What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michael - Verified booking

Lillibet cottage is a lovely 4 storey cottage ideally placed for the shops and everything Keswick has to offer and is tastefully decorated, reflecting the area and the surrounding hills.

The stairs leading upstairs are very steep. The attic room has beautiful views of Skiddaw and the surrounding hills. However on the first night we had heavy rain. Not sure if it was an unfamiliar bed or the rain hitting the skylight and roof which caused a restless night. No problems on the following nights. The kitchen on the ground floor which is accessed via more stairs contained all we needed and like the rooms above clean and tidy. Sadly there were two things which let the property down. We requested a highchair and cot to be provided. The highchair supplied was in a filthy condition and covered in mould, certainly not fit for an 11 month old baby. Whenever we leave a rental property we endeavour to leave it in the same condition as we arrived. We cleaned where we could, however the vacuum cleaner supplied was in an even worse state than the highchair. No attempt had been made to clean it or empty the full dust bin. The rotating brush head even had something wrapped around it, so no attempt made to use it. The details of the property specified parking for two medium sized cars. We had a Tiguan and a Kadjar, only one would fit in the space provided. The parking area is at the rear of the property, its sloped and cobbled and needed some of the foliage cutting back in places. We had to find an alternate parking space on the surrounding roads, most of which were limited time disk controlled parking.

This was our third visit to Laal Field House.

We hope to get back again next year unless it is (as usual) fully booked. We love the house, its size, garden, location ... everything. A couple of comments / negatives from this year. The house does need a tidy up in a couple of places - Small patch of wallpaper hanging off the ceiling in the living room, mould spots on the ceiling of the main bathroom. The refuse bin. We were five adults, one toddler and one baby. The bin was almost entirely full when we arrived on Friday. It was emptied on Tuesday but we had almost entirely filled it with refuse and nappies by the time we left on the following Friday. Could really do with a larger refuse bin. Only one front door key this year - to be used by the two families at the house ! - Contacted Sykes, somewhat unhelpful and possibly patronising (in my opinion) response. And no high chair this year (we were provided with a high chair on previous visits) The house really does have every facility ... except a high chair.

      Fabulous well equipped property.

Spotlessly clean with comfy beds and our dog loved the huge secure garden. We had thought that the nearby Premier Inn would have impacted on privacy but there was no noise at all and it didn’t really overlook the garden. We did have a couple of small issues which were dealt with and the lovely owner even phoned and then visited to check everything was OK. A couple of suggestions which are in no way complaints but would have been appreciated would be a coffee machine and a garden parasol to provide some shade. There were cafetières but I am a total coffee snob and love my morning coffee. If there was a garden parasol stored away we didn’t see it, however, the property was so big we may have missed it! Lastly, a wifi repeater might improve the signal to the end bedroom. The biggest issue is that we want to book to come back and there looks to be no availability!!!

The property is for 8, however the smaller 1st floor bedroom does not have any clothes hanging space due to the double bed - the wardrobe is outside the room down 4 steps on the mid-landing?

As with all properties the accommodation is non-smoking. It should be noted that the rear outside area is covered over and shared with the adjoining property. During our stay the area was used 'by others' for outside smoking? - No smoking sign would clarify the legal status. The split kitchen/dining area is not an easy to use layout. The table although a good size, has restrictive chair seating access. The front hallway has a mobile entrance mat that rides up and is a trip hazard. It should be noted that the instructions in accommodation book say the bed linen is to be turned back and not stripped as per the email read on our return. That all done with, the TV was great, the water pressure was good, plenty of cutlery, cups, plates etc.. The location was good for the town shops, park and Latrigg Fell not far away.
