"'Badgers Barn’ is advertised as part of the ‘Luxury Collection’, is allegedly pet friendly, and is described as ‘renovated to a high standard’ and ‘stunning’. Unfortunately it is far from any of these things. I am not going into detail about the many issues I reported, as cottages4you are aware of them, and I hope they will be rectified before booking a stay at this cottage causes disappointment to more holiday-makers.The photographs used to show the lounge and kitchen give the impression that the property is light, bright and airy. It is actually dark, dingy, dirty and smelly with barely any light coming in through the misted double glazed windows. It is definitely not of the high quality we expect from cottages4you for a 4 star ‘Luxury Collection’ property at this price. On arrival at the property, we followed the instructions as given by the owner and drove down what can only be described as a very dangerous and pothole-filled rocky track that was barely the width of the car, to be told on arrival there was an easier route to the cottage across a field. Upon entering the property we were immediately struck by the very over-powering smell of air-fresheners, which was quite clearly being used to mask some other unpleasant odours and general lack of cleanliness. It became very clear, very quickly that no proper cleaning had been done, nor had the property been maintained to any reasonable standard for a very long time, let alone ‘luxury’. The description of the property and the accompanying photographs are a clear misrepresentation of its actual state. On a positive note, the bedding was clean so we decided to stay a few hours till first light, before abandoning our holiday as we couldn't possibly stay there any longer. In addition to the lack of cleaning, maintenance and poor quality and/or broken fittings and furniture, it is also notable that this property is completely unsuitable for dogs as there is no enclosed garden area or outside light.I have stayed at several cottages4you properties previously and consider that this one falls way short of what any reasonable person would expect from a ‘luxury, stunning, pet friendly, 4 star coastal cottage which has been renovated to a high standard’. The 'luxury collection' is described as ‘handpicked to ensure only the most elegantly furnished, stunningly situated properties are included’, where ‘you are experiencing only the most unique and spectacular of our featured 4 star and 5 star properties, where the interiors have been carefully co-ordinated, only the finest furnishings are offered and every effort has been made to make sure you have an unforgettable getaway’........... The few hours we spent in that poorly furnished, filthy, 2 star at best, hovel are completely unforgettable to this day. What is even more shocking is that all the properties for which cottages4you act as agents, are subject to a yearly inspection by a Regional Manager to check that standards are being maintained, and in this case worthy of being part of the 'luxury collection'. This property has clearly slipped through the net! On a positive note, upon complaining to cottages4you, we received a full refund, although no apology or compensation for the wasted 700 mile round trip!"

"This is the worst stay i have ever had with my family. Whilst the week was great in terms of Cornwall we had great weather and there is plenty of places to stay! Be very wary of these owners! We stayed for our week and had a pleasant stay . You do get what you pay for so don't expect the Ritz. Take your own bedlinen and towels because you don't get enough. There is a washing machine so in good weather you can dry on the line. There were few other niggles but didn't effect my stay. Whilst we were away we had an incident with a frying pan, where we needed to throw it away, we accepted we forgot to tell the owners as it happened earlier in the week and they work so they aren't always avaliable . My husband only saw the owner briefly whilst he was packing the car and it has just slipped his mind since we were juggling children and packing and was a mistake on our part . We received an email less than 24 hours of leaving accusing us of damaging a kitchen side, breaking glasses ,and leaving the cottage in such a state it required an extra 5 hours cleaning time , suggesting 11 hours in total . This is not the case we left the cottage tidy and even hovered before we left ( sand is inevitable ) we emptied all the bins and gave it a very quick dust around since I was on holiday I was not going to give it a deep clean as the owner would clearly like . The owner is adamant we have done the damage to the kitchen side and we haven't. We did take out insurance with holiday company and would absolutely have used it if we had done anything! This is clearly an oversight on their part from a previous stay. They sent us a bill for well over 400.00 in which will not be paying. I have requested a week a go a receipt for the pan as we accept this was our fault and we had always intended on replacing it. We're yet to receive this. The owners have highlighted the other niggles and have said they will be resolved. Overall what was a pleasant stay has been absolutely ruined. We would have not returned before these accusations and we certainly won't now. If you do decide to book. Take pictures of before and after your stay."

"We found Skylarks to be a very clean and comfortable barn conversion, renovated to a high specification with all modern facilities and well located for exploring Western Cornwall. The owners, Bob and Jenny, could not have been more welcoming and were available close-by, if required. The welcome pack provided was most appreciated. We found the beds very comfortable and the washing/drying facilities excellent. The location was ideal for walking the coastal paths and visiting the many heritage sites, beaches and attractions around Penwith and beyond. In particular, the coastal path can be explored in either direction (Pendeen or Zennor) directly from the cottage, via a 1/4 mile link path. Road access is good to Pendeen, St. Ives or Penzance for shops/pubs etc if required, although the location itself was very quiet and peaceful. We would thoroughly recommend Skylarks for families, couples or individuals who enjoy peace and quiet, fresh air, sea views, magnificent coastal scenery, tranquil beach coves and seeing the local wildlife. "We had a great stay at Badgers Barn. The quiet location in the middle of fields just a short walk from the coast in a truly atmospheric beautiful part of the British coast is remarkable. The barn is compact but comfortable and very well fitted out with everything you could need in as new condition. Very clean and well presented. Only suggestion would be to renew the twin beds with a super king zipped option so this can provide both a large bed for a couple or two twins when needed. A walk away is the local Geever mine, an essential visit with a great cafe with yummy breakfast choices. There are plenty of places to visit to fill a week whatever the weather. St Ives is a must visit too. Our little dog had a great holiday too as the barn is practical with hard floor downstairs in keeping with its character and there is an outdoor area accessed from a back door to the living area. It's not dog proof fenced though. Recemmended."

"We had a brilliant stay at Skylarks and would highly recommend the property to anybody. It is located in a quiet yet convenient location to explore the little villages, towns, and amazing coastline around. The property itself was incredibly clean and comfortable. Bob and Jenny did a wonderful job at ensuring we felt welcome from the moment we arrived including a really nice welcome pack of wine, strawberries, Cornish cream and other essentials. Almost every room had a sea view which was an unexpected bonus. The bed was really comfortable. Every detail had been taken care to ensure you had everything you needed and more for a really nice stay. Bit of a hidden gem this one for exploring Cornwall from a base with style and comfort. June 2011. "
