"Stayed in Threlkheld before so I knew what to expect. There are 2 pubs. The horse and farrier do excellent food and you can take your dogs in. But it’s very popular so you need to call in advance. The accommodation is very basic, but it has everything you need for your stay. There was even complimentary tea, coffee and milk. Along with washing up liquid etc... the owners kindly let us take a second dog but you need to enquire before you book. Our dogs are fairly small so would be different if you had large dogs. The building itself is very old and the floors and walls are uneven. This added to the overall experience and even though on the main through road it was very quiet. My only niggle was that the windows are old and not very draft proof. This was fairly uncomfortable sitting in the living room. We counter acted this by having the log fire on. There are fantastic views of Blencathra from the landing window and some good walks from Threlkeld. Overall, I’d be happy to return here as it is a great base to explore the lakes - but ideally, you do need a car as there are no shops. Keswick being the closest approximately 4 miles away."

"We had a lovely time, the weather was good, a tad colder than we have been enjoying down on the south coast, but we expect that! The barn itself was cosy, especially when we had the wood burner alight on a couple of colder days. Good size bedroom, with an amazing array of cupboard/drawer/wardrobe space, same goes with the bathroom.Thank you for the complimentary basket of goodies and the basket wood, only got to use half of both! We may well return someday.Although the kitchen area is fairly well equipped, the food prep and carving knives could do with sharpening - as found in the drawer, didn't notice the ones in the block until packing up to leave!Glad we packed a couple of our own that we used, from experience of any self catering we have never found knives supplied sharp or indeed a decent sharpener! It was really good to have a decent size fridge, also a separate freezer."

"Place was ok, but it is a little 'tired'. For what you pay, you'd expect that some of it would be going back in to make the place top notch. Kitchen needs replacing, bathroom needs replacing. Would have been nice to have things like some hand soap there when you arrive, kitchen roll, perhaps even some tea and coffee, some basics. There were limited amounts of crockery, ok for 5 people which is what the cottage sleeps, but not enough if you have friends locally who you might want to have around. It's expensive for what you get. Parking could be a little bit of a pain at times, there is no parking at the property so you were reliant on getting a space on the road. Nice village though and the café at the village hall is well worth a visit."

"Lovely very rural cottage we had 10 staying, 3 generations. Walks from the cottage aren’t ideal with children, so we drove out to most places. Kitchen and lounge space was ideal for a large party, kitchen could do with a double oven as cooking Christmas for 10 was a challenge . Family room was a good size but the two doubles/twin were quite small and limited storage in the double room (no wardrobe) The views are lovely especially early morning from the garden room. Bathrooms were furnished very well, our only problem was lack of hot water (have to turn pressure right down to keep it warm and space out when everyone was showering or bathing the children)"

"Very convenient for Keswick, Borrowdale and Ullswater. We were pleased it is so well insulated that you can't hear the A66. Very warm with plenty of hot water and comfy beds. Parking is a bit tricky as there is not always room for a 3 point turn depending on neighbour's cars. View rather compromised by neighbour's eccentric clutter! The children loved the chickens and the den attic area. Could have done with more than one bin bag and more dishwasher tablets. One bedside lamp in main bedroom appeared to be broken and there were no power cables for the dvd player or reclinable sofas. Fantastic pub in Scales. Overall a good place to stay."
