their are two mezzanine bedrooms, one in the cottage and one in the main house so these rooms offer no privacy. We travelled to celebrate a big birthday and paid what we thought would get us a level of luxury, instead the bathrooms and mezzanines left us feeling like we were back in university halls, waiting with your wash bag in a kitchen for a bathroom to become free and unable to have a private time with your partner. I was sadden by this as we had previously been pleased with cottages we have booked through Sykes

Everything about Lee House was perfect!

It was spotlessly clean & all the bedding, towels, kitchen equipment, crockery & cutlery were as new. The view from the lovely garden was absolutely stunning. We spent a lot of time sitting & eating in the garden, the outdoor furniture was very comfortable. The house is very child friendly & our 6 grandchildren spent a lot of time in the hot tub, running around on the lawn & playing outdoor games such as table tennis & croquet that were provided. All the 10 adults joined in as well!! The owners were really friendly & welcoming. One of the many highlights for the children was watching the 3 'on site' donkeys being fed & being able to stroke them! We used a caterer, recommended by the owners, on Saturday night to celebrate one of our daughter's 40th birthday, ksimcockcatering.co.uk, she was excellent & the food she produced was delicious. I initially chose Lee House because of the location, lovely photos on the website & the spacious nature of the property. However, seeing & 'experiencing' the house in person was even better! We all had a wonderful & very relaxing weekend. Would recommend Lee House without reservation to anyone.

We really had a great time all family members from 9 month to 70 +.

Had the best time. The cottage was great , Clean and very well kept also well equipped for 19 people. The rooms were comfortable and had lots off space to sleep all my family including a baby. We found the hot tube in the garden great as sat in it watching over the hills watching the sunset was a nice feeling. We found the location ok as all my family came from all parts off Britain i.e. West Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire, Surry, Colchester so Lee House Cottage was in the middle. The owners Rosie and John were so helpful kind and would help with anything that wasn't right or needed fixing. Even John thought my 6 year old about how to look after the hot tube which he found fascinating. I would like to thanks Rosie and John and yourselves at Skyes cottages for making our week away so enjoyable and memorable. Thanks so much Kelly and family
