"This cottage is great as far as visiting the 7 bays in the area- great beaches. It does need updating, décor, furnishings and bathroom need attention. Downstairs loo door does not close and oven in kitchen badly needs a good clean - cannot use unless kitchen window is open and extractor turned on to full as it sets off smoke alarm. Kitchen window needs new handle & is difficult to open. Bathroom door does not lock (could be a problem if sharing with friends). No outdoor space at back - teeny bit of patio. Front garden has no privacy and doesn't look cared for. Other people have noted the oven problem, loo & bathroom doors in their comments but they have not been fixed. Lack of wardrobe space, twin room is tiny (no wardrobe at all). We do not think this cottage deserves it's 4 star rating. Does not come up to standard of other 4stars we've stayed in in Cornwall. We came to the conclusion it gets it's 4star rating for location only."

"Seriously needs updating. Items not working included door keypad keys sticking, 4 spotlights on ground floor, all cooker and front and rear external lights, torch. Towel rail in bathroom broken, waste pipe from loo leaking - over time this has stained the floor. Radiator in bathroom rusted and hoover filter needs cleaning. Carpets and windows filthy and obviously not cleaned for months. Cover for tv remote is also broken. We taped it up to avoid the batteries coming out - if a child or dog swallowed them it would be very serious. Should offer broadband these days. Drains at the rear are blocked so property could flood very easily. Would never have booked it if I had known about the condition. It feels unfair not to make potential guests aware of the conditions. Padstow itself was lovely."

"We stayed at Samphire House for 6 nights. Check in was easy, biscuits and tea waiting for us. It was lovely, comfy and homely. We had everything we needed including Tupperware for picnics and beach towels. Lovely patio to sit out and a barbecue . Perfect location 5 minutes walk in to town centre. The parking space is a real asset. We received a lovely card in the post wishing us a happy holiday which was a lovely touch from the Penny & Tony. Lots of eating places we loved Paul Ainsworth at No6, The Mariner on Rock, Rojanos In The Square and Rick Steins St.Petroc. Then you can cycle it all off on the Camel Trail. We hired our bikes from Trail Bike Hire. We would highly recommend staying at Samphire House. It has everything you need "

"We had stayed here previously and loved it- we booked this again because it had the added bonus of WiFi this time, and my partner needed this for his work, however on 4th day of holiday WiFi was suspended due to it not being paid, we phoned owners and left a message but they didn’t respond, we contacted them again 24 hours later and still they didn’t respond. We then contacted the letting agency, who managed to sort this and WiFi was re-connected on the 5th day of our holiday. I thought it was bad on the owners part not to respond, as it could have been a more serious matter. Apart from that we enjoyed our holiday, and were grateful to the letting agency for their help"

"One of our party has mobility difficulties and it wasn't indicate that this property wasn't suitable for people with disabilities. She can manage stairs but these stairs were steep and the rope handrail was slack, thereby not giving sufficient support. We were also disappointed at not being able to make phone calls. In an area with no mobile phone coverage, a payphone would be useful. (The phone in the village phone box didn't work.) Some of the information in the visitors' book was out of date (in particular, taxi information - we rang the recommended taxi firm several times and didn't once get an answer)."
