What our customers say about their holidays

    • A previous customer - Verified booking

Our stay at Chestnuts was superb. From the time we arrived in the village until the time we left it was great. We arrived early and stopped at the local, The Manor Inn. The service was great, locals very friendly and later in the week we found out how good the food was, quiz night is a giggle with the locals, oh and the steak night is excellent value at £25 for two meals including a bottle of wine. We left the pub and then followed the instruction to the cottage, excellent instructions. As soon as we parked up and went through the back gate it felt like home. We found the key safe (this I feel could be better located. Very low down and in the dark was a nightmare. Inside was lovely and clean and everything was as described in the brochure, superb size double beds. Three toilets all very clean. Kitchen had every thing you could need for the holiday. Nice comfy living room with freeview TV, DVD player and Wi-Fi was perfect. The conservatory was a lovely area to just sit and chill after a day out and was very warm in the mornings. We chose to sleep in the bedroom with the en suit and I had some of the best sleeps I have had for a long time. The outside space was lovely and not really got much to complain about but if I was to be picky I would have liked the grass to have been cut before we arrived not during our stay. Another small point lighting by the back gate never worked. How ever these minor faults were made up by the wild life in the back garden. We could sit out the back by the patio table having a morning coffee and the biggest pigeons you could wish to see would come and sit right beside you. We had two resident Moorhens in the back garden, a huge cock pheasant and the normal day to day birds we all see, it was lovely. My dog just wondered about and the pigeons did the same no fear from the birds. Garden is 100% safe for children and dogs. Three dogs beds are available for pets to use, various sizes. The accommodation is ideally situated as it is just a 8 minute drive from Brixham Town centre, 4 minutes walk from the village shop, 6 minutes from the local pub and 15 minutes from local supermarkets. Did we have a good holiday? you bet we did will we go back? silly question. You can count on it. Great service all round Many thanks Brinley and Christine Meredith South Wales

Our 3 generation family of 6 had a comfortable week at The Chestnuts. It's a spacious bungalow with thee bathrooms, so there was never any congestion in the morning. The kitchen is well equipped and the lovely sunny garden is enclosed to keep young children safe. It's so peaceful and situated in a lovely village with a pub and a local shop, a few miles from Broadsands beach. In fact if you are happy to drive 10 mins then it's close to everywhere. It's also a short walk to the Agatha Christie house and close to the steam train railway so you get to hear the toot toot of the steam train during the day (pleasant not annoying). The house definitely smells heavily of dog (maybe previous occupants had one) which isn't an issue for everyone, halfway through the week I either stopped noticing it or the smell went! If you have young children it may be useful to take a blackout blind for their sunny bedroom, if it helps to keep them asleep! You may want to take plastic plates/cups etc. for your young children as the house only has really nice crockery! We all agreed that we'd happily stay at The Chestnuts again as it's a lovely house in a great location.

From the moment we arrived at Chestnuts,we felt at home.Although just two plus dog, there is ample room for a family of six to stay at this delightfully private barn conversion. We often stay at self-catering cottages and this has everything you could wish for.The lovely garden is very safe for dogs, having a super patio on which to enjoy an al fresco meal or relax with a book! There are picturesque walks from the doorstep and Greenway is very closeby for a day out.In fact we left the car in its parking place for the majority of our eight days. The village has a handy post office shop for any groceries. We were lucky with having great weather and on the only rainy day we visited Coleton Fishacre,a must for any home/garden fan!Chestnuts is very tranquil(apart from the pheasant calling now and again!)private,an extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming home from home.We will certainly return and can highly recommend it to dog lovers and families alike.Photos are super but dont really show Chestnuts to its full potential.

Wisteria cottage was the perfect cottage.

Stepping through the door we were greeted by a lovely slice of homemade cake, a bunch of fresh flowers, a packet of biscuits, a box of chocolates, a pint of fresh milk in the fridge and not to forget a jar of treats for our 4 legged family member. The cottage was warm and cosy and equipped with everything you could ever need and more. Darton and Maxine were the perfect hosts. Maxine looked after the cottage to a very high standard and served us in the restaurant she was always very pleasant to talk to and polite. Darton was the Chef who cooked the perfect Sunday Roast, which we ate in the restaurant and a lovely 3 course evening meal which he kindly delivered to the cottage as the restaurant was closed for evening meals at this time of the year (March). The cottage location was a perfect base for exploring the area. We would definitely recommend this Cottage to anyone and we will definitely be back for another stay.
