About this property

A stylish home with fantastic river views

This early 18th-century Grade II-listed villa in the delightful village of Shaldon is just 0.5 miles from one of the village’s main streets – stop off for a coffee and a bite at the bakery when head down to try a spot of crabbing. Upon your return, stoke the open fire and enjoy the views out of the bay window.

The accommodation is beautiful. The living room has French doors that open out onto the garden with river views. Furnished with pretty blue and cream sofas and armchairs offering plenty of relaxing space for eight people, the living is perfect for leisurely chats or watching TV. A striking focal point of this stylish room is the open fireplace with a large mantel mirror over it. The contemporary kitchen has all the usual appliances plus a dining table and chairs for eight. Just across the hall from the kitchen is the downstairs cloakroom with a washing machine. Upstairs, the four bedrooms are beautifully furnished with coordinating bedding in a neutral palette. Outside the property has a lovely lawned garden with views over the river and across to Teignmouth. Planted with pretty shrubs and flowers, a patio area with a table with chairs is perfect for a little alfresco dining in the Devon sunshine.

Shaldon is very well connected, with road links, proximity to Exeter Airport and easy access to the mainline train stations in Teignmouth and Newton Abbot. Guests are within 7.5 miles of the lively attractions of Torquay and the surrounding area has many popular National Trust properties, beaches and coastal tourist attractions. Nearby Dartmoor (accessed within 11 miles) also offers a dynamic day out for walking, mountain biking, wild swimming and extreme sports. A lovely comfortable home with plenty of space for 8 adults. The garden is a delight overlooking the estuary and it’s a short walk into the town and beaches. The house itself has all the comforts and thoughtful touches you need for a relaxing holiday break, with the kitchen and dining table well provided for- perfect!

Mention should be made that the staircases have very deep steps and are unusually steep which may not be manageable for an elderly person. Since all bedrooms are up at least one flight of stairs, this would be an issue for some guests.

Salty House is spacious, tasteful and comfortable. A real home from home. The well equipped kitchen was particularly appreciated as we dined in most evenings. The master bedroom was very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were well appointed. Views from the house, over the estuary were lovely, night and day. It was a great house to come back to after a day out. We would definitely recommend Salty House.
