"I really enjoyed my stay at Church View. It's a comfortable, well-maintained house in a lovely quiet village. The excellent pub is 40m away, with good food, and the village coffee shop is surprisingly good. Threlkeld is perfect for hiking Blencathra, just behind, and there are buses to Keswick and Penrith train station, so it's a good choice if you don't have a car.Cottage was well-equipped, with all the kitchen equipment I needed (including a cafetiere), beds were comfortable and two showers were clean, though a bit small. Only downsides for me were the buses that pass just outside the window every hour or so (the two main bedrooms are upstairs and face the road; the fact that there isn't a garden (go to the pub next door); and the fact that the lounge carpet smelled of dog or something worse. In the end we just rolled up the carpet and moved it to a different room as it made the lounge smell. But all in all I liked the cosy feel of the cottage, the slate and wood details and the perfect location. I'd stay again. I wish it was cold enough to have used the fireplace!"

"We had a brilliant stay, nothing much to do in the near vicinity but walked to the nearest village of Threlkeld which was less than a mile away, it had two pubs, one serving food. A lovely location, you need a car to get supplies from nearby Keswick. All facilities on site to cook, which we did for a couple of nights. Very clean and well presented apartment, beautiful views and quiet, very newly refurbished although noticed some burn marks on the new lounge carpet and only two other guests had been before us. A couple of niggles, no enclosed garden to enjoy a sit out in private and have a bbq (had to share with the golf clubhouse which closed at 6pm so no bbq option). A few of the furniture/fittings were a little on the delicate side so not sure they will last long and needed to be careful using them. Definitely worth a visit if you like a quiet location, suited our needs perfectly and very accommodating owners who asked how we would like the beds making up, i.e for couples or singles and left milk in the fridge for that needed cup of tea :)"

"Blease Cottage is very happily situated in Threlkeld at the foot of Blencathra. It was fully equipped, including even trekking poles. Very comfortable and a great place to explore the Lakes. Local amenities are a bit lacking in terms of shops but there are 2 pubs in the village, and one further away in Scales. The nearest pub, the Horse and Farrier, does standard but good pub food. There is an excellent coffee shop in the village hall at the bottom of the road with great views of Clough Head. If you don't drive (we don't) there is an hourly bus service to Keswick which goes on to Workington via Cockermouth. We got a weekly explorer for £29 which is good value as local buses are pricey (by London standards). The local disused railway line walk to Keswick is now totally closed until December 2020 for maintenance, which is a shame but plenty of local walks. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. We will return"

"We returned to Merle Bank almost exactly 2 years after our 1st stay there. Again the property did not disappoint. It is a beautiful house with all we needed for a self-catering holiday. The kitchen has everything we needed to make our meals from scratch. The beds are comfy although please be aware the stairs to the uppermost double bedroom are quite steep. It is a 5-10 minute drive into Keswick. There are 2 local pubs and the Horse and Farrier serve excellent meals but advised to book. It is a great base for walking holidays. A car can be brought up to the rear of the property for loading/unloading but must then be moved either to a small car park nisext to the property at weekends or if it is a week night then there is car parking at the top of the village a short walk away. We have very happy memories staying at Merle Bank"

"My sister and I rented Merle Bank for a weekend away. It was a lovely welcoming house, we loved the decor and the furnishings - it was all very comfy and cosy for what was a wet and windy weekend of weather outside. The views from the cottage were amazing and dramatic given the weather. The location was just right for us - easy access to the hills from the cottage and a good bus route back from Keswick to return from a long walk. Pub (Horse and Farrier) was good for a meal out and a only short stroll from the cottage. Have put 9 for facilities as only one oven glove was provided which together with the oven door closing itself when opened proved to be an issue when getting things out of the oven - otherwise it would have been a perfect 10 all round. We would heartily recommend this cottage."
