"My girlfriend and I needed a break from the London area and so booked a week at S3344 from a Friday to a Friday. We drove up on the Friday night and only arrived at about midnight to find a beautiful stone cottage wonderfully appointed. There were fresh scones with butter and home-made jam and a tea tray laid out for us. We forwent those and cracked open a bottle of wine, turned on the electric 'wood-burning' stove and allowed the peacefulness to wash over us. The following day, after a night spent in a very comfortable bed, we got to explore the cottage. It has everything that one could want: fitted kitchen with fridge (and small freezer shelf), dishwasher, quality matching crockery, glasses and flatware, microwave, gas cooker, washer/dryer combo. All of this in a lovely downstairs room. Upstairs is a huge bedroom with armoire with real hangers and a fantastic bathroom with deep tub and a huge separate shower unit with great pressure. We met the owner who said we were younger than most of her guests (we are mid 40s) and she invited us to wander the grounds which are manicured and beautiful. The cottage is next to the main house but you wouldn't know it and we felt completely alone and peaceful. We really couldn't be happier with our choice. We visited Stocksbridge once and found it a bit dismal but Penistone is about 3 miles in the other direction and is a delightful village with a lovely bistro (with great vegetarian options) and a couple of nice pubs. Ye Olde Mustard Pot is also recommended. There was nothing not to like about this place. Very highly recommended."

"The Barn is very near the Pub and nearer than i believed to Penistone where we used to live 30 years ago. We loved everything about this converted barn . I believe it was finished 9 years ago but it looks brand new. The layout is great and the underfloor heating made a cosy on a windy Autumn weekend. There were 6 adults and 2 children we all slept really well, the beds were super. The Kitchen was very well equipped and Karen one of the owners made it very easy for us to get in ,The provision of eggs and milk to go with tea and coffee was lovely, not always the same in every holiday rental. On Sat. lunch my brother and his wife joined us and we easily accomodated them for lunch . We appreciated having a downstairs loo to go with 2 bathrooms upstairs and night lights on the stairs were a bonus. Karen had provided 4 Pumpkin lanterns as this was Halloween weekend and met with much delight from the children. A good supply of games were available too. We managed to get 1 large car ,1 medium saloon and 1 tiny car into the parking space and used the bike racks . On the day my brother visited we even managed to get his large car onto the drive This would be a great place to stay for longer ,the children loved the garden area and looking at the cows in the next field, we enjoyed a walk along the old railway track and a visit to Penistone, Cubley Hall, and Kirklees light Railway as well as to Sheffield to visit my step mum, sadly we only had 3 nights and thought the price was very reasonable . Peak District is on your doorstep but not their prices."

"I only put MET expectations as I expect very high and that is what I got. The cottage was in a beautiful location and was clean, cosy and calming. The gardens were magnificent and we met "the gardener" who turned out to be the owner. We spent a long time with him wandering around discussing the plants and flowers. The chickens were amazing with feathered crowns. The home-made scones were a delight and a welcome sight on arrival. We will be booking again, in a different season to see how things change as there was so much to see. Stocksbridge was a few minutes away and is well supported with shops and businesses although the fuel there is pricey. We found cheaper on our travels. The moors have little signposting so as to preserve the scenery, so a really good OS map is essential. There are some really beautiful villages to be discovered (and tearooms). There is a walk from the cottage which takes you down to the reservoir and as the walk is circular you end up back home."

"S3344 is an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of everyday life. It is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very spacious for two people with a large living area/kitchen and a huge bedroom with en suite facilities. The cottage garden is very well-stocked and well-maintained but its main advantage is that it looks out over the owners’ huge and beautifully-presented grounds and beyond to views of the local moors; simply stunning. We also found the location to be convenient for long walks and visits to National Trust properties nearby. For those who enjoy cinema, the Penistone Paragon is a must; it’s like taking a trip back to the 1950s and is well worth a visit, if only for the interval where you queue up for ice-cream (just like in the olden days)! We strongly recommend this property and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Delia and David, the delightful owners whose discreet presence was reassuring but at no times intrusive."
