    Consiton Holiday Cottages

Idyllically situated on the shores of Coniston Water, the village of Coniston gives happy holiday-makers Lakeland scenery in spades. Similar to Windermere, Cumbria's other famous lake, Coniston is surrounded by tall fells and woodland. Hike up the Old Man of Coniston for stunning views of the surrounding area, or, for a more unusual experience, take a cruise on the National Trust's steam yacht gondola. This unique vessel is a real taste of Victorian decadence.

We have thousands of lakeland cottages in Coniston, each one in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Our holiday homes vary from single storey barn conversions with log-burning fires, to large family-friendly accommodation for four guests or more. Of course, reclining in a private hot tub is a luxurious holiday treat, and our range of cottages with accompanying whirlpools will see you popping the bubbly under the stars in no time.

From dog-friendly pads with secluded gardens to romantic lodges for two, each of our cottages has a best price guarantee. So instead of spending time shopping around, you can plan your ideal holiday. Of course, with the erratic weather found on the west coast of England and Wales, you'll want a range of rainy day activities; writers John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter both had houses in the area, which are the perfect poor weather plan. Or visit the village of Hawkshead for a gorgeous day out in this 16th-century village.

Poets have been writing about Cumbria for hundreds of years, and with good reason. With our pick of the hotspots, you'll soon be wandering lonely as a cloud through the Lake District's gorgeous scenery.

We had a great time here!

We planned to use the hot tub, but then didn't as we were too busy! There is plenty of space near the cottage for dog walking. If I'd had more time I would have worked out a route from the cottage to Coniston and back again. The log burner is great and heats the cottage nicely (our dog loved it). There is plenty of parking space too. We struggled with the electric cooker at the cottage, but that was mostly because we've only ever used gas and didn't manage the heat properly. I think a few other people have mentioned the lack of Internet connectivity as a problem. It mostly makes planning your days out a bit harder as you need either an abundance of written material or you need to plan in advance. More local information in the cottage would be great. There do appear to be phone sockets in the cottage, so maybe the lack of connectivity is either a choice or the cottage is too far from the local exchange for ADSL. My recommendation to others is to go down to one of the local pubs and do your planning there. It's not as good as the comfort as the cottage, but it's okay. Overall, a great short break!

Regarding our stay at Timley Knott, there are a few issues we wanted to make the owners aware of.

Of course, these issues may only have occurred very recently. The wooden veranda at the back of the house had partially rotted away and the uprights and fence were leaning badly into the neighbour's garden below, making this area very unsafe as it is quite a steep drop. This also left a large hole in the fence so we had to keep our dog away from this area. There was another hole in the fence on the seating area above this. The steamer chair was broken on the balcony. We arrived at the house at 3.40pm and parked across the road as the cleaner was still there. At 4pm I went across to the house but we had to wait another 10 minutes before the cleaner finished. I am not blaming the cleaner for this as she probably had a very busy day, but feel that more cleaners should be employed so these delays do not happen, as 4pm is already quite late in the day to have to wait to check in. Very surprised that there was no "welcome" pack at all in the house - not even a pint of milk! Have stayed at many cottages over the years and can only remember on one occasion before not having been left anything.

We had a brilliant week in the property - despite the weather!

The areas I’ve marked down were for the following reasons: Cleanliness - Several items of crockery and glassware were not clean when I took them out of the cupboard. There was dried on food and residue on them. The hairdryer filter was choked with dust causing the hairdryer to cut out as it overheated. I cleaned this out but would suggest regular inspection as this could be a fire hazard too. Comfort - The double bed mattress was very soft and there was roll together so I chose to sleep in one of the single beds which was far more comfortable. Not sure why the en-suite bedroom isn’t the master - plenty of room for a king size bed in there. Of course, as the owners use this home themselves, it may be that the current set up suits them. This is just our observation of what would take the property comfort rating up to perfect for us. Otherwise an exceptional property that we’d happily visit again! Thank you.

We had an extremely relaxing, quiet 4 night stay here in early Sept.

Mum dad and me with the labrador. We loved the walks straight from the cottage and the hot tub was amazing. What a perfect location for it - views of the hills all around. You cant predict the weather but the cottage was great. I would have liked updated washing machine and dishwasher as they were a little tired and no instructions so you had to guess what programme to put them on. Sky TV was great and the new addition of wifi was unexpected but much needed as you can then sit at home and plan your day. We did Blencathra and the local Coniston water lake walk. We also went to Stavelely and visited the artisan bakery, amazing Wheelbase bike shop and Hawkshead brewery. We tried the local pub the Wilsons Arms and had fish and chips outside in the garden with the dog. Would have stayed much longer had it not been for my work. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

      Cottage is modern and clean.

Two double bedrooms downstairs and ensuite bathrooms with bath/showers. Hot tub overlooking the hills is the key feature! Easy access to walks around the area. Dog friendly, though there are a lot of sheep around so keep on the lead. Sky TV for evenings and relaxing, if you need it. Wood burner for a nice fire if it gets cold, but central heating as well. Beware the 2 mile single track road up to the cottage, tricky if you have a modern big-ish car, with few passing points if you encounter someone coming the other way. Wifi is available but patchy & mobile signal varies based on network. Overall, excellent. Great for a get-away-from-it-all break. Sunset in hot tub overlooking the hills is an experience not to be missed.
